The're a lot to Tool's music and Justin Chancellor's use of textures, sounds and percussively cutting tone just blow my mind. This is a great example of the potential reached when you challenge the status quo!

Nice to see a fellow left legger! Love your covers Kello! Do you find it a challenge to do the pedal tones that seem to be in every Tool song without using a pick? I'll look at more of your videos but this is something that seems to me would be very hard to do without a pick. I prefer fingers myself for the freedom and feeling "in-touch" with my bass but yeah, the pedal note/tone thing remains a mystery to me with fingers...

Justin is obviously incredible but people Forget Paul D"amour wrote some of their best basslines too. Honestly when i learned he was responsible for songs like Stinkfist, Eulogy, Pushit, Ænema, i was baffled. Not to mention my personal favorite and absolutely crushing bass part, H. Not to mention the great riffs he wrote on Opiate. Stuff like Cold & Ugly that just punches you in your face right off the bat. I think Paul is the better bassist if youre looking for straight up crushing bass parts and heaviness. Justin is your guy for that too but he also employs many other cool techniques like the harmonics on Disposition or... the entirety of Lateralus. Best bass lineup ever probably and its just two guys lmao.

Okay dudskie, you are now officially responsible for hooking me up with bass. Just bought my first today. In my past, long time ago, I played lots on guitar (death / black metal) and just today I realised that many, many years ago i simply picked up the wrong instrument. The plus side is that experience from fast metal music made my fingers work like hammers, to hammer on / pull off / legato / taping and alternate picking come in handy now. Have some problem with playing using only fingers though, hope it will pass, but it you have any advice how to excercise it (thumb, index finger and middle finger seem promising, but the other two ones are kinda feeling 'underdeveloped' - it's a fucking waste i think, but then i see lots of players just using the three fingers doing fine, do you think it's wise to skip those two and just use them different way (holding onto the bridge, or maybe somehow using them to mute strings not needed at any particular moment? I see howewer lots of bass players muting string with their left hand, quite unusual for 'standard; electric guitar. Not sure what to with it now, just go with whatever's comfortable, or put a bit more effort in training the pinky? Cheers mate, well done in all videos, you fucking rock. And thans for the inspiration!
@kellogc6 жыл бұрын
Well, all I can say is that since you already have experience playing just do whatever feels comfortable to get familiar with the new instrument. Little by little you can assess your strengths and weaknesses and work them. Either if it is sticking to use a pick, or start getting the fingers rolling, just remember it'll require patience to break old habits. Start slow and use a metronome. Thanks!
