@@kingjames6948 A) They're 18(the age of "I'm going to stay single" *3 weeks later* in a relationship) in a world with 2 global invading forces imminently planning attacks(Viltrum & Sequids) it's a move fast way of life. Add that Amber story isn't about the romance. The lack of it is the point. They start dating he goes to mars for 2 weeks. For a few weeks he's late then he is in the hospital for a month. BattleBeast Then a few months of mark being late and they break up. Then he almost dies, I don't have a timetable mark was in hospital post Omni man but fair to assume as long as Battle Beast, and they rush back in while Mark is in shock. They have the summer being fine until Mark leaves for 2 months, He gets back immediately goes back to mars, assuming roughly the same timetable as first trip 1-2 weeks since they were intercepting a warship. Meanwhile for essentially the first semester of college Amber's grandfather died Mark didn't make it to the funeral and Amber had 1 million questions as why the roughly year long boyfriend isn't coming for support. And every new friend in college has to believe amber totally has a freshman boyfriend that missed the first semester. They aren't speeding past anything, because they would have to be able to be around to miss it. Since Mark has been absent for roughly 5 months of their ~year long dating and they were on the rocks for a significant portion of the time he was around. Nolan and Debbie worked because Nolan had a mission stating for him to remain on Earth unless absolutely necessary and Nolan(pre Ep8) would disregard lives that needed saving like the Thraxans while Mark wouldnt.

@@dinodare1605 that's fair, I think one of the brilliant elements of the story is Amber is absolutely likeable, and on paper Mark and Amber is a solid relationship, but Invincible takes superhero tropes and puts in a realistic situation similar to how the fights are bloody and heroes die, relationships take work. Sometimes relationships don't work and it isn't anybody's fault.

In the original comics, she was a generic blonde white girl who basically agreed with everything Mark said, and after SPOILER her and Mark break up, she's only seen a handful of times again before being forgotten about

The reason that Nolan wrote those books because its his job in Earth. His cover is sci-fi author and he is well known and good selling author in Earth. He wrote his own mission stories as scifi books.

The main plot is Mark Grayson's development as a character. His relationship with Amber brings nothing new to the table besides some cute moments and the similar drama from Season 1 of Mark being absent for hero duties. As the story progresses, Mark embraces the hero life more and more, which means growing distant from Amber, who symbolizes his other aspect of life as a teenager - being in college, having parties, spending time with his girlfriend, etc. A life that he probably can't have anymore... They do love each other, but now Mark doesn't have a choice but to fully embrace the hero life, meaning he'll probably quit college and part ways with Amber.

Viltrumites can grow beards. We've seen Nolan with a beard twice. And it was not meant to be a gag when he ripped the beard off. It is just so well known that viltrumites only grow mustaches that it becomes obvious when you see a buff guy with a mustache. Imagine seeing a dude with a hitler mustache. You know right away what's going on there. Same thing here.

(Spoiler Maybe Kinda a dumb one with no plot relevance tho). I THINK tearing off the beard in one swipe is also a viltrumite custom. That is not even well explained in the comics. Cause they demanded a bearded viltrumite character prove he’s a viltrumite by doing the ~alien phrase here~ and suggested it had to do with pulling off your beard in one swipe. Cause he refused to do that & said he had other proof. Wack stuff.

ok guys so the mustache thing was kind of a gag between the two creators of the comics. they were childhood friends and they wanted Viltrumites to look like 80s dads and both their dads had mustaches so that's what they did. Also the ripping off the beard was a Viltrumite ritual called Tulock Pull. Extremely painful and difficult apparently.

It's nice to see that I'm not alone in liking Mark and Amber together/their relationship. I know a lot of people don't dig it, but I appreciate the show, displaying how hard it is to maintain a relationship when one of the people involved has highly demanding job like a superhero, despite how much they love and care for each other. Viltrumite has distinctively always have mustache (for the man) it's like a cultural thing. The only viltrumite that doesn't have one is Mark which establish his distance toward the empire and the whole culture. But you are right it is goofy because it's not explicitly stated in the animation compared to the comics.
