2 things: 1/ lubricate the extension first, very important 2/ run up to high speed for 1-2 minutes and you'll hear it pick up speed as it lubes. Ready to use.

I got one of these for Christmas this year and was excited to use it. But like you found, it was complicated without any instructions for noobies like me to this tool. Thanks for showing me how to use it with your explanations of how to use the attachments. Thanks to you, I'm ready to go!

Hi Steve and Everyone. That little 'sanding disk' is actually a little cut off wheel. It's the same as an angle grinder cut off wheel, only smaller, and a lot more fragile.

That cone thing for maintaining depth of cut is pretty handy. I have used it to make carvings with and a top for a sunglass case.

Being a proud Lancastrian and a Blackburn Rovers supporter I like the red rose (maybe some non Brits might not understand) . I have a cheap VonHaus and I have to say for the level of work I do I like it.

I got an almost identical set (without the pistol grip and depth gauge) a couple years ago at my local Tru Value Hardware on sale for 19.99. I also have a Dremel with a bunch of attachments. Everything is interchangeable except the flex shaft. The threads of the screw on end that attaches to the motor unit are different. They both work fine. I have noticed that the Tru Value unit bogs down much easier than the Dremel when I use the cutoff wheels. I also had a Harbor Freight rotary tool a few years ago, but it didnt just bog down, it would stop completely. Gave it to my son to mess around with. I keep one in the garage and one in the basement.

I have a Dremel with the flex shaft. After watching this I would still save up and buy the Dremel. Assembling not just the flex shaft but changing the sanding and cutting wheels is much simpler. If you use it a lot changing those cutting wheels can be a pain, having extra steps and tiny washers added in makes a fun task a frustrating one.

samron then you have the fancy quick exchange accessories, all of my basic ones work exactly the same as in this video, yet I agree the dremel is a better choice due to the variety of attatchments specifically designed for it!

I have this very tool. The flex shaft pooped out on me so I bought the Dremel shaft. Someone below said they weren't interchangeable but mine works perfectly with the Dremel shaft.

Yes dreamel flex shaft will fit most rotary tools I think you'll just need to change collets.

Steve they are cut off disks, not sanding disks... I have been using mine (infrequently) for over 3 years. Still works fine. Dremel was more than twice the price when I bought this.

Before I got myself a Dremel, I had a rotary tool really similar to this one. All the attachments can be used on either of the tools, they can go even in a cordless drill for example. Really really versatile tools. At first you have no idea what to do with them, but you will know what to do when you will need it.

Hi Joseph. I've used Dremel for a lot of years. However, years ago I got one that looks very identical to the one Steve is showing, except it's blue and white. It also doesn't have the pistol grip or guard around the on switch. It's been working fine for about 5-6 years now. Warning: I can't say for sure that it's the same unit or not.

Hi Steve! Just a question with that flex attachment, I have one tool just like that but from Ryobi, did that flex thing got warm when you used it for a long period of time? Or it keep cold/normal while using it? Thanks for the video, huge fan of your work at WWMM!

These are just like any generic chinese rotary tools. I had many and they are not good. The disk cutters breaks easily. Also they vibrate a lot.

its a rotary tool which is what a Drtemel is. Dremel is the brand name the tool isnt called a Dremel. Same sort of thing as a Vacuum cleaner and Hoover. People call vacuum cleaners Hoovers but thats just a brand name
