Hi everyone join me in todays video as I show you my firewood hauling setup! I continiously upgrade and change around what I need and use but this is the basic overall kit you need to haul firewood out your property! If you are thinking of heating with wood or managing your property here is a good basic video of what you need to be safe and efficient out in the woods hauling firewood! Thanks for watching!

I have a similar setup, on a simpler version. Simply because I am never far from the garage while cutting wood. Example, axe and second saw stays in the garage. I put all that stuff in a large plastic storage container, so I can empty the trailer quickly on the worksite. Then the trailer is ready to load and haul logs quickly. Then the plastic bin follows me where I cut wood. I tend to stay in the same area for the day. At the very end of the day, I put the plastic container on top of the last load of logs to bring back home. Then put back the storage container in the garage. Thanks for sharing Jay!

Hey Joe! Thanks for sharing! Like the setup! I work father from the house so I need to pack everything lol I may invest in a large bin like you said! Since my stuff is all just tossed in the trailer!

Good video Jay. I have a very similar set up. I also found it easy to have a small tool bag for my files, etc. then I put my chaps, ear muffs, wedges, and tool bag in a milk crate. It’s easier for me as I am often working out if the back of my truck then putting wood in the trailer. I definitely recommend 2 saws as well. It may seem over kill to some but it does help. My newest saw was a Husky 460 Rancher with the 24” bar, again, I am like you and prefer that saw for bucking. The longer bar saves your back for sure.
@HomesteadJay
@HomesteadJay 4 жыл бұрын
Hey crazy! Thanks for tuning in! Glad you have a similar setup that works! That 460 sounds like a nice saw. I’ve heard good stuff about that series! I am going to make a video with the longer bar because it’s been a back saver! I’ve been clearing an acre here on the homestead and I cut hours at a time with no complaints! Thanks for watching and chatting!

Good video. It looks like your med kit is still in the original wrapping. I would suggest after multiple deployments is to remove it from the original wrapping and figure out how you want it set up inside the pouch. This is because all your fine motor skills are lost when you're stressed.

Hey pdx! First of all thank you for your service!! I am thankful for guys like you because I’m able to do what I do because of the sacrifice you guys make to keep this country free and great. Second of all that’s a great point, they call it a “quick rip” plastic wrap when I was reading instructions that you can rip open super easy but I’ll take your word to open the package so everything is that much quicker to get at. God forbid I ever need it. Thank you again! Catch ya on the next video!

Good morning Sir ! Yes safety glass are often miss, the helmet screen shield is only built for not having saw dust into your face and not for stopping hard object surface that a chainsaw can throw at you or going thru the screen shield easily into your eye. Yes in deed, pocket kit medical kit !!! LOL Yes I have a girlfriend who also is a nurse too !!! LOL Great video, I'm still missing wedges !!! I think I will have new welding project about a new version like your Log jacks !! You are a very well equipped lumberjack !!! If I may suggest, installing an outdoor vise direct on you trailer for sharpening or holding your chainsaw for emergency or daily maintenance ? My father had one permanently welded on is Massey Harris 30 tractor and was very useful for more than the chainsaw. Keep up the good work Sir and that was a oustanding video Sir !!! Cheers !!!

@HomesteadJay 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Dave! Thanks for tuning in! Glad you enjoyed it! I learned the hard way the screen wasn’t a full protection lol I like the glasses better for sure. I may go to a wire mesh goggle because the glass fogs when it’s warm out! I’d love to see you make a log jack like that! I know you can do it, you are quite the fabricator! I like the idea of a vice mounted on the ATV or Trailer! Such a good idea! Would have never thought of that! Hmmmm sounds like I need to find a mini vice and get to installing it! Thanks for tuning in and stay safe!

Hey Dave! Glad you are going after another welding project! Glad to help! I realized the face shield wasn’t working well cause I felt it annoying to constantly flip it up to look up and see if the tree is starting to fall as you are making the back cut. I also didn’t like how bulky it was walking through brush where it would catch everything. One last thing was it just felt bulky to me idk I wasn’t a fan! I’m going to get a pair of bugs goggles like the wildland fire fighters wear! If they work out there then they can work for me LOL.

How do you move after you get all that stuff on ? If I had all that safety stuff hanging from me, I would not have to worry about the tree falling on me, because I couldn't move to cut it down. and when it starts to fall, I want to be able to move out of the area fast. I have been running regular gas in my saw for almost 20 years now, with no problem, also the gas in that can, here where I live is about $24 a gallon. I am 74 years old now, and every summer I still cut my own fire wood, I work alone in the woods, and don't have to worry about where anybody else is when it is time to drop the tree, as soon as it starts cracking, I move out to my safety zone, and let gravity take over, I am in no hurry, I can wait for it to fall and gives me time to get where I can get a good view as it crashes to the ground, that is the fun part. LOL Then the work starts.

Hey Bruce! Thanks for chiming in! Im glad you have stayed safe for so long! The chaps are a tad heavy but better than an chainsaw injury to the leg! The belt isnt bad either with all the gear on it! I wear it because it has my medical kit on it (most important) thing if you ask me! I agree with the fuel. No ethanol fuel for me is 1 hour away unless i buy the 24 dollar gallons which isnt happening! Thanks for tuning in and like myself I work alone in the woods so be safe! Thanks for watching! I have fun with the channel I’m not pushing just to get sponsors I just love showing what I do around here. If anyone approached me I’d consider it but I’m not gonna sell my soul and be under someone’s guidance for how I make my videos. I don't want to sound like a troll, but it's misleading to call 2 axes and a pickaroon, an ATV, and a utility trailer as needs. Yes indeed you can do firewood any different ways this video was just "basics" to help. Pickaroons are short money and help grab and move the logs id highly recommend one.
