I'm pretty sure the WNBA takes their percentage out of the total revenue...not the revenue left after expenses are subtracted from profits. The majority of WNBA teams don't generate a profit...so their players need to be paid out of the total revenue generated and the NBA needs to subsidize the difference in order to make sure some teams don't go under. If they were paid out of their profits...like most other sports leagues in the World...your point would be true. They'd either have to pay to play or teams would start folding because they couldn't afford to pay them.

Women's professional golf has the tees not as far back as the men. 40 or 50 yard longer shots into greens would make for less dynamic shot making and scoring for the women on tour. It just makes so much more sense to have the rim a bit shorter. Find out what the vertical jump average is for men vs women and adjust. Or you could just experiment with a 9 1/2 rim or 9 1/4, and see the difference it makes. Could be a real positive. No sense in letting pride keep you from exploring opportunities to improve the game and make it more fun for the players and fans. Without trying something new, we wouldn't have a shot clock, or a three point line.

I say 9.3 ft just to give them a little extra advantage. Women have compensate for both the lack of height and the lack of vertical, average height in wnba is half a foot less than the WNBA, and the average vertical is 9 inches less than the average NBA vertical. So the WNBA is on average at almost a foot and a half disadvantage when comparing height + vertical

Revenue is not the same as profit/loss. The WNBA does make revenue off of ticket sales, merchandise, concessions, advertising, tv deals, etc. What they don't do is turn a profit because they spend more than they make in revenue, which is where the NBA comes in to bail them out. The women want the WNBA to give a share of the revenue BEFORE they pay their bills, in essence making the WNBA lose astronomically more money each season than they already are. No one ever accused these ladies of having logic or reason backing their ideas.

Took my family to a WNBA game a couple years ago, worst attitudes ive seen in sports besides the USA women's soccer team(shocking I know) The next problem was that there was nobody in the stands and whatever your picturing it was less, much less. Finally my kids who (two girls and one boy) all play basketball, seriously thought it was some kind of opposite world Globetrotters i believe my daughter called it, because where as the Globetrotters make everything and are all fancy with amazing ball control,this was not that! Not that at all! Missing open shots, layups, turn overs,even free throws weren't made consistently. Lowering the rim is the coolest thing for us short dudes. We played full court on 8' 6" hoop outdoor court in Kailua Hawaii in 86 we even had fans around the park watching us all the time. When you can finger roll like George Gervin and dunk like chocolate thunder and Dr. J. it was nice and the fans loved it. The fans didn't give 1 ish the rims weren't 10 feet high.

You've hit the nail on the head and the rim height discussion just highlights it. It's an attitude problem. The women want to play like the men and they suck at it. Lowering the rim would absolutely help the women be more exciting like the men, but I don't feel like that's the solution. They'll always be worse than the men and college for that reason. The women need to embrace what has historically made the women's game great. The disparity between the best and worst player on the floor is much much smaller. They cannot run the iso-game because there aren't enough dominant women to do it and help defense exists. What has made the women's game entertaining for years is how team oriented it has been. Some people say it's a focus on fundamentals, but it's more that it's old school team basketball. Quick passes, drive and dish, help defense, etc. all make for a more entertaining product. While the NBA and NCAAM are pushing for superstars to have highlights, the women can market themselves are pure old school basketball. Nobody is ever going to watch an inferior product by choice, but they will watch a slightly different product because it offers something different. The problem is, the individuals want to be superstars and not just team players. They're so focused on status that they've lost sight of sport. As a side note, ticket prices need to come down, efforts need to be made to interact with fans, and they need to humble themselves to the fact they are going to have to work and do fan outreach to grow the sport. Soccer, men's and women's, does this. Minor League teams do it. If you don't have the fanbase, you need to go make one.

This is the answer. Lowering the rim to 9.5 is good. But until the wnba realizes that their product isn't the same as the NBA, it won't matter. What made the women's tournament in March 2023 so great was because we saw great teams of one play style go up against a great team with a different play style. For fans of basketball, it was fascinating and fun to watch. We were watching teams play. We weren't watching super stars. Though, that was how they tried to market the final 4. It wasn't about that LSU girl versus that Iowa girl. It was about those 2 really good teams and how they matched up against the rest of of the feild. I've tried to watch the wnba. It's unwatchable. It's not a team game. It's trash. They need to get college coaches and let them really recruit to their philosophy.

What's crazy in their logic too is the NBA itself has experimented with raised rims because it was too easy for the men to score. Also the NBA has had paramount changes that players absolutely hated, I.e the three point line 3 seconds in the paint. The NBA right now is going through a crisis losing long time fans for the same reasons the WNBA cant get fans is the ridiculous number of 3 points shots. So the idea the WNBA is perfect and just need people to sit there and watch the game whether they like it or not is absurd. Realize that Lisa Leslie played in the very first wnba game ever and had an opportunity to dunk in that game but came up short. The very first game could've had a dunk in it. She ended up being the first to ever dunk in the league YEARS later. I was watching both games live on tv. I'm the same age as Leslie and knew about her since high school when she scored 100 points. I grew up in the 80's watching Cheryl Miller too. Women's basketball actually had fans back in the day and they weren't acting entitled either from what I remember. Word is the Current Crop of Players aren't all about Accepting a Straight Player Into The Fold and nurturing her Talent and Performance. Seem Two Teams have to be Played On in order to be accepted.................This Is Cult Like Behavior and has Poisoned The WNBA, to the point that one current "Star" blithely Stated, "Nobody is really retiring so fans will get to see the same thing for a longer time" or words to that Exact Same Effect. Unless you really are Playing at the Elite level Continuously like MJ, Bird, Shaq, Magic, Etc. were/are, Nobody with a spot on the Team Roster should "Get Comfortable" EVER> The lady I spoke of commented, Unintentionally, to the Complacency that permeates, and has eroded the WNBA in so many ways. Take an Honest Look at the "Conditioning" of the Players. They must run a whole lot to be able to Bumble back & forth across the Court like they do, from Air Ball To Air Ball & Their stamina to do that at least is a good thing, BUT A further look takes in the "Almost" Total lack of Tone in their Limbs(Both Legs and Arms). The Muscular Tone in both their arms and legs is not Easily Seen(It Largely Doesn't Exist, or Can't Be Seen, at least). Both Legs and arms show very little, if any Tone Or Definition are not "Well Defined", or just Defined. Nope. Not That Either. If you discount their Height and compare almost any WNBA "Baller?" with any other "Regular Woman who might Exercise A Little On Occasion, there is No Difference in their appearances. This is either from WNBAers being Genetic Anomalies, Freaks Of Nature, OR They Don't Work Out with the purpose of adding whatever Musculature that's needed to Play Basketball at an Elite Level, which would surely add to the Tone and definition of their easily seen Arms And Legs....Wouldn't it? I know they don't want Schwarzenegger like Muscles. That type of Muscle would Hinder rather than help their performance on the course, so the training has to be Specific toward Better Balling, but a Woman with a Gut waddling around the court isn't Ideal either.....Is It? I'm trying to be fair, and freely admit that my knowledge of Genetics and Musculature, is second only to my lack of knowledge(First Hand) at Elite Level B-Ball Performance Enhancement & how to put together the Complete "Package" of a perfect Female B-Baller is accomplished. While my Peers were playing Basketball, which was Very Popular & Closely Followed in my Small Rural Community during the 1950s & 60s(Think "Friday Night Lights" Mindset and Mania, but with Financially Challenged Southern Farm Boys And Girls) I was At The Rodeo or Working Horses for Myself and others who were into Showing & Competing Horse Critters, and keeping my Ass attached to the Hurricane Deck of Both Rank Broncs And Bucking Bulls. Both my Brother and Sister(The Ladies Played Half Court Back Then) were quite good a Basketball, and my Parents went to some Away Games, but Every Single Home Game, so I began watching the games very early in life. B-Ball was The Only Sport my small school had enough students to form a viable Team(No football team Ever, and no Track team until I was a HS Junior in 1967. I went every Ball Game I could all throughout my School Years, so I'm not a Neophyte, but my real interests lay with Horse Critters. Even with Very Hard Work and A Bunch Of TRY, I couldn't have turned B-Balling into a career, by any means, but I was good enough to earn my living(Missed Meal Cramps weren't unheard of though) off Riding Broncs and Bulls(Mostly Broncs...Horses With Bad Attitudes) and Training Horses, for well over a Decade after graduating from both High School and Uncle Sugar's Navy(The Draft And Veeetnaaaaam, Republic Of, and The Draft Were A Thing Back Then). Let's jut say I know enough about B-Ball(I also am No Stranger to the type of conditioning, Muscle Memory and Strength training needed to Compete Against Very Good Opponents) to be able to see what is working and what isn't AND The WNBA Isn't Working. The Players, for the most part appear rather Flaccid in their physical appearance, agility an overall performance. College Female Basketball Players appear far better Conditioned and more Serious and Dedicated to their chosen sport. Shouldn't it be The Other Way Around? Is there something I'm Missing here??? If someone will kindly enlighten me as to what it is I'm Missing, I'll be Grateful.

I can honestly say lowering the rims would not peak my interest whatsoever. I don't think ramping up the masculinity more than it already is, along with their attitudes, would change much. If I'm watching women's sports I would choose figure skating, tennis, and volleyball and probably a few others before women's basketball. If I want to watch basketball I'd choose men's college basketball first, nba, overseas pro leagues, and finally the G league long before the wnba. Maybe just maybe if they were to go back and have the attitude of the first players in the nba, nfl, nhl, etc...who would have played even if they weren't paid and just enjoyed the game, they would learn to be grateful for what they have and actually enjoy what they do instead of being so set on what they are entitled to.
