Ofall the french cleat videos (maybe 30) I'e watched I like yours most coz you start with simple with tools on a garden table or on the ground, you use old bits of wood recycling 4x2 and mdf doors, simple , practical and easy to follow.

Sir, this wall may look simple to some, but there was a lot of planning and thought that went into this build and it is very doable for those of us who can not afford to use Baltic Birch on everything. I really like that your router guide for making dados is made of metal and will be long-lasting. I do have a suggestion for that too. IKEA sells cheap thin cutting boards made of poly-nylon material (3 for $2.50 or so) and once cut to fit the width of the steel track, your router will glide effortlessly. I used the same cutting boards for a circular saw cross-cut jig made using aluminum for tracks. To make the strips seamless I cut the ends on each on an angle with an Exacto knife so that when they butt up to each other there is no big seam. The cutting boards are only a few mm thick, so they are very easy to cut. Your attention to detail with the round-over edges and final sanding took it to the next level! Once you have organized your workshop, there is a sense of accomplishment and relief that comes with it. You have inspired me to finally move my behind and get mine done this weekend. This is the first video I have seen from you. You have a new subscriber. I want to tell you something. Do you have any idea how refreshing it is to see someone build like this? You used scrap, you used 2x4s for your cleats, you have a very small shop, and you don't look like you are sponsored. Just a regular guy, with a basic tool set, using whatever you have to get the job done. The connection I have to you, because of this, is pretty impressive. I work with the same things you do, I have a small place to work, I use scraps, my first cleats were 2x4 that came from an old set of shelves I built, I have a small set of tools. It was fantastic watching you do what you did, with what you had to work with. I really preferred this to watching someone with a 40x40 shop that has every tool you could think of. You made the entire process approachable. Thank you. BTW, your mallet holder design can also be used to store your drills. I use 1 3/4" wide slots for mine. Take it easy.

I love this video. I’m looking for a french cleat system and helpful to see a metric unit video. It looks like some of the holders were made using veneered mdf . Is that right ? I have lots of that and hoped to use it rather than buying ply as I don’t have any ply

yes Jay, all the big frames were predominantly plywood, but I also used veneered MDF for smaller items, like trays, hammer/chisel rack, etc. I think, as long as the boxes/frames are small, it should be fine.

Thanks Robert, yes it should work with 18mm ply. The key is the design and the ability to blend it neatly in a dining room. I don't have space in my house, but I have used french cleats to hang stuff around. In one of my videos on making a wall art candle holders, I did use french cleats in my dining room, to hang it up.

Cheers Alejandro👍😁. I only use my old vac in the garage. Since space is tight, I just got an additional length of dust extraction hose, that I connect to my tools with adaptors. I also noticed that the structures were unusually large. Covered up a lot of the cleats that were installed. Usual to use 2x4’s as cleats as it spaces things too far from the walls. Also the primary use of a cleat system is the ability to move things around. With the size of these structures I doubt they can move much.. Might have saved a lot of wood and space to just build the structures and mount them on the wall.

I actually made a shelf, but ran out of space on the wall to hang it 😁. It's there in the video as well. This wood block is a quick version 2, that takes the least space, but creates enough clearance for the circular saws blade guide. And that's screwed in on the top shelf as well.

Very nice and robust system. You are the only one (on KZbin) I see using such big chunks of wood for the cleats (I usually see much thinner pieces used). However, I see you made a lot of big, heavy cupboard structures to hang on your cleat wall, right up to the point where I thought you are missing the point of a versatile cleat system, where you build small, light structures to move around and hang up where ever you want or is convenient for the project or situation you work on/from at that moment. Anyway, nice video. I learned a few things from it. Thanks!
