actually, apparently the “synths” on At The Door is actually just a really strangely produced guitar. not to be that guy or anything, but i just found that really fascinating. Julian explained it somewhere in his interview with theneedledrop. so yeah, pretty cool.

But I'm assuming you've already heard it, so I'll recommend Replay, 1000 Doves and Babylon. They're also fantastic and I don't see many people talking ab them no idea why

I'm going to be completely honest. I have never been this proud of my country in years. For a Malaysian outfit to make music THIS good and for it to be on Mic's top 10 list is absolutely incredible to me. The music scene in Malaysia was always so derivative, bland and were all just passionless cash grabs. For a soundtrack (or any piece of media for that matter) from Malaysia to have THIS level of uniqueness and for it to be fueled with THIS much passion is UNHEARD of. What really grinds my gears is that this game/soundtrack has not been acknowledged that much in the gaming world, let alone in Malaysia. I genuinely hope that this will inspire other locals to think outside the box with their music. Mic, thank you for letting me know about this record and reminding me that our country is so much more than cheap sounding EDM and cringey love songs, and making me feel so happy about this country.

Actually surprised Yves Tumor got your album of the year, I just listened to his record a couple of days ago while going through everything I missed out in the year and quickly became part of my peronsla top 10. It's the epic kind of funk soul rock album I expected from the likes of Childish Gambino, I'll definitely be checking the rest of his catalogue later on. The only thing I can't buy about your top was the Strokes' part, like I get the craze for the new album and I also enjoyed it, but thinking it was anything but what they had already been doing with their last two records (which is trying new things to quote you) just doesn't make sense. In fact, trying new things while revisiting the past adding their trademark sound has been the constant throughout their carreer (60's pop rock and garage rock defined Is This It); to prove my point even further there's your Steely Dan-esque track "Gratification" in Angles (2011), the "80's Comedown Machine" furious punk song (2013) and even a post-punk a-la-The Voidz inspired tune Drag Queen from their 2016's EP. The only difference this time around was how much people missed The Strokes having had that 6+ years gap between albums.

Definitely gonna have to check out that No Straight Roads soundtrack. My #1 album was Silent Siren's "mix10th", with "Up To You" from it being my #1 song. Really strong Japanese rock that lets every instrument shine, I adore it so much. My favourite part is the true all-time top 10 list you've put together in the video description. I mean yes the new abnormal, punisher, fetch the boult cutters, heaven to a tortured mind, Græ , etc are great and the countless hours I spent listening to these albums were probably the only good time I've had all year. My top 10 Albums: 10. Whatever, Man by BLACKSTARKIDS. Easily one of the most interesting bands I've heard this year. 9. Lonely Diamonds by Ocean Alley. It's just a really good vibe, a rock album that feels like you're riding through a desert at night. 8. How I'm feeling now by Charli XCX. I have nothing to say that wasn't said in the video. 7. Since LYWWvol2 was an ep, Pink Elephant by Stand Atlantic. A beautiful pop punk look at a traumatic relationship that you can't escape from. 6. God I'm Such a Mess by Cry Club. A beautiful Bubblegum Punk album about self betterment and the first post-COVID live act I went to because LFG Australia. 5. The Death of Me by Polaris. The album that finally got me into metal with beautiful instrumentation and depressing lyrics. 4. Made for This by JK-47. This album is a beautiful rap album that can be bragadocious at one second before critiquing Australian treatment of the Aboriginal peoples the next and the absolute connection to family and those close to you at all times. 3. Circles by Mac Miller. Does this album need any introduction at this point? 2. The Theory of Absolutely Nothing by Alex the Astronaut. This album is a beautiful album that works so well this year, looking for hope in a depressing, overwhelming world. 1. Like Nirvana by Cub Sport. I wish I could explain better but it's a beautiful record about queer love and learning to love yourself with beautiful soundscapes that just send you to an amazing place as you listen.
