Hey Dan, free suggestion to solve this "Dreaded Estimates" issue for the summer: How about doing your Monday morning show with the estimates and then on Tuesday release a KZbin short with the corrections/accurate numbers? Part of your show's appeal, (at least to me) is your transparency and the integrity with which you speak on the numbers. I understand if it's too labor intensive, but maybe it helps grow the channel by drawing eyes (apparently people like shorts a lot these days). Anyway, love your content and can't wait for the summer movies wave to start.

I don’t know if posting YT Shorts would be a good idea for Dan’s channel. If Shorts aren’t immediately eye grabbing and attention keeping, they will flop and that means the algorithgm reccomends your channel less, including your long form videos. Dan excels at going into detail and his audience likes watching the full videos, because you can’t accurately convey an interesting box office story when restricted to 60 seconds. If you post on shorts, you are posting to a much wider audience which isn’t as likely to grab onto this kind of content. I think a better alternative would be a community post which just includes screenshots of the major updates to the charts.

Great list. I do however think that furiosa will be loved by critics and fans but will bomb just like the fall guy. Ana Taylor can't carry a franchise and and neither can Hemsworth other than thor. This is going to be like men in black 4-5 that Hemsworth was in also.

VERY high on Furiosa. I think Fury Road has garnered a huge fan base over the years moreso than the previous Mad Max films and that this will capture a lot of the Dune/Oppenheimer audience that cares about acclaimed directors and premium formats.

I don't know how Furiosa is going to do well at the box office as Fury Road despite huge acclaim and 6 Oscar wins, it unfortunately didn't do well at the box office so I don't see a lot of people tuning in for the movie at the theater (it'd be nice if a lot of people decided to support it when the movie turns out to be good)

Dan I’ve followed your predictions for the summer box office since the Screen Junkies show with Hal Rudnick! Insane to think I’ve watched you through my teen years and now I’m 24. You’ve always been one of my most trusted sources for intelligent, precise and passionate coverage and critique of the movie landscape. Thanks for your brilliant content! 😊 It’s interesting to me that in the lead up to Twisters 2 I’ve heard so many pundits of around your age cite a sentimental connection to the original. I find this odd because throughout years on Letterboxd, reading movie reviews, listening to movie podcasts etc. I’ve heard little to no mention of that film at all until the last few months, and I think it barely registers in the Gen Z consciousness. Does it really have such a hold on older millennial imagination?

I think it does. It was a huge movie in 1996, one of the first big CGI summer movies and had a great cast with likable characters. It was also one of the first (and for a while, few) movies to be released on DVD. For a certain age bracket, it’s a very beloved or at least fondly remembered movie.

35 year old here - the only disaster blickbuster I loved as a kid was Independence Day. But I do recognise Twister. I think this one is going to depend on whether those with the nostalgia actually get babysitters and go out to see it, or wait at home. I reckon it'll have a big first week for the genuine fans of big disaster spectacle, then it will 100% live and die on whether GenZ and GenAlpha pay any attention to it whatsoever.

The challenge for Deadpool and Wolverene, is that the MCU and Comic book movies in general are not currently as dominant or firing on all cylinders as the 2010s. It could be harder to attract the general audiance than 6 or 7 years ago. However, one thing in the movie's favor, is that unlike the first 2 deadpool moives of 2016 and 2018, it is not playing 2nd fidle to the likes of Infinity War, Black Panther, Batman Vs Superman etc,

Don't bet against the Kevin Costner western films. Look who all is in it. It's a star-studded film that has a great premise with a great lead. I think there will be initial hesitation, then word of mouth will spread putting the 1st movie in the top 5, then the 2nd movie in the top 3 (especially if they surprise-drop the 1st movie on streaming the weekend before the 2nd movie releases).

Thanks for the great deep dive. Three urgent things. 1. You need to note trigger warnings before segments. a) after you went on about how you sweat, I paused the video and took a long cold shower. b) Then unpaused video, then it replayed half of how you sweat (YT always repeats a couple of sentences). c) Then I had to take another long cold shower. d) My skin is now super clean. My mind is yucky. e) Do I need to buy ice to fill my bathtub before watching your videos? Ice is expensive. 😂 Anything's is possible with fans. Especially, you being a decent and very talented creator. 2. What no Spring Box Office anymore? Makes sense. a) Here in Philly, we hit 90 degrees on Sunday. We bypass spring. b) Soon there will be two boxes: Summer and Not Hot Enough to Be Called Summer Yet. 3. Possible deep dives: How sequels perform vs how soon they are released. 1) Did u say Kevin Cosner was releasing two part films this year? 2) Didn't go well for The Matrix franchise. The sequels sucking didn't help. 3) Three years seemed to be the norm because of Star Wars. 4) please don't include the Chosen and Angel Studios. a) How they manipulate those in religious cults. 1. All projects are crowdfunds. 2. Pay It Forward. The last 'forward' for the executives is when St Pete calls their names and provides Jesus' final verdict. 3. Sound of Freedom would have made just 1/10 if we knew then about Tim Ballard. 4. Disney/FOX didnt want to be associated. It had nothing to do with the film being religious. Studios have no problems with these type of films. eg The Ten Commandents and numerous Ben Hur remakes.

Thanks Dan! I wasn't aware of your disdain for the Minions, but I think that you're probably correct in giving DM4 the top spot. I also think that Twisters is going to surprise a lot of people. That original movie was HUGE in 1996, and remains affectionately regarded by the general public. It could be to the original as Jurassic World was to Jurassic Park. Of course, it could also be another Independence Day : Resurgence, but let's wait and see.

It wasn't just the Oscars incident, but all the fallout and revelations that leave a problem with Will Smith as an action star. Without dragging it all up, I just think a significant percentage of the audience will take him seriously in that kind of role. Hollywood keeps thinking of their customers as gormless idiots that don't pay attention to this stuff, but how did that work out for The Flash?
