Great video. Little advice: I would throw a little paint on your trailer and vise stand. Looks more professional. You never get a 2nd chance at 1st impression

Then again he’s in Hawaii and I’m guessing no two welders on any one island lives next door to another so people hiring welders probably don’t have enough options to worry about first impressions!😂 I mean, jeeezus Christ they won’t even fill or exchange owner 125 bottles there!🙄

Nice advice for someone wanting to start a welding business. You have pretty much everything you need to do just about anything needing welded. Get a small 145 to 180 amp welder on wheels you can get closer to a job your trailer won't reach. Just some kind advise. You'll do just fine. With what you have.

Hi, Here in the Uk it rains too often to get away with an open deck trailer or a welding rig like you guys have in North America. I run my mobile repairs out of an old livestock trailer because it has a roof to keep my gear dry. Most of my videos have hardly any editing and include various subjects from reviews to welding to general repairs and messing about.

Here in Hilo Hawaii we get 130 inches a year of rain and it’s not cute drizzly stuff ...it pounds! I’m curious what others in wet climates do to keep rods dry besides the obvious closed sealed container? In my home shop they live in a closed cabinet with an electric gun safe heater/dehumidifier rod. But any other ideas for mobile?

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on my own mobile welding bussiness. I have everything ready to rip except my old lincoln engine drive took a crap. Didnt want to finance anything, but gonna do a miller bobcat 260. Thanks! I have a very similar set up.👍

My dad used to own and operate a farm repair business in a fairly small town, so he had a lot of work, but it was mostly a summer and fall business so he struggled. Now I'm thinking about starting his business up again.

Great video, sub^. Ive got a ranger 225 and was wondering what is a better more economical method on mig welding with the 225. Get the mig accessory kit or run a separate mig and hook to generator?
@JonDingle
@JonDingle 4 жыл бұрын
Well I do mobile farm welding repairs but as yet cannot afford a welder generator/petrol engined welder. So I run extension leads to my inverter welder for a welding job on a farm. If the job is small enough I will use a farm workshop. I rent my bottles, it is cheaper and easier to get. I run Propane but thinking about going to Acetylene. Great video and somewhat more polished than my videos!

I'm thinking about starting slow and just getting a generator to power my current everlast welders until I get my feet off the ground. Got a tig, stick, mig and plasma cutter so should be good for awhile.
@alemunoz298

Richard Smart I got a similar set up Everlast 160sti stick/tig but you have to run a clean power generator or it will mess up and void the warranty Im running a 11,000 powerhorse for it to run on the 210
@notsure7874
@notsure7874 4 жыл бұрын
@@alemunoz298 I was gonna say - inverters are picky about their power. I was looking at getting an everlast and a 10kw genny, but to get a "clean power" genny looks to be about 5 grand. There really isn't such a thing as a "clean power" generator, it's the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) they're looking for - and they're looking for under 5%. From what I hear - inverter welders REALLY don't like inverter generators. Maybe a pure sine wave inverter genny, but it would ALSO have to be under 5% THD. For what an acceptable genny costs, I can damn near get a Trailblazer and be done with it. At that point you can start to make other choices to get other processes - like A/C tig, mig, spool guns, etc - and that would be determined by what you want it for. You could get a multiprocess and use it for A/C tig, and mig near the truck, or you could get a suitcase mig ... you have a lot more options at that point, and a lot easier setup to use. I.E: Do you spend the jack on a suitcase mig, or do you get a multiprocess with mig + ac tig + plasma but you can only use it near the truck? If you spend 5k on a genny you kind of blew the load on having to use the genny to power equipment that isn't really as good - and it's a clusterfludge of 5 different boxes and a genny ...
@alemunoz298
@alemunoz298 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I did plenty of research before I bought my generator it’s less than 5%THD it’s a powerhorse 11k but it did cost around 1600

@@alemunoz298 I didn't look around all THAT much, I looked at a couple, and then google searched for one under 5% and found 2 - both were about 4500 - 5k which is when I stopped looking.
@notsure7874
@notsure7874 4 жыл бұрын
@@alemunoz298 I just looked at that brand - Northern has an 10kw for 1850 and it doesn't look like an inverter genny - I think the bigguns are generally not inverters - which is great - and it does say > 5% THD - Thanks man! As expensive as that is - its a HELL of a lot less than 6k for a Trailblazer.

Certification is a very misunderstood thing. Most companies/industries that require you to be certified to weld for them, will make you take a certification test administered by them or a testing lab. If you pass, you’re certified, but ONLY to that company. It won’t do you any good anywhere else! Most tests are done following AWS (American Welding Society) standards.
@chrism840
@chrism840 3 жыл бұрын
@@tomt9543 I think you misunderstand how certs work. You can get certs through AWS, CWB, and one more I can’t think of but you get a card that says what your certified for. Once you have those they go with you forever provided to still perform welds regarding to what ever certs you have to keep them up to date. Now to get certs this way is expensive but those are yours not through a company, that doesn’t mean you don’t have to test out for jobs though. Actually it really doesn’t mean shit any more because you can pass a test but be a horrible welder in the field and company’s as well as supers have started to realize this. “Certs” you get through testing out for a company or per job are not even certs they just mean you passed that employers test for that job or jobs.
@tomt9543
@tomt9543 3 жыл бұрын
@@chrism840 Exactly! Another common misconception, and this is widespread, is people confusing “qualified” and “certified “! Qualified, in the grand scheme of things, can be as simple as someone in management saying you are qualified, and possibly never having taken any kind of welding test! I know of several companies that do this! True certification, as you pointed out, is a test that proves you are capable of welding to a specific standard using a Welding Procedure Specification or WPS, and can produce the specified results. The whole subject is a jungle! I’ve heard that the Canadian tests are even tighter than the AWS!

The torch might be more versatile than a plasma, but there are things you can do with a plasma that you cannot do with a torch too. You're not cutting stainless or aluminum with oxy fuel.

he is talking about carbon arc air or gouging. it uses a electrode, similar to a stick welder and compressed air to gouge out metal or bad/old welds. KZbin search "carbon arc air" and you will fin plenty of videos on it. Thermal lance cutting is similar but for cutting very thick metal, some cool videos on that too.
