For me.... TOOL is beyond music.... TOOL is my love....

Genesis was their biggest inspiration for the most part. Like Peter Gabriell James wheres a big kabookie mask and jumps on stage sometimes, something pioneered by early genesis. Also Pink Floyd was a huge inspiration as well, and I think King Crimson was too.

Yes, they are one of the other coolest bands that's still surviving. I know Monochrome wasn't amazing, but it was still great.

True, also Helmet is still around, I know the only member is Page Hamilton, but that's cool because he was always the driving force for the creativity in the band anyways.

[....]i'd be surprised if even MJK himself is completely and totally thrilled with getting most of the media spotlight. seems to me that in much the same way as their visual presentation as a band is assigned to Adam, it would make the most sense to the structure of the band to leave words/voice stuff in general to Maynard. not only does it fit the band's structure, it leaves our fine instrumentalists the freedom of relative anonymity.

HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA Danny didn't even know who linkin park are (assuming that's actually the band specified in the question -he- heard, all we get is the voice over), that's fucking glorious, "are they a 'boy band'?", LOVE IT. it'd be really cool i think if lead-spokesperson eventually got passed from Maynard to him, as the drummer and the eldest he's the backbone of the group anyway, insofar as there is one.

A million points of light ascending to the sky Monuments in darkness standing watch until the sun will rise Screaming to an emptiness of how we deified ourselves With our hands over eyes, claiming all of creation. What inspires in us this madness That our existence should be defined By a light that cant be seen by anyone? What inspires in us this madness That our existence should be defined By a light that we cant see?

was a bit surprised they didn't express greater appreciation for file sharing, really, which i don't think would have been mutually exclusive to the point MJK did make. very useful to lots of starting bands getting their name out, nevermind as a way for those who do still buy albums to preview stuff.

@daliend16 жыл бұрын
yeah, I agree. You can't pose as underground when you have two number 1 spots at billboard (Lateralus, 10K days) as well as limp bizkit and linkin park and well produced videos in 3-D or Stopmotion ( Adam Jones colaborated to big budget productions such as Terminator and Jurassic Park). I guess that here, MAY is really been a CYNICAL OLD BASTARD, as he already said in other interveiw. LOVE TOOL ANYWAY!
@DonHaussettler16 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with that statement.
@idwita16 жыл бұрын
really tho, i originally was just voicing my own curiousity, at the notion of Danny's coming to share the media voice more and more prominently. in any good band, the drummer is in a technically fundamental sense the foundation of the overall structure. Danny in particular is also both widely known (whether he likes it or not and despite all attempts at stealth) as a drum virtuoso and/or god, and significantly the eldest of the guys.
@idwita16 жыл бұрын
you can tell they're -very- careful about their media exposure (as we expect from TOOL). i'd find it very believable that they -prefer- to leave the majority of words with Maynard. less attention on them. in fact,
@Hacker50614 жыл бұрын
@51yourtimeisup The problem is the one Maynard said, piracy is giving the art the option to step back, since artist right now are difficulty getting paid as they need to perform/create good music which has no value in the market.

yeah i agree with you. thats not what i was trying to say. i was trying to say that for me, art is something what moves me. what challeneges me. in many levels. i didnt mean intelligent in the scence of reason, but in the scence of not underestimating the consumers. if im not challenged by the artwork,then it means nothing to me. if i feel that the artwork is here to please me, or to please a larger audience,then its not the artwork, couse its not honest to itself, its reasonably precalculated.

@daliend16 жыл бұрын
well, its a good particular way to see how art it its. I´m not disagreeing with you, that´s your point of view. But I guess the real art goes througth everything, if it is really impactant, it will sooner or later be admired by a majority of public, because it connects a common sense of what everybody is feeling.Sometimes the real challange is to provide pleasure to a amount of people. A good exemple of it in music were the beatles. P.S.: thank you for been so polite and respectful

i wouldnt call those bands "underground" considering i hate all of them yet have heard of them... so clearly if i wasnt looking for them they came to me.. and the reason they get played on the radio is because there is no other band like them in sound.. anywhere.. they are one of a kind...so its natuaral that they got played... not to mention.. they never reached out to the mainstream it came to them .TOOL just dont care.on radio off radio they really dont give a shit..and thats how it should be
@Hacker50614 жыл бұрын
Use Tool as a tool to understand, even tho I'm not that ok with Careys comment about we're going in a good way at the beginning, we're not going in a good way, we're just no feeling war as we felt in the 40's 10's, but we are down with the consumption of the things that we don't have available, resources and everything that ends in a cheap hollywood society consumed by stupid feelings and stereotypes where you for example can't see this kind of music again.

well if you consider lyrics like oh "fuck im in pain,nobody likes me,im alone,i hate you,i wanna break something,you are liar" emotional than i dont know. of course you can express yourself in very straightforeward way,but if you do it the same way for all your carrer than its not expression. and that straightforeward way can be intelligent too. same with the music.
