The one thing that I love this guy is that he completely destroyed the myth that "you need a huge kit." Dude is playing dream theater, and avenge sevenfold and tool with a three piece and single kit. There's a reason why hes quickly becoming the most popular drummer

This reminds me of a comment made by the stage crew for our last show.. the support band was complaining the provided drum kit only had 2 toms not 3. The stage legend said, "mate, if you can't play it on 2 toms, you can't play it" This legend just proves the point.

Of all the songs I've heard you play this one seems to be the one. The one that takes a lot out of a drummer mentally as much as physically and you nailed it! I'm 52 and just bought a new set of drums after laying the sticks down 25 years ago. Watching you play this cover brought back why I played and why I loved it so much! Thanks for sharing this.

I am 71 years old and I've been addicted to music since I was 10. I saw Elvis , Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, Mahavishnu Orchestra and hundreds of other musicians. However, the musicianship of today is light years beyond beyond what I heard on my transistor radio at 11 years old!! This Drummer spun my Grey matter pretty good!! I've always loved players who are fun to watch and this Drummer is the whole toolbox!! I've discovered several Drummers by watching this channel. There's a 9 year old Drummer who I'm not certain is Human play like no one I've ever heard. Would love to see a Supergroup of players under 10 years old. That 9 year old Drummer would be where I would start!! The kid is a Metronome!! LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!! WE=mc2

I can’t play like this. But, there’s something to be said for Danny Carey and the notes he doesn’t play, as much as the notes he does. Those polyrhythms just aren’t the same when every note that can possibly be played is played. It’s like the instrumental equivalent of a vocalist over singing a song. Tool is famous for the ebbs and flows of the instruments in the band, all together. If they had even one artist, and I do mean artist in the truest sense of the word, who played like this…. the band wouldn’t work. Estepario’s drum skills and speed are insane!! But, Danny Carey knows what not to play, in service of the song.

So good memories rushed into my brain reading you. Remembering rehearsals with my band, playing the same song over and over and, after perfecting it to the next level, everybody was connected. Being "in the zone" they call it. And living it, smiling through the process, your body reacts, your muscles are ready, your fingers don't hesitate, just fly. As a band, when that happens, there's a silence after playing the whole song. A moment to digest what just happened. Everything was and is perfect. A studio interpretation of your own song. That's an amazing experience, really.

@@depechex another word for it is "flow state" - that perfect knife-edge between not caring anymore and caring too much. Of course, it's only once in a blue moon that this happens for your band at the actual gig....but if it does.....for me it was like a high so pure there was no need to chase another one, if that even seems plausible. I can put that night on every resume EVER in my mind. We were INVINCIBLE for that 30-40 minute set. Sorry for that self-indulgence, but your comment brought me back to that untouchable feeling.

TOOL is by far my favorite band in our universe and has been since the first time I heard them in 1995, as a drummer Danny Carey is my idol and have been fortunate to have met him at a signing and actually bumped into him at an airport in Hawaii, after watching your rendition to "THE POT" I totally dig it, I myself I cannot read music and I have learned everything I know by just practicing and feeling the rhythm, the tone, and transforming what I'm hearing flowing that through my body and seeing what comes out, so having said that I am defiantly not a professional by any means I just play what I am feeling so I can totally relate to different renditions of songs because like I mentioned before I cannot read music, So I love this man, I had to sell my drum kit a few years back in need of money, I had a 7 piece PEARL set that I loved and now I am trying hard to acquire another kit and have been just looking at a 4 piece to keep it simple and hone in and build my skill set, watching you rip up your kit just inspires me to stay on my goal. Had me at the 5lb weight in the snare. You dont need Neil Peart's set to sound phenomenal. My face was like that green guy in the corner. Some well placed yells, even a quick brow wipe and stick slam to boot. I will be watching again. Memento mori! Cool dude.

This vid is three years old. Guy has grown in leaps and bounds since then. But he was just riffing with the tune and putting his own spin on it (possibly improvised in the moment). He's solo here, not in a live band context that he must serve. Showing he has these chops is part of what has made him successful on KZbin. It's hard to imagine a drummer of his skill couldn't "do less" and drum in a more "nuanced" or "tasteful" manner, if he felt the need. Regardless, not sure why people are telling him not to touch Tool. Tool is an awesome band. My favorite metal band in fact along with And Justice for All and earlier Metallica. But still just a band, not God.

Here's the thing about El's drumming. It doesn't soak you into the music more. It doesn't create a greater emotional connection with the music. It's like Eddie Van Halen's solos.... amazing! Super technical and something to admire, sit back and say "wow... that's insane talent". Generally speaking though, for being "one with the music", getting that emotional connection, less is more. Musically speaking, he doesn't make any songs better... just more admirable... if that makes sense.
