@@ninjabreadman733 definitely. I'm convinced it helps them eating a varied diet and 'naturals' in the pond. Same with mass produced shrimp and prawns fed only pellets.

Cheers Gary, that's very kind of you. It's a nice feeling to be able to raise both crayfish and goats successfully now. As you know, it was far from easy in the earlier years.

Cool video, thanks. I remember as a kid many decades ago catching crayfish in the creaks. They're all gone now. Filled or too polluted. One memory my grandkids may never have of their own. But who knows, perhaps all find a place where they still exist out here so they can give it a try and make some fun memories for themselves. Enjoy your evening.
@TLFarm2 ай бұрын
Cheers Steven. That's said to hear. They're such delicate creatures easily killed off by pollution. It's very much a concern about the risk to wild populations.

Interesting video. Do you ever get any time off? With goats delivering twins, collecting their food, general farm work...the fish, cooking, cleaning, filming....et al. Amazing!
@TLFarm2 ай бұрын
We sometimes nip out for a cheeky Amazon coffee or a meal out in town once a month or so. Filming can be a bit of a squeeze with editing usually done in the evening. The cleaning always comes last on the list lol.

You both work so hard! Great insight into what goes into farming crayfish. Very manual work. How much do you get for one?
@TLFarm2 ай бұрын
They're not a huge amount of work once you've got the set-up right. Just mainly tank cleans and separating berried females. Packaging orders are the main task. Our breeding sets are 1,000tbh.

Your comment about the male with the wider claws being a good trait. Is it really? I would have thought putting growth into the tail Vs claws would be more useful? Or do Thai’s like the claws? Selection for tail size seems more intuitive to me. Love the vids mate please keep it up
@TLFarm2 ай бұрын
Overall body size is definitely important, so it's not really a case of claws Vs tail. Most people prefer the tail because it's easiest to access but the claw meat is sweeter. If we could, we'd grow them with two heads because the fatty brains are the best lol.
@R420-h3z2 ай бұрын
@@TLFarm I do like me a deep fried prawn head… I assume it’s similar? Have you got a recipe? I haven’t seen you mention red claw brains in any vids.
@TLFarm2 ай бұрын
@@R420-h3z Toon doesn't use a specific recipe for them. They're just our favourite part to eat, whether it's tom yam soup or BBQ, they're fantastic. More fatty and sweeter than prawn heads.

Can I ask sir I saw your berried in the plastic bowl it's OK no to put some oxygen they will not die thanks
@TLFarm2 ай бұрын
Here you go Mr Deejay: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqKpZqivrsedo9Usi=oxSyqLq8A09mwjX5 We raise our crayfish in various different ways, some with and some without oxygen running. Basically, redclaw crayfish can tolerate low oxygen levels. But running air pumps helps to circulate the water and reduce the frequency of water changes a bit. Hope this helps you. Cheers Leigh and Toon.
