Bought this on cassette when it came out, I might have been 10 or 11. This song was my easy favorite, growing up in Northern New Hampshire any hip hop I could get my hands on, whether it be dubbing my cousins from Boston's cassettes, or every Tuesday going to the local radio shack where they would have a couple CDs, or Ames where they might have a couple hip hop cassettes in there with mix of country and rock. Hey you all, I get chills listening to this, because oakland has changed so much. This was a dope ass song that spoke to how oakland was during that Era. This may be off the subject, but at that time oakland was almost 50 percent black. My point is a Oakland is now just 21 percent black and declining rapidly. Yesterday short just got a three block stretch of east oakland renamed in his name. "Too $hort way". That's quite an honor for a rapper in a major city. I met him and ant banks at a studio called pajama on 4th street in the jack London Square district in 1996. My producer Jim Gardner introduced me to him and banks. What's weird is at that time I didn't know our birthday was the same day. Unfortunately my rap career went no where. He was so cool with me. He was wearing a presidential Rolex. And I find out 10 years later our birthday is the same day. I'm just 6 years older. Too bad him and hammer didn't hook up some way. Yes their styles were totally different, but hammers first two albums were more street than his future one, and I wish him and short could have worked together back then instead of feuding. The event yesterday was awesome. Ice cube was there, mistah fab was there. It was nice too see that event though oakland has changed a lot. "Gentrification ", too short was not forgotten.
