This song came out when I was 14. I'm not a fan of country but my mom always had it playing non-stop. I must have heard the song a million times. It never affected me at all. Then much later in my early 30s I fell hard for a woman and was in a relationship with her for a few years. I couldn't believe how much I loved her. But that ended. Now I can't get through that last verse without at least one eye getting a little moist. Pisses me right off. Especially now that I know what kind of horrible person she ended up being. lol

First time I heard this I was lying in a tanning bed. ( Yeah, that was the 90s.) I hated the Country Music the salon played and usually tuned it out or fell asleep. This one immediately caught me up and I squawled like a baby. I came out of that room with my head down sobbing. I was devastated how touched I was. After that day, all I have to do is hear the intro and the tears just start flowing. No crying, just water streaming out of my eyes. The local grocery store always plays Country music. I'd have waterworks in the frozen foods that turned into icicles. Every single time.....😢😢😢😭😭😭

You guys provided the most insightful comments I have ever seen in a reaction to this song. You really got the composition. There's one thing that's not apparent here but answered in the official video. Tim McGraw leaves the story open-ended in the song, but in the end as Jonny is taking his son fishing, you see in the final second or two of the video, mom runs up carrying a picnic basket. So his prayers were answered.

Lori McKinney One of my favorite songs of all time. When I was introduced to my wife she did not even live in this country. The First time I called her she hung up on me. She said she was embarrassed of her English and that is why she did that. She waited a month before she told me she had two kids. She was afraid I would turn around and run, well I did not. I flew to the Philippines and we got married. When I got back home I was talking to a coworker how I was going to send money to my wife and kids. They said why are you sending money they are not your kids. That was the wrong answer I chewed him out and said yes they are. I call them my kids and they call me dad. We have been married now for 13 years and have five kids together. So now we have four girls and three boys. I am so glad she gave me the job.

Randy Travis Deeper than the Holler if you would be so kind. Alan Jackson as a follow up. Dont take the girl is probably one of the first songs I heard on the radio that made me sad. Granted I was like 10 so I wasnt sure why but it still holds a place in my heart for that reason. Pretty clever little song.
@zmanjace13646 жыл бұрын
As a quick aside for the Randy Travis suggestion (if you happen to read this) he had a massive stroke a few years back and lost the ability to speak. He has since worked fk get that back but they said he would never sing again which considering he had one of the most distinctive (and personally I think best) voices in country music it was quite a loss. A year or so ago he was put into the country hall of fame maybe (I might be wrong on that) he sang amazing grace for the first time in years. It's a very rough listen (read sad) if you heard him in his prime but amazing to see him try.

Y'all should do "Believe" by brooks and dunn. Cry every single time. And if you react to this song watch the video.

Maggie Redman I’ve requested that song more than a dozen times. Maybe one day they will get to it. I know they like Brooks and Dunn from other reviews

I agree! Watch the video! Granted you can feel the story just listening, but the video puts so much umph into it!

Gents, I want to see you guys really cry over a song. John Michael Montgomery's "The Little Girl" will give you the chills and make you shed some tears. I've listened to this song for years and have even sung it a time or two, and it chokes me up every single time. I think you guys are doing a great job at reacting to country music.

Great song! But, unless you're really familiar with all the background that is alluded to, it won't mean much. It's the same with George Jones's "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes?". If you're not well-versed in Country music history, you miss out on the true power of the lyrics.

You did the right thing. You gotta give everything a chance. Especially when it comes to art. Human expression and relating to one another is so important. Hip hop has some savage stories too. I like Dance With The Devil by Immortal Technique. All I ask from my musoc is that it feels authentic and real.

Your reaction to some funny country would be amusing. Brad Paisley's done quite a few, one of my favorite's, "Alcohol" - the lyrics and music are pretty impressive. Toby Keith's "Who's Your Daddy" and "I Wanna Talk About Me" are great. A really beautiful song, "If You Ever Have Forever In Mind" by Vince Gill, will blow your socks off. That voice, that music - powerfully evocative. Play it for any woman in your life and check out their reaction. It's amazing.
