@@lonedesertfox Don't know about the string trimmer, but I ran the M18 FUEL 16 in. 18-Volt Chainsaw with a mere 5AH battery for a solid half hour no problem. I doubt the trimmer would suck much more power than that. But, CPO Milwaukee is selling the 2825-21ST M18 FUEL String Trimmer Kit with XC8 Extended Capacity 8 Ah Li-Ion Battery - 48-11-1880 and charger for $299, and FREE Milwaukee QUIK-LOK Attachment when you order this item! @@0rnery On the contrary. I have run my 8.0 HO battery fairly low doing my yard and my neighbors and the back alley area with my Milwaukee. When I take it easy I can drop it a bar and then run my blower and get it down to 1 bar but it will run for a good while and this is with minimum pauses, the line cutter set to 16 inches, setting on high and giving it beans. I'd say the 5.0 will give you decent run time on a small yard but you'd be better off getting minimum the 8.0. Check Amazon where they sell for half the price.

So I bought the latest model of Milwaukee to day 6/14/20 model 2825-21 st very happy . Much easier to control than my gas trimmer. The box says 3 year warranty with home or Pro use. It did not come with the shoulder strap like I see the attachment strap on yours. After an hour of use my arms were a bit tired so I am ordering the strap. Great review, this helped me choose.the Milwaukee. My gas trimmer was an echo, 6 yrs old that finally died, glad to not need to mix gas and oil any longer

It looks like your Milwaukee string trimmer is set to 14" swath. You can rotate the line cutting blade to swap it to 16" swath and you'll get a bit more power. You do sacrifice runtime a bit though.
@stevew3978
@stevew3978 3 жыл бұрын
What you gain in tip speed going from 14" to 16" you end up losing in torque. For the same motor, cutting at 14" will have more torque than at 16". Torque matters more when it comes to cutting heavy weeds.

I had the DeWalt String Trimmer, the model below the Flex model, and I only got about 10 hours on it, before the trimmer head motor began smoking, and died right then! It was only about 7 months old! Took it back to Home Depot, and then bought the Milwaukee Trimmer! I’m so happy, now!

Bought the Milwaukee yard tool combo set shown in the video. The articulating hedge trimmer failed about 10 or so months into it. Wasn't used to heavily. But, it took a ton of phone calls & emails to get it replaced under warranty 3 months after initial warranty claim. Pretty much the same time frame for the HD9 battery that failed about a year into it. Quite dissatisfied with their warranty service department as a whole. I will say the string trimmer is somewhat a beast for DIY homeowners. The edger is ok. The little chain saw is equally ok. But the hedge trimmer is sometimes a struggle even with the HD9 battery. In fact I was told by Milwaukee many of their HD9 batteries are problematic (failures) and my failed unit will be replaced with an HD8. I almost lost it on the phone...they sent me an HD9...lol I have a number of DeWalt DIY tools (no specific yard tool type) that seem to last beyond their intended life expectation.

Something I haven't heard anyone talk about is the motor location on different brands. The Milwaukee is a multitool, so the motor is in back turning a drive shaft for the cutting attachments. Dedicated trimmers have the motor located on the cutting head right where the action is. If it's not kept clean at the vents, it may overheat in the case of commercial use. I've heard some say the Milwaukee vibrates and I'm sure it does due to the turning shaft. I've looked closely at the Milwaukee at Home Depot, and I must say I'm impressed compared to other brands. Nothing wrong with DeWalt though; I have many of their power tools. I also like the "speed feed" style head.

I just bought the M18 Fuel trimmer, and I don't have any of the batteries. I've dealt with the battery issue before, I have lots of C3 19.2v devices. I last year began some Dewalt 20v and 60v tools, and discovered an adapter that lets me use the 20v batteries in my C3 devices. I bought a similar adapter to run this Milwaukee trimmer. After clearancing the plastic bottom cover for the Dewalt battery, it runs great. I have the 20v Dewalt trimmer, and that one is much less powerful than a gas powered trimmer. I used it once and decided it'd only be useful in an emergency if my gas trimmer wasn't available. I let a neighbor borrowed it and he never got it back to me. So now I wanted a replacement, and the M18 Fuel trimmer will be good enough for home use. The Dewalt has the motor down on the trimmer head, that's a bad place for a motor to ingest debris.

I converted from the Ryobi gas trimmer to the DeWalt and it accepts all of the Ryobi attachments like the edger, pruner and others, because it uses the standard Click-it system. I don’t think Milwaukee uses the same system so my attachments wouldn’t work with it. Just got the new DeWalt hand pruner and it works with battery from the trimmer and works great.

The Dewalt made my uncle eat crow. He didn't think it could hang with his gas powered trimmer, he admitted he was wrong and said he'd use it anywhere he'd use a gas power trimmer. He actually said the same about the 60v Dewalt chainsaw. I love their 60v platform.

Hi TRZ, The DeWalt stringer can't have attachments because their motor is at the bottom and the cable runs through the shaft to the main switch on top. On the milwaukee the motor is on the top which there are no cables running through the shaft which allows for attachments.

Milwaukee has a propriety attachment coupling, you can't use regular 1/4 inch square drive attachments. Dewalt uses a regular 1/4 square drive on DCST972B so you can use your old attachments. I don't know what Milwaukee was thinking with that quickloc system, but it sucks.

My dewalt 60V just burned out today on its 3rd day. Mind you I used 2 9AH batteries each day nonstop. I noticed a smell today and some smoke, so I gave it a break, but then it wouldn’t start up again after… I was really putting it through its paces though. Perhaps I should have been using a bushwhacking attachment for much of the work (that’s the part where it died). While it worked, I did like it. The only complaint I had was the guard, which was easily changed out with a bigger one.

I heard that Milwaukee went to MIT to design their battery system. Now you have a 18v that will fit in a hundred tools and can compete with 60v systems. Always buy genuine Milwaukee batteries. EBe careful of lookalikes. I have batteries that came with my Milwaukee dill set 18+ years ago and I still use them. No, they won’t run a trimmer or saw, but I can use the in my flashlight and even the drills. Though the run time has shortened after all those years.

Unscrew the two little screws holding that metal string cutter tab. Flip the tab around. A dab of blue loctite back on the threads and screw it back down. Now you have a 16" cut instead of 14". Then, put some good .095 line in there. Talk about a cutting machine! It's unstoppable! .095 in the dewalt is beast too. I cut through some thick bush in the ditches I was sure it couldn’t handle and holly smokes was I wrong, I continue to surprise myself with that thing. If you’re just looking for an absolute hoss of a weed eater then get the dewalt but if your looking for an all in one lawn tool go with the Milwaukee. Only draw back I’ve found with the dewalt is the guard is pretty small so you are going to get covered in grass. I’ve also found you can take the quick feed head off and use the bolt inside to hold a circular saw blade and use it for bushwhacking, I’m sure that’s not even remotely dangerous..

I own the Milwaukee trimmer and it is a beast. I would be surprised if the DeWalt is as powerful. As far as power, only one or two trimmers I have read about are in the same league. I own the edge trimmer and the hedge trimmer attachments. I am sure that DeWalt is a good tool, but I am betting the Milwaukee is better. The only problem I have had with the Milwaukee is that the 9 AmpHr battery over-heated when I cut weeds over three feet tall in my backyard. But that only happened once and it has not repeated. So possibly it was an anomaly. The only real con for this trimmer is that the M18 batteries are expensive.

How bad is the vibration on the Milwaukee? Is it as bad as some say?
@franklong6269
@franklong6269 2 жыл бұрын
@@joet_swbo101 Hmmm, honestly I was surprised to read about this issue. I have not noticed excessive vibration. I have not used an Ego or DeWalt trimmer, and so I can't compare those trimmers firsthand. Any trimmer that has the motor in the handle is going to have the potential to vibrate more than a trimmer that has the motor at the end of the trimmer - that's just physics. However, I don't think my Milwaukee trimmer vibrates excessively. In fact, I never noticed any vibration issues as I have used it. The only way I know about this issue is because I have read about it in SOME reviews. I suspect that some reviewers are being very picky. If you are cutting heavy brush, it won't matter what brand of trimmer you use. They all will "vibrate" when you cut heavy brush. However, because the Milwaukee trimmer is so powerful, it cuts through heavy brush very quickly. The only issue I have had with it is that the battery overheated once when I was cutting 4' tall weeds. I would guess that cutting such dense brush would cause any battery trimmer (an most gas trimmers) to overheat - but that is speculation on my part.

Also there's a couple of reviews on KZbin where they test the Ego and Milwaukee and the Milwaukee has more power and run time then the Ego.. Plus you get more with the Milwaukee Quik Lok system, you can always buy more attachments like the trimmer, pole saw, hedge trimmer, edge trimmer, plus you can use the M18 battery on any of there 100+ Milwaukee M18 tools, can you do that with Ego's battery line all they make is outdoor stuff.

Basically? In my 20 years of experience with battery tools, at present: Dewalt’ design team is best. The tools look cooler. But Milwaukee builds tools better. And charge more yes. But I’ve got batteries (m12 and m18) from 8 years ago that are still good and fit in current gen tools. That alone got my respect... and loyalty. (I mean, they could have easily changed the battery design when they came out with their fuel line. But they didn’t. I can still use 6-8 year old batteries on current tools). Dewalt is always changing their battery scheme. So you have to buy an adaptor? Or change tool lines completely. That being said, I own a complete 28v Nano phosphate Dewalt kit from 2010 with 6 batteries. Cost me about 3k. And they still work. Minus one battery. That’s a 10 year old system. (Recip saw, circular, jig, drill and grinder. But that’s all the tools they made for that line and then they abandoned it. So as of now, my practical mind has realized that it’s all about the batteries. How long they last and their compatibility with updated tools. So for me, Milwaukee is the better choice.
