Real practical engineering, surely the students learned loads during this exercise, love it! Requirements, planning, design, building, evaluation and team work.

This is an awesome experiment for all schools to try not just engineering courses... i wish my science classes included a lot more things like this instead of being talked at.

Finally a worthwhile prize from a school competition, a game console! Something that the students actually want and which would drive them, not some in-house winner certificate.

Quality, quantity in infrastructural DESIGNS should be reconciled as INVESTMENTS and NON CAPITALISTS, as INVESTMENTS are QUALITY BASED. ****IMPORTANT****

I suspect this competition was very popular with the students. Is it an annual event?

What kind of glue for this? PVA, Ca or something else?
Was going to say that in 2010 the PS3 prize already out for nearly 3ish years so was nothing special particularly in Japan but then I realized that those were PS3 slims which were less than a year from the competition date. Nice prizes back then.

Was there a specific amount (either by number or by weight) of toothpicks you could use? Did the structures have to be "at least" a specific height? What was the purpose of weighing in the constructs before the contest? Did they have to be lighter than some weight? Did the allowed size of the base have to meet some minimum or maximum area? (You'd think a large, wide base would have more stability.) Good video!

0:21 85g maximum weight

i think some of the answers you seek are at the start of this vid? base 200mm max, height must be 200 platform 1, 500mm plat2.. must be 85g or less.. they were issued toothpick but i assume they could 85g worth, minus glue weight.

Japanese brothers suffer a lot from earthquakes, this is very sad. I can develop a design for an earthquake-proof building. I am a student of the greatest engineer and architect in the universe, JESUS CHRIST.

@@FreeThinker0 In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, the Word was God, the Word was made flesh and dwelt among men. When Moses asked who he was at the burning bush he said "I AM" and many, many years later JESUS said "Before Abraham was, I AM" Yes, JESUS CHRIST IS GOD and the only way to understand that is by revelation. Without revelation you will think that JESUS is a messenger. Read the bible, and ask HIM for understanding. Also read the messages of the Prophet William Marrion Branham. the last prophet and forerunner of the second coming of JESUS CHRIST. God bless you

@@reidogarimpo1691 Jesus never explicitly claim that he is God. Just as the holy spirit, Jesus and God is a different entity. God is a divine entity which is not bound by rules and limitations put upon his creations.
