Very good list - Particularly once you combine the two. Some of the misses have been mentioned in other comments. Other basics you need as a home owner/DIYer: 1 - Tool bag or bucket: Something to keep your tools in 2 - Knife: Utility knife with replaceable blades is indispensable 3 - Rubber Mallet - For tasks like putting together furniture, a mallet is indispensable 4 - Allen wrench set - For set screws in towel bars, faucets, and furniture assembly/disassembly 5 - Non-contact voltage detector or clamp meter: To make sure that the circuit you're about to work on is not live 6 - Right angle or stubby screwdriver(s), for those hard to reach screws under door handles and similar difficult to access areas 7 - Pry bar(s). There are some things that require a little more finesse or persuasion than a claw hammer can muster. Baseboards and doors are best dealt with appropriately sized pry bars. 8 - Mechanical drain cleaners: The number one issue I deal with is slow/stopped drains. Having some sort of tool to clear drains starting with the $3 plastic drain snakes and building from there, is invaluable.

Oh, I missed your list initially as it wasn't expanded but I completely agree with all the above. However, with number 1 I have to disagree slightly. How many of us have several tool bags and find themselves somehow using a shoebox or shipping box from a recent purchase to store your tools. It can be just me!

A small 1/4 inch hex ratchet that takes screwdriver bits for use as a 90 degree in tight spots.

Roger, as a jack of all trades, I have to admit I have a new obsession, so, I understand your point of view. Somehow, I've started collecting USA made adjustable wrenches, adjustable spud wrenches and pipe wrenches. No kidding, I was removing compression fittings with a 1930s JP Danielson (pre-Crescent wrench) and a Challenger (pre-Proto) Clik-Stop with an antique Wright pipe wrench in the bag.

A stud finder. I have a magnetic one. Also, a five-in-one tool I got after I saw a painter using one.

Magnetic one is the only one I'll use unless your super gentle they just don't hold up problem is magnetic one is so small it's hard to find in the tool bags sometimes

Ive been buying tools for my adult kids now for Christmas. They arent DYI very much, but you can buy some good multi sets so you have them for "in case" Great video.

Closet auger and or hand powered tub snake Sawzalls are handy to but take practice to cut straight

I know it's old fashioned. But the old bit and brace. You never have to worry about batteries being dead. You can drive screws with them. And you can teach your kids and grandkids how to do repairs. Even the old egg beater drill.

Couple other things I'd add to the list that I haven't seen so far: 1. Punch/Chisel set. Door hinges, small nails, and anything else where you can't get the hammer in there directly. 2. Rotary tool / Dremel. So many small things that could take a specialized tool but can just be done with this instead. 3. Impact driver. Especially with cheap screws, it will prevent so much frustration from stripping them. 4. Propane torch. A bit more niche, but sometimes you need heat or fire. Consumables I always want handy: * Zip ties. Solve so many problems. * Gaff tape. Way better than Duck tape. * Screw, bolt, washer, and nut assortments in metric and SAE. Plus a wood/metal screw assortment. Unless you're perfect you will loose one, and having to stop a whole project / furniture assembly to spend far $5 at Home Depot on what would be a $0.01 screw in an assortment sucks. * 99% isopropyl alcohol. It will clean things soap/water won't, and since it's hydrophobic is awesome for dealing with water where you really don't want it. Anyone who knows anything about or uses electronics should have a bottle. * Wago lever nuts. Solves so many problems, and means the house is less likely to burn down from bad wire nut use. Or worse, electrical tape...

The type of material your house is built from will determine many of your tools. If your house is made from masonry, reinforced concrete and steel, you need a good sized SDS power drill for getting through walls and ceilings. I have used one for about 40 years and could not imagine doing without it. Most countries in the world use masonry (bricks or blocks) to build houses. Even in the US, at least the basement is built from blocks or concrete.

I’ve got more tools than I know what to do with, my most recent purchase was a drill snake and wouldn’t you know it, it came in hand just a few short days later. My shower drain was clogged up real bad and my little hair grabber didn’t get anything and my plunger wasn’t doing much so I sent that down the drain a few feet and pulled out a whole Wookiee worth of hair from my roommate. Started draining immediately. It’s nice that it’s already paid for itself and I didn’t need to call a plumber or a drain company to bring their snake out

Does a vacuum cleaner count as a tool? Also, I would add a paintbrush. Oh, and a bucket. Dang, so many basic tools required, how do you cut it to just 13?

In my opinion here are some essential missing items that most people are missing it seems. 1. Utility Knife... hello! 2. Milwaukee Dipped Knit Gloves - Amazing for protecting your hands while doing all sorts of tasks and provides extra grip. Useful on those stubborn jar lids too. 3. Now hear me out! A 3M Respirator Mask. Essential for cleaning up those human and animal fluid dookie 💩mishaps in the house. I know how critical this piece of kit is from recent experience. Also comes in handy when using your circular saw to prevent inhalation of harmful micro saw dust. You not only prevent gagging during cleanups, but you also save your lungs from early onset bronchitis. I think it's a win-win! Best 30 dollars I've ever spent. I guess it could also be used when spraying bug spray, painting, glue ups or when working with just about any household chemical. Also, you feel like you are part of the Breaking Bad universe so it's just a cool thing to have. I concur with the comments regarding a stud finder and changing the putty knife to just a 5 in 1 Painters Tool.

A shovel could probably be handy. Shoveling snow or ice off the driveway or if you need to make a hole for planting. I use a shovel more than I expected to. Especially if you’ve got small pets and need to bury them.

@@RogerWakefield oh wall socket screw cap , cabinet shelve clips. Thickness of poles or pipes or wires just to name a few. It helps when you need to order stuff like this online and don’t know where to start and they you the specs in MM metrics

@@RogerWakefield I had a leatherman sideclip years ago. second best model of leatherman made. it was slim, and it carried easily in a back pocket. left it at the far end of a crawl, and thought I could replace it more easily than going after it. the new model as twice as big. now I carry a Micra and it does everything I wouldn't be going to get s better tool for, anyway.

@@RogerWakefield farmer find them to terrific welding. You can open virtually anything with them, especially useful when you can’t grip metal sheets, just clamp them on, even use them as a coat hook

In my opinion I think that the recepticle tester would be far more useful to the average home owner than a multimeter. I say that because probably 9/10 people have absolutely no clue how to properly use a multimeter and don't know what the different functions do.

Check out the new Bambu Lab printers. Actually in the last year, almost all 3D Printers are significantly faster than they used to be. I can print a smaller part in under 10 minutes.
