Let’s just hope they listen to the emails we send and get the 200 grain 10mm moving 100-150 fps faster from a 4-4.5” barrel. 200gr at 1250fps minimum is ideal. Then they would be the king of 10mm “JHP” without question. It would be real 10 energy with IMO perfect penetration and expansion with great barrier performance. Same with 380. Just need to see better terminal performance, again IMO. I’d like to see a minimum of 16” in gel through clothing with their expected expansion and disruption. For now I can’t see using any 380 EDC ammo other than UW XD or XP. I believe the HST can be made to do better in those two calibers “if” Federal decides to make it happen.

@@user-dm4yx3iz5f I did too. HST does perform extremely well in the tests! Have several boxes and filled mags. Same with the UW XD. And more with the UW coated hardcast. But for some reason I seem to keep carrying the UW 200 grain XTP. Force of habit I suppose. Lol. That tends to ride onboard the G20 or G29 with Xtreme Defender in the main backup pocket mag. How do you like your G20? I recently finally changed from a heavily used Gen 3 to a new 4. As predicted, as soon as I had it set up the way I like, the Gen 5 hit the shelves! But it’s my main and most trusted EDC. Never had to use this new one in self defense, only forced to draw it once. Never had to use it on a critter either, but I’m confident it will work 100% just like the Gen 3. I’ve never had any Glock that failed to function perfectly out of the box and also after being beaten up for years.

I only have two and don't carry it often because I prefer concealed carry, but the Bianchi leather OWB holster is sturdy and beautiful. The thumb strap was a bit snug but a bit of oil and stretching made it work. I bought it ~6 years ago for $65. I also have one of those cheapo nylon shoulder holster rigs from Amazon with two pouches for speed loaders. Great for vibes, but for actual carry I don't know. I think it was $25, maybe $30.

I would LOVE to see a (TRUE) 10mm bonded HP like this one, a Gold Dot, or Winchester Defender, in a 500 or 1,000 Rd case lot, at a discount. As always the best most uniform ammo testing around! With the same gel and clothing barriers plus retesting ammo to give some a second chance, these tests help each person decide which ammo suits their particular needs. If companies are intelligent enough to watch and read, and care about their customers, these videos can also help them to improve. If they choose not to improve after seeing their shortcomings, then these will definitely help people know where to spend their money and what companies to cut loose. No one needs to carry ammo for EDC self defense that might be likely to fail or underperform. Only buy what’s expected to work and passed 3rd party tests repeatedly ✅

.357 magnum has been the benchmark against which all other defensive rounds have been measured for a long time, and this is showing us why. Not only was the terminal performance of the bullets excellent, but the exterior ballistics were also interesting. The Taurus 605 averaged 1057 feet per second at 50 yards for an average Ke50 of 381. That's in the neighborhood of what a lot of spicy standard pressure and lower end +P 9mm loads do at the muzzle, and the .357 magnum is pulling that off at 50 yards out of a 2" barrel. The GP-100, on the other hand, really showed what the .357 magnum is. It averaged 1196 feet per second at 50 yards. That gives us an average Ke50 of 489 energy foot pounds. It also gave us a low Ke50 of 476 energy foot pounds and a high of 504. Given that the performance threshold for "real 10mm ammo" is 444 energy foot pounds at 50 yards, this stuff is doing 10mm things better than most alleged 10mm ammo. Thanks for the testing and data, Tools.

Great performance! Gel isn't as dense as flesh and there are bones in mammals so I'm not concerned about the 22''+ of penetration. I also see this as a good deer hunting load out of a 4-6'' barrel

It's almost a waste testing HST. It's just perfection EVERY time. No matter the caliber, no matter the weight, no matter the gun. On top of all that, you can buy HST 9mm for less than $0.60 per round. Probably ought to order another case of 124 gr 9mm HST now that I mention it..... lol

I like HST in 9 and 45 for personal defense against human threats. From dozens of gel test videos I've watched, I have never seen a 9mm HST over-penetrate (more than 18") or under-penetrate (less than 12"). But for personal defense against human threats, the 357 Magnum HST penetrates too deep for my personal comfort and peace of mind. I would take it into the woods, though.

Cylinder gap imperfection is causing that drop off in velocity. Mark that cylinder on future tests, and you will see that's where the drop-off is at.

You know, I'm beginning to think that if Federal slapped a sticker on a bottle of cod liver oil that said "HST," that it would make it taste good. Thanks for video. I for one shouldn't be surprised but I'll be damned if I'm not still somewhat amazed they made that work THAT WELL and that consistently from both barrel lengths. It's unreal. (Except it's not.)

Seen few test and shoot more my owns, This is a great 357 round and if you see or test it you see it works great in different barrel lenght and velocity. I have Dan Wesson in factory 10” and 6” barrel and I made custom 3,25” barrel and HST always work, I think HST is new Remington sjhp😁

I've been running wad cutters in my snub nose, because I never thought hollow points would get enough speed up to expand out of a short barrel. I'll keep an eye out for these at my local shop.

I'd love to see tests of the 10mm hornady custom 155 gr. Xtp, lucky gunners 5 round average from a G20 was 1344 fps which is an average of 621 foot pounds energy. Its been a while since he tested them and would love to see an update so we could see if Hornady has kept it the same since thats what I carry. Fyi the box is marked 1410 fps from muzzle on my box I purchased a month ago. Thanks Tools and keep up the great work.
