Heya I hope you don't mind me asking but I'm about to get my first set up and would really like to keep cichlids, you seem to know what you're talking about, there is a company selling 10 mawalis for 95 , I'm assuming if they shouldn't really go together then they shouldn't really be a bundle , but here are the fish.... Red peacock Blue dolphin Marble peacock x 2 Strawberry peacock Redfin Yellow peacock Nyereri Firefish Electric blue Do you think they will be OK? And thank you 😊

Well here I am...Went from a 10 Gallon tank with guppies. Watched 2 of your videos...Now I have two 55gs and 75g. My Cichlids are doing great! The beginning was stressful because my fish had parasites. I noticed bloat and string poop, immediately treated them with metroplex and the garlic guard stuff you recommended in the last video I watched. My fish are doing AMAZING! THANK YOU!!!! Great video! Super informative. I'm getting back into the hobby after a 15 year hiatus and plan on sticking with all African Cichlids. I can see a lot has changed for the better. I've been watching as many of your video's as I can to get up to date with the times. One of the major questions i have is what filter to use? I saw one of your videos where you talk about cleaning and set up of the Fluval 407. I was debating between this and the Fluval FX4. Again, the tank size will be 75 gallons. Any thoughts as to which one would be more appropriate for Cichlids and this tank size? Thanks!
@KaveManAquatics3 жыл бұрын
On my 75 I had an FX6 and a 407 running. This is because my tank was overstocked, by design. You may not overstock at first but you'll eventually see the benefits of doing so. natural progression for new African Cichlid owners. So I would definitely at least start with an FX6 so you dont waste money on a smaller filter you'll need to upgrade very soon. btw, I have an entire course on keeping African Cichlids, but I suggest you start with my Free Webinar training first - event.webinarjam.com/channel/KaveMan-Aquatics

Don't be afraid to get rid of certain ones if you make a stocking mistake. Took me a while to learn that one. When I first started I had a Jaguar that got big and would kill any new fish I added. If it fit in his mouth, it was gone. Then once I ended up with a breeding pair of convicts... Came in one day and there was a black cloud of convict babies, and the 2 had every fish in the tank pushed to the other end lol About 80 in a 200 gal... Convicts ain't no joke when they breed lol I really miss all my tanks. I had about 10 tanks at one time not including breeding tanks. When I figured out how to strip the females and make my own egg bubblers, I had probably 20 grow out tanks too. One of these days I'll get back into it.

excellent video !!! Excellent narration !! excellent to the point and crisp explanation !! full of information which makes sense !!! Thanks Kaveman !!! Actually I am having little trouble - I am already having fishes( 1pc- Severum- 5.5", 1pc OB - 3", 2 pcs - Firemouth(Pair) - 3.2" , 1 pc - Electric Blue Hap - 3" , 1pc - Red Shoulder - 2.8", 1 pc - Yellow Lab - 1.5" , 1 pc - Venustus - 3" ,1pc - Albino rainbow shark - 3" total 10/11 fishes already there in the 54 gallon /3.5'x1.5'x1.5' long tank )............................. NOW on 22- Jan-2022 added lot other fishes which I was very much interested to keep ( 1pc - Dragon Blood - 6" , 1 pc - Taiwan Reef 5", 1 pc - Sulphur Head 5", 1pc - Blue Dolphin 5" , 2 pcs - female Blue Dolphin 4.5", 1pc - Lwanda - 4" , 1 pc - Red Cap Itungi - 3" , 1 pc - Sunshine Benga - 4" , 1 pc - Ruby Red , 1 pc - German Red , 2 pcs - Polar parrot(pair) 3.5" ) ................... now total i have 22 fishes in my tank ... yes I know it is over stocked almost 50% more than the tank capacity ..... but I did it deliberately to mitigate the aggression ................. now the after that the observation is the Severum which used to be the tank boss ... was super aggressive and chased almost all the fishes specially the DRAGONBLOOD !!! .. and i can see the Dragon blood is almost hiding in the scape / cave all the time now ... the Severum is also chasing 4 other fishes along with Dragn blood, e.g. Sunshine , ruby red , german red , pollar parrots !!! now after 4 days I can see the chasing has reduced drastically by the Severum and as I can see the only target of Severum is DRAGONBLOOD ....... so my questin is is it stabilizing ? is it normal phenomenon? is it stabilizing gradually ? question to Kaveman & all other experts ... Thanks a lot in advance from India !
@KaveManAquatics2 жыл бұрын
You have a very strange mix of fish that are not usually kept together. I am surprised you dont have more problems. Aggression will always be in your tank because of the species mix. You have fish that require different diets too. Severums are usually very calm fish so it sounds strange that hes the bully in your tank. Good luck with your tank bud. I also run Reef lighting over it (Kessil A360Xs) to bring out fish color and shimmer in tank. I run them in a narrow illumination period to restrict algae. What do you think is the minimum size tank to keep these, and how many should be kept in that size tank, thanks your fish look amazing 🤩
@KaveManAquatics4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Minimum is 55 and depending on their size max is anywhere from 8-12
@kingofslimecity3 жыл бұрын
I was gonna ask this. I have a 55 with a fx6 filter and a hang on back filter.. I was given 12 convict fry. They are growing fast. If it looks crowded in a few months, I'll upgrade to a 125.. Ive been doing 25% water changes every 2 weeks

KaveMan Aquatics no problem bro. Keep them coming. I have a Mbuna tank and a peacock tank. My peacocks are all juvenile so I’m waiting to see which will color up and which won’t so I know what I have. The Mbunas are crazy as usual. But I can never figure out who the tank boss really is because they all get chased at some point. Lol

I have that top fin decoration in my s. American tank. Lol. nice tank . I'm starting an African cichlid tank , looking for some tips

Although I do not have, I love African Cichlids. I'm un aware of the name, but the marble colored Cichlids are beautiful. I currently have crushed coral for substrate with live plants, my Firemouth's and Jack Dempseys love it and it brings out the colors. I'm concerned with my two Jack's, their colors have not darkened in color, but they are only about 1.5 in size. Thank you for posting.

Adam Santos I love Jack Dempseys too but don’t know much about them...when I have room for multiple tanks I will definitely research them. The Marble colored Cichlids are called OB Cichlids because they are a hybrid/mixed species, peacock with Mbuna.

Belive it or not but i actually added a 2 inch salvini cichlid to my African ( mostly malawi but some tanganyikas like frontosa and 1 more which i cant think of the english name for atm ) and he is doing just fine ! most likely since salvinis can hold their own very easily , i'v seen this before even getting the 2 inch salv i have 2x 4-5 inchers that is holding their own to my almost 10 inch oscars :)!

Liked and subscribed. I absolutely loved seeing the parrot fish. Recently someone told me I shouldn't have mixed parrot fish with my haps and peacocks so this video has set me at ease :)
@KaveManAquatics3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sub! Technically they are right, technically they shouldnt be together because of water parameters and temperment....but as you can see, it can be done successfully! Here's another great video that will make you feel even better - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXe0oIGmaqqCZqs

Yep I do feel even better after watching that. I have 2 parrots and they live together in a submarine. They swim with my dolphin and 2 peacocks but don't get involved in the squabbles lol. I'm getting more Africans soon I defo need more and fingers crossed it carries on working out :)
