If you pay close attention at the very end of the video when Johnny is taking his son's hand after they go fishing you see a woman running toward them with a picnic basket in her hand and you know his prayer was answered and God did not take the girl. Makes the song a little easier to handle, but it still make me tear up even though I know she lives.

But at 8, Johnny did not want his dad to take this girl. Ten years later, now 18, his opinion of girls had changed dramatically. Now he realizes nothing he owns is worth losing her. Five years later, the timing is perfect as Tim sings, "and Johnny hit his knees," the actor playing the now 23-year old Johnny's knees hit the hospital floor and he realizes that his life is nowhere near as important as hers. The only redeeming part is that God may answer prayers but need zero of the things humans can offer...He don't make bargains. He answered the prayer as the final scene shows Johnny, now Johnny Sr., taking Johnny Jr fishing and who is there in the background? The girl, fully recovered and carrying a picnic basket.

While in the Marine Corps, whenever one of my younger Marines' wives would give birth I would give them the assignment to listen to this song while really listening to the lyrics without any distractions.
