Excellent, thanks for this. My Infamy, Infamy Gauls will be based on Asterix, so good to hear the name check.

This is the first step into ancients for me and I’m excited by the ability to use other units in my force or even the interchangeability as you indicated between the Brits and Gauls. I’m starting with Caesarean Romans and will likely add some Iberians and German allies that I can then expand into full forces. Once I have Roman enemies I can then build an Imperial Roman Army to fight them too.

Yes, this video is most Gauling. Thanks for showing your Gaul-loots, especially the Gaulstone slingers.

Well, that was the video I needed to confirm my plan. Late republic Romans and dismounted Gauls to get me started. Once that is mostly good to go, some chariots and a few different units to make my Gauls into Brittons. Lots of options then. The mobile reconstitution units the light cavalry provide the heavy cavalry is an interesting aspect. May consider that further down the road, but as an old mech infantry guy, the chariot "APCs" of the Brits are still what have me sold.

Grüß Gott! Good video Richard. Really like the presentation of the Armies. The Germanic allies are a nice Addition, as I can swiftly build a gallic Force, using my being in Progress germans. Good Plan to talk about miniatures und compare them. I would also like a Video about your Gaming table and infamy infamy terrain. Some Kind of overview, what you have built so far. Cheers from Bavaria, Dominic

Grüß Gott! to you too Dominic. One of the inspirations for the rules were a number of trips to the Mainz area and the Limes along the Main and in the area of the German Donau. A fabulous insight for me. I live in a former Roman city (Verulamium) that was sacked by Boudicca, but the German frontier was much more imposing and had the feel of real frontier between two cultures. That really made me aware that vanilla Barbarians against vanilla Romans was a total misrepresentation.

Great to see that the different geographical are shown by the use of German/British/Spanish allies.

Thanks Patrick. I really dislike the concept of national armies in this period in history, It was remarkably fluid and, as I think I said elsewhere, Caesar recruiting Gallic noble allies to serve in his cavalry also gave him hostages to ensure that their tribes behaved themselves. From a gaming perspective, it just makes it so much fun. In some ways, it almost feels like a fantasy army, with the different "races".

Romans were fighting Gallic like forces at least until Augustus' campaigns in the Alps and Balkans which is also the earliest record of segmentata. Groups like the Bastarnae were possibly Gaul-like too and were fighting the Romans right to the end of the Empire where they became part of the Goths.

Very interesting series of videos. I'm not yet finished watching your CoC series yet, but the temptation to get back into ancients is very strong! Looking forward to seeing more.

Yes, albeit with a bit of trimming. It looked a bit too "Lord of the Rings" originally, so I just trimmed off some of the more flamboyant bits. I don't mind camp, but this was full on 'John Inman in Panto'.

With including early imperial my mind immediately goes to Dacian and the revolt in Roman Judea rather than Germans. Is this initial release more geared to like Caesar and the reign of Julio-Claudia emperors and not on Flavians or the beginning of the Antonine emperors?

Interesting that the Gauls are a mix of their own way of wielding swords and chain and have Germanic, Spanish, and British allies. I thought each army was going to be across-the-board stubbornly "unique". But it turns out that you can some "overlap" with your miniatures. This "overlap" looks to be more affordable to field different armies in Infamy, Infamy! moreso than WW2 or Napoleonic eras. You can use Crusader miniatures any 20 infantry deal (I'm not a schill, lol) to fill in the gaps. From a historical, and practical, point of view it makes sense that if such-and-such mercenaries are available you could field it - and not have to stick to your respective tribe and train up new troops. As a Gaulic leader you may find yourself without time or money for training when Rome is knocking on your front door. 😁

Trevor Hoffman Caesar ‘recruited’ lots of noble Gallic cavalry even when fighting other Gauls. It has the secondary bonus that these nobles effectively became hostages to ensure that their tribe didn’t misbehave.

As some one who tends to buy a small force for both sides of games, the Gaul, Britton, Caesarian combo of models seems like a pretty great way to build lots of very differing armies with only a few quick swap outs/swaping of sides.

Rich, I've got to ask about the Deployment/Ambush base size? Although not mentioned in this video, you've mentioned the base size used as 50mm and 60mm in a few videos, so for my clarity which is it? Thank you, I can't wait for the rules, working on my first Roman figures now.
@toofatlardies
@toofatlardies 4 жыл бұрын
Either, both. It doesn't matter. You just measure from the centre. 0.5mm not only doesn't matter but it doesn't even exist. 0.5 is so small that it cannot sensibly be measured in inches. So it is irrelevant.
@erikpulkka5993
@erikpulkka5993 4 жыл бұрын
@@toofatlardies Thank you, makes sense. But not sure what you mean by 0.5mm, I said nothing about that small.
@toofatlardies
@toofatlardies 4 жыл бұрын
Jason Parker metric is crazy jibber jabber. Only a drug-crazed lunatic would ever choose centimetres over inches in a gaming environment. However, that aside, the 0.5cm reference was to the difference in radio us between a 60mm and 50mm ambush point. Radius, when measuring from the middle, is relevant, whereas diameter is not.

Rich said on the FB group that they wouldn't release the PDF before the printed book as it's a surefire way to lose money. Personally I'd be happy to buy the bundle of book/PDF and get the PDF first and then get the book at a later date.

Gary Strombo good. We have playtested both extensively. I like Roman civil war as you can have some whacky units like gladiators. I’m playing Belgae versus Germans tomorrow.
