$350 for the Ko-ken socket set. That same size set from Snap-on is $780. 58mm socket from Snap-on is $160. Real tools cost money. Chinese junk doesn't get you far in a career. Serious technicians and mechanics invest in the tools they use to earn a living.

I bought my father a Koken socket set back in 1968 in NZ. It has a set of BSF, BSW and AF sockets as well as a ratchet, t-bar, breaker bar, six and eight inch extensions, spark plug socket all 1/2 inch. No metric in the set. I inherited the set back from my Dad when he died. The set has been worked hard over the years. We split other manufacturers sockets on quite a few occasions but never Kokens. Still in the original steel box. Been absolutely brilliant.

Ko-Ken USA should seriously consider some sort of sponsorship and or get you working in their promotional videos and trade shows. You are right behind their products and you don't even work for them. Genuine enthusiasm for a product is hard to beat.
@Cooliemasteroz
@Cooliemasteroz 3 жыл бұрын
That’s interesting that you mention the quality is like the US used to be, I can remember as an apprentice here in Australia back in the early eighties a trades man mentioned that America made good tools and over the following years I took notice of tool quality and where there came from. He was right they were good as was English and Australian though I think in general American tools had the edge back then. I’ve noticed that some things from Britain are not as good as they used to be and Australia doesn’t even make socket sets or anything else anymore.

Australian tools are piece of shit, especially those like Kinchorme advertising as an Australian Owned Brand but most of them are made in China or rebranded Chinese products but selling as an Australian Made products price.

I like Tone tools too. My favourite is their extra long straight wrench. In fact in Japan, Tone and KTC extra long straight wrench is considered as the first class quality and ergonomics which I really agree. (Better than Snap-On in my opinion in terms of feel and nice to hands factor). I also found KTC drum brake spring tool very useful for the hand brake on Subaru. But I have to say, you Americans make some really great tools. My favourite of the favourite is OTC hub puller to push the spline out of the hub. That tool is just awesome. No more headaches from rusted spline.

Thank you, MrSubaru1387, I really enjoyed your presentation of Ko-ken tools. You „encouraged“ me to buy this ½“ Z-series set (together with a ¼“ and 3/8“ set of standard series) here in Germany and I‘m very impressed by the quality and appearance. To my surprise not the online-shops but the local tool retailer offered (by far) the best price: 270 Euro [328 $] for this ½“ set, incl. 19% German VAT. He obtained the tools from Ko-ken Europe in Luxemburg. Got addicted now, I‘ll buy further Ko-ken articles especially since the price is much lower than comparable parts from German premium brands.

I have a 1/4 and a 3/8 set and I’m very pleased so far. I have the 1/2 set coming next week. I’ve been in the trade for over 30 years using Snap-on tools most of that time, I feel Koken is possibly better then my beloved Snap-on sockets and ratchets. Time will tell but Koken specializing in sockets and such is what put Snap-on on the map. Koken with the Z series is quite a innovation, you won’t get it until you wrench with them.

@@markfryer9880 the people we work with need to bring their own tools ;-) One shop i worked in, we had two guys with no "feel" for tools; one of them believed that you torqued a bolt until it groaned, "i don't need no torque wrench! " , and one guy, hammered on a pump shaft to get the bearing to come out, hammered until the casing broke! Same guy, another occasion, stripped bolt head, applied "vise grip", and, again, a hammer...until he broke the vise grips, and tore the head off the bolt...these guys were not open for "can I borrow your wrench/ratchet...?" on pain of death! I have an issue right now though, my NA EJ25 wouldn't run after letting sit for a while. I found oil in the spark plug wells and figured that was the issue. I proceeded to change my valve cover gaskets, tube seals, spark plugs, and coil wires and it still wouldn't start. Yes, unfortunately, most of them are not made of metal anymore but you can get them in any size and they are just as presentable as Ko-ken. And I would not be surprised if Hazet (and Stahlwille and Gedore) was offering tools like that before Ko-ken company ever existed. If Koken was easier to acquire in the US, I think I would choose them over snap on. I'm not saying they are better than snap on, i just like how much thought they put into their tools and packaging.

hello this is not a question about tools I have a 2015 Subaru legacy 2.5i my question is are the timing chains good for the life of the car as long as the oil is changed regularly any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Roy A
@MrSubaru1387
@MrSubaru1387 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, or at least they're supposed to be. Subaru rates their chains as lifetime or (300k) miles. That said, chain tensioners, guides, etc can break, fail, get noisy in that time and need service or replacement. But no, no set replacement interval like the old timing belts.

Mr. Subaru, I ordered the lug nut extentions from amazon usa but i 100% sure it came from Japan cc DHL delivered on sunday. i am a Subaru mechanic and i am trying to order TONE PG86S. However i keep getting this "Sorry, this item can't be shipped to your selected address. Learn more. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order. " even though i already selected outside japan address. fyi i have set up my amazon japan account and log in. How did you work around international shipments?

I had no issue shipping it to South Carolina. Maybe see if there's another seller selling it. I've had to change sellers before to find one to ship to the US.

This is a different issue, but can you “ PLEASE “ do a video about common problem “” If you have the chance “” about Subaru Ascent 2019/2020, like the transmission recall problem ? even just a talk and guidance about owning a Subaru Ascent. I ‘m debating buying a SUV like Subie Ascent or Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot good for snow or rain weather. Thanks Mr. Subaru 1387 for your time and kindness. 🙏❤️

I'll see what I can do. Not too familiar with them. But I've seen the trans issues, as well as issue with the engine smoking on start up. There were the propshaft recalls and the weld issues on the first batch as well.

If you're committed to one brand, for all, it has to be TONE. They have a full tool line up where Ko-ken is mainly socketry items. If you are just looking for socket and ratchet items, Ko-ken hands down. 👍🏻

@@MrSubaru1387 The number of times these have gotten the job out of being absurdly stuck is not small. Have used them on brake lines to injector lines to power steering lines and lots more. They work where a crowfoot cannot fit and can save an enormous amount of time and effort. BTW, Snap-On makes a copy. Likely under license from Koken.
