We are too soft, but not in the way I suspect you’re implying. No one can guarantee your safety better than yourself. Unless the government have taken that responsibility away from you. In this context that would be the 1937 alteration to firearm legislation which took the single greatest equaliser away from you and me, but left criminals with a variety of deadly weapons uncontested. British law always supports the criminal with soft sentences whilst the victim always suffers. If you commit an adult crime such as murder etc then you face an adult sentence even if this means a death sentence as in some countries that are UN members.
