@Bryan Mack tool is riddled with sub meaning. Ex: laturalus is all based on numerology, ænama is all about transition. Undertow is about fear, unknowing, and self hate. He (Maynard) is not living out a fantasy, but realizing his demon's and expressing them before action.

This song wasn't written to condone the cycle of abuse but in Maynard's words he said he wrote it the way he with the hope of bringing out repressed memories in people because repressed memories are only destructive and bad things happen when they're not worked through properly usually results in the same behavior being repeated.

I have seen countless Tool reaction videos of all kinds. Some people are musically inclined or professionals in some way. Some just people who love music. The Rappers react to. And so on. At the time of this message I haven't even watched the video yet. I just wanted to say Kudos to you both for doing this track. It's very deep and dark and meaningful but I almost never see this one reacted too or many from this album. It's usually Sober. Not that, that is a bad thing. I think the name really makes some people stay away from this one. Commend you for diving into this one than the same trending ones we all see everyone react to. Again, not a bad thing. Thumbs up from me on this one without even seeing the reaction yet.

Tool is a band that strives to make you have a certain feeling when you experience their music. Its pretty obvious that Maynard has a lot of issues and its part of his therapy to write and perform these songs.

Maynard is really gifted with his words. The media aka mtv believed this was pro molestation. Its not. It was to open our eyes that these things do happen to children all over the world. They stopped airing after three showings.

It's a powerful message illustrating the cycle of abuse (sexual, physical, institutional, verbal, whatever...). It isn't necessarily about rape, nor does it necessarily involve Maynard or condone abusive behavior. It simply highlights that the cycle of abuse exists, is very REAL and to be aware of it. Tool has a unique way of delivering a message. Thanks for the reaction.

You are correct about the song meaning. Glad you are able to understand the meaning deeply some people just assume it is about BDSM and crack jokes. It is an amazing song he made out of a horrible and humiliating experience rather than turn to repeating the cycle. Good review you guys👍

This song ruined the word "precious" forever. It's a heavy song that everyone should hear once. Catching a glimpse into the psychology of a rapist is painful, but it helps you understand that violence doesn't just come from nowhere. It's a cycle and cycles can be stopped.

This is one of the most raw Tool songs. They are usually more discrete in their meanings, but the title of the song kind of hits you in the face with imagery before you even hear the song. I think that is the reason it was named accordingly. I heard this song many times before knowing the title and then many more before actually knowing the lyrics. Ya'll got hit with them all on your first playthrough and came out like champs ;P I think the song title is very important. When many people hear the term "Prison Sex" (or harsher), they write it off as something that happens to criminals in prison, almost justifying it, and don't empathize with the victims. I am glad ya'll reacted to this song, but like others have mentioned I wish it wouldn't have been your introduction to Tool. I promise you will really enjoy their other music =)

An incredibly powerful and jarring song, Prison Sex, isn't for the faint of heart and it's better understood as part of the entire Tool album "Undertow". Took me awhile to figure out what it was all about and I heard it when it first came out in 1993. You understood the song right from the 1st (and likely only) time you've heard it. :)

One of the most rawest, honest and disturbing songs lyrically that was ever made. I remember hearing this song a few times, and I loved the groove. Then I read the lyrics and was floored. Thank God I’ve never been molested, but I’m an empathetic person and was able to feel the emotions behind it. “I’ve found some temporary sanity in this….”, hit me like a ton of bricks. The lust needed to do that to a child is demonic and a person must be possessed. And as a man who have used women before to “release”, only to gain my sanity afterwards and reject them, showed me a mirror. So as a man I know that insanity of being a puppet to your urges. I’m not proud of that and I’m no longer like that. But to do that to a child, and destroy that child’s life is beyond forgivable.

Hi you Two! I know that I just commented, but I thought that you may want to check out the movie/documentary, 'What Haunts Us'. It focuses on the class of 1979, at The Porter Gaud School in Charleston. 6 of the male students, after continually suffering sexual abuse have committed suicide since suffering....This movie highlights just ONE incident of a Faculty member being empowered to abuse, by the higher ups in the 'system'. Hello you two! This song is obviously about the cycle of sexual abuse. Unfortunately it happens in SO many lives. Boys being abused is sometimes forgotten? Yes Prison is THE place for this happening constantly, and there is no end in sight for those victims : ( -> However, Maynard James Keenan (singer/songwriter) is also sending a message that the victims of the abuse don't necessarily need to continue the cycle. The abused don't HAVE TO become abusers! Tmi? I broke the cycle. The thought of harming a person in that way makes me physically ill, and I wouldn't want it any other way! Bless you both and Good Health to You!

Tool has said from the outset that they want their music to be a catalyst for something positive with people. Despite the horrific topic matter that this song covers, it has influenced the two of you, in your brilliant reaction, to raise awareness and discuss openly of the subject of abuse. You have, in effect, used Tool's music to do something good...which is their intent.

As long as you can understand that this was Maynard's outlet for catharsis, and to speak about experiences during his childhood - you've got it. Essentially talk about it, and kill those feelings, or become the abuser. (...and also kind of have to give it out to the rest of his bandmates for supporting him in a way that facilitates bleeding out those really rough, disgusting emotions. I know I would have an incredibly hard time playing on a track that discussed such a dark topic.)

It's probably about forcing religion onto children then them growing up to force it on their own. Keenan seems to be good at euphemisms see also: Stinkfist where he is using fisting as a way to describe how we seem to require more and more stimulation to appreciate life. He seemed pretty down on religion in the early albums and even a few APC songs.
