A little late, but as another atheist, I want to mention a couple things. First, I really like the thought and care of your analysis, particularly the discussion of the Darwinian juxtaposition upon the Judeo-Christian origin story. I found quite a few things interesting here. I love that you refer to a variety of belief systems with respect and credence while maintaining your own ideology. I thought Sori's face was very eloquent through the song, and she viscerally reacted to what I think you would agree is an eloquent indictment of aspects of the human experience. Aside from all that, one thing I found fascinating here was how Vin in particular kept coming back to "the payoff" (inherit the earth etc), partly because that isn't really implied in the song, and second because given the rest of the discussion it seemed a curious impulse -- that these things aren't worth doing in and of themselves but rather because they lead to a reward. I've always heard this song as a kind of parable: an agonizingly beautiful tragedy intended to provoke self-reflection and hopefully improvement. Regardless, thanks for your reaction video -- helped me refine my own understanding of this wonderful song.

Intension is the prologue to this song, it really is a part of the story and it will click even more if you hear it. It goes way back to the most basic ideas about what it is that makes us human. It's also reflected in the music as well as the music transform from ancient (tribal drumming) to modern /industrialized (electronic drumming) it's really a history lesson wrapped in a piece of music. The song than flows over in right in two which is the psychological /spiritual side of it. Check it out.

I can't describe it well, but all Tool songs bring me visions of the Golden Spiral. Each line seems to build then fade, in a rhythm like I'm standing still and they are curving by ... like on a carousel...but the intensity is growing during the entire song, spiraling larger and larger; a Golden Spiral.

SingForAbsolution 01 thank you for that comment. First time saying this is in a comment but Tools music saved my life. I relate alot to the music. From undertow, to thirteenth step (apc), and of course lateralus, and 10000 days. Maynards story has always hit home to me, which is obvious it has to countless others. So watching people who get the music and see the brilliance is awesome for me to me watch. Everyday or so i peep out if theres a tool reaction. Just to see who the music effects. Vin and sori get it. They r the first channel who actually pay attention to genius musicality and lyrics w out seeming fake. Others channels i thought "get it" kinda let me down. Seemed like the overall objective was just views. Music has power. It can effect us negative or positive. And tool is all the way positive. Genious in my book.

VinAnd Sori sorry for the delay, WiFi was crap so I had to wait until I got home. Ok, sori u r correct, vin u need to close your eyes bro LOL, just helps to feel the sounds imo. I could talk about this song for hours. It really creates a visual of how messed up humans r. I mean come on, let’s be real, if the 10 most wealthiest ppl in the would sat around the table and said “ hey, so what do u guys want to do to be productive today?” 1 should say, “let’s end world hunger by putting some of our money to good use huh”. But of course that doesn’t happen, bc everyone is so wrapped up in personal gain, power and selfishness. That is what humans hv evolved to, something to b proud of right? I feel that this song has to make even just a few ppl think about the direction we r heading as a race..the entire human race, fuck all the colors! In addition, how the world would be different if we all cared a little bit more. Thought a little bit more in advance, how your actions and decisions can make a change in how the world works. I really try to stay positive everyday in hopes that we can look at the big picture and “love thy neighbor” as opposed to taking my neighbor out so I can gain something from it. I feel I’ve rambled a bit after having a couple drinks to decompress after my 13 hr work day lol, sorry for that. I could probably put together a better explanation if I wasn’t so tired and actually typed on my computer LOL. Skipped around a bit and lots more to say but u guys get the idea I’m sure. This song is very powerful and, in time, it will keep touching ppl, 1 by 1. That is progress.

It's weird and interesting to hear a Christians view of Tool lyrics when traditionally their fans tend to be secular and (in my opinion) are written to be secular. However, Tool does take lots of inspiration from Christian iconography and thought processes and some go over my head.. so it's good to actually have people with some experience and knowledge in that to point out the connections. I am an atheist.. but our culture is so Christian and influenced that you have to at least know something about it to get the full spectrum of our society.

Agreed on all counts. His lyrics are sometimes literal, sometimes metaphorical, symbolic, etc. In some songs, the meaning changes depending on how you break up the prose - Weak and Powerless, for example.

Absolute perfection. It gets under your skin and gives you the chill. Whatta journey....like a complete epic two hour movie compacted into six or seven minutes with all two hour of intensity squished in hard. I truthfully think it's going to be something along the lines of Vicarious. Its a very aggressive song at the start, slows and builds into something even more aggressive at the end with the chorus. Plus its a great meaning and message, i also think Aenima and possibly Rossetta Stoned. All great songs and there are still many unmentioned, realize its hard for people introduced to Tool through the later albums to go back and listen to, Undertow for example. The band progressed through the years and even tho die hard fans will shake their fist at me, listening to old songs vs new songs is night and day. The progress the band made making their music more intricit and unique has grown substancially.

I have been watching a lot of different KZbinrs reacting to great bands that have been a part of my daily listening since their release. I suppose the thing I have to equate to the overwhelming reaction that almost all the channels have in common is, if you don't know, how could you have known? Just like all genres there is good and bad. But what has been missing from pop and hip hop and rap is musicianship and sorry to say, just a lack of any content that makes you think. You would make your whole channel based on Tool reactions. Lyrical content aside, the Sonic side of the band could still take you on the journey you keep experiencing. So much more for Sori to experience. I see the lyrics affecting you but just as with most of us the darker minor chords have affected you emotionally and I think Vin has intentionally pointed you this direction. Vin you are a very good guide so far. As far as your Tool project, that is something else that is missing from popular music. The majority of the bands that have been featured made the album's to be listened to from begging to end. I think you should get your audio and video technically ready and do a whole album live broadcast while you 2 function in the home, maybe say something here and there, but listen and deal with the whole album and then react. I have a suggestion, Mars Volta is very deep but prior to that band the bulk of that band was called At the Drive Inn. One Armed Scissor, do it!

Repugnant is a creature who squander the ability to lift an eye to Heaven conscious of his fleeting time here" Polarity "Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled." - The Kybalion. The Divine Paradox "The half-wise, recognizing the comparative unreality of the Universe, imagine that they may defy its Laws - such are vain and presumptuous fools, and they are broken against the rocks and torn asunder by the elements by reason of their folly. The truly wise, knowing the nature of the Universe, use Law against laws; the higher against the lower; and by the Art of Alchemy transmute that which is undesirable into that which is worthy, and thus triumph. Mastery consists not in abnormal dreams, visions and fantastic imaginings or living, but in using the higher forces against the lower - escaping the pains of the lower planes by vibrating on the higher. Transmutation, not presumptuous denial, is the weapon of the Master." - The Kybalion.

Reaction and review are two different words with two different meanings. Are you doing reaction videos, as in first time listening, or are you doing reviews of music you've heard already? Big thing to be clear about for your viewers. I only have interest in watching people experience songs for the first time, also known as a reaction video. Video says reaction, however you kept saying review. Are you reacting and reviewing? You may want to check out other channels so that you have a better grasp on the differences between these two words ;)
@VinAndSori6 жыл бұрын
Good feedback, it’s both actually, Sori has never heard any of them, and honestly all the recommends I’m getting, particularly with tool, neither have I. But one of the things we do is also take our first instinct as to the meaning of the song especially if there’s historical context around it. The clarification is important thank you for sharing that !

I just read what I said and I sounded like an ass, my apologies lol not my intentions. I liked the video, I just spent a little time in the beginning trying to figure out what place you guys were coming from. I like seeing people enjoy my kind of music for the first time. Just some friendly advice, maybe put "reaction/review" in your title. Some do, but to be honest, putting "react" is good enough, because giving a "review" naturally happens by the person "reacting anyway."

I think it's always interesting to think of the human condition... but really a lot of things we call the human condition exist within the animal kingdom. The territoriality, the violent solutions. As advanced as we get, with all the different types of technological weapons of war we create. We're just monkeys fighting monkeys when it comes down to it. We can't advance past our animal programming. One thing I absolutely love about this whole album is the use of tabla.

Excellent reaction and analysis of the lyrics. Tool is my favorite band and I agree that this song in particular has a great theme that isn't necessarily as obscure as some of their other ones, but still gets you thinking about the human condition and state of the world, which everyone can or should relate to. This is exactly what Tool wants you to do with their music, first enjoy the groove, then let their art and lyrics immerse you in their world. I enjoyed this as my first video from you guys and subscribed. Thank you.
