If you like Fortune and Glory then you should give Shadows of Brimstone a try by the same company FFP. 🤔

Am I the only one who feels a bit threatened and fasacinated at the same time watching this guy describing board games? And the sound and the takes make me feel we are sitting across a small table and that I am at a jab distance from him, which makes it all the more hipnotizing.

@@BoardGameBollocks I have it, and have also never played it! I got the two expansions, which let’s you have another two players (6 total). I really liked the look of it, I enjoyed the show, and imagine it would have fallen nicely into this “Ameritrash” category? The game has a tile based board system, leading potentially different set ups each time. The gangs (players) have to do deals to better their standing, and this incorporates a blind trading system, with three commodities, money, guns and drugs. The blind trading (spoof-like) makes people bluff and undercut each other, and in doing so causes animosity at the table. Everyone ends up trusting no one …it sounded like my cup of tea.

I love these videos, I always find some new interesting games from this underrated channel. Not the best for my wallet but that does say something about the general quality of the stuff you cover. That being said, I have two questions. Feel free to reply if you want... 1. Do you know the board games 'Escape the Dark Castle' and 'Escape the Dark Sector' ? They're rather simple in nature but I do love how it mixes dungeon crawling and gamebook feel. 2. Will you ever play Gloomhaven on livestream? Thanks and keep up the great work
@BoardGameBollocks3 жыл бұрын
We have everything Escape the Dark Castle and I quite like it. It reminds me of Fighting Fantasy. I didn’t bother with Dark Sector as I got burnt out on it and I have a rule of thumb that when a ‘franchise’ goes into space just for the bell of it then avoid it. I’ve had Gloomhaven since it was released way back when but only played it twice. I can’t get the same crew on board for each game so it sits there waiting for me to retire. Thanks for the kind words btw. Appreciate it 👍🏻

Good list of games. The currency system in Level 7 is an interesting mechanic. I have seen a similar implementation recently in the game Smog: Rise of Moloch. Here, too, the heroes can power themselves up, but in doing so they must pass those benefits directly to the Moloch player. Creates quite the dilemma!

Ameritrash is not my first go to, but that said, I have played Zombicide and had a really great evening with it and copious alcohol. Love the zoom in/close ups, but the sound effect drove my bonkers/distracted me a little by number 7, that said, it may just be my nervous disposition on a Sunday morning. Are we getting a top 10 Euros? Introduced the wife and kids to Uwe Rosenberg's Agricola Family Edition last night, was a massive hit, I'm slowly converting them to my boardgame addiction. Keep em coming Fella!

So are Ameritrash and Euros real slang for board games? id never heard either of these expressions to categorize before :)
@BoardGameBollocks3 жыл бұрын
I guess they’re the two most popular types of games that people juxtapose. As with all things there’s crossovers...Twilight Imperium has element of both for example. It’s just an easy way to categorise stuff.
@jamesbritain11033 жыл бұрын
@@BoardGameBollocks I’d argue Twilight Imperium is pure ameritrash. There’s barely any “Euro” in it
@BoardGameBollocks3 жыл бұрын
It uses the same mechanic that’s in Puerto Rico when you pick the role, hence why it’s not on the list. Just because it’s not Euro doesn’t make it ameritrash 👍🏻

Ameritrash... f*ck yeah! Good list, though I find both Kickstarter and CMON to be depressing words and avoid both. Some other titles at random: Fortress America (but you need the Patrick Swayze film), Die Schlact der Dinosaurier (big dinos, ridiculous dice, extinction, lava balls!), Last Night on Earth (my go to Zombie game) and Nexus Ops. Shake those dice like thunder, call on the gods for favour! Thanks for the fan service.

Some games there that I’ll be looking out for. Fortress America is a tough one to find these days. Dino game look interesting.

A nice refreshing list. I tend to prefer Euro games but I do love to get into a bit of theme and I feel your picks are chosen largely because of how much you get sucked into the theme. I find in some cases, even if the game isn't that great, I can still love it due to the immersive theme. While I love Xia, what with most of my games being two player, Xia doesn't get played :( I know there are fan made two player rules out there but I just feel I want to play it as it's meant to be. I totally agree about Adventurers. Repeated play gets dull but every now and then when it comes out it's great. I just absorb myself into the theme and go for glory. Arcadia quest is also awesome. It's a bit icky in some ways at two player as it doesn't have the variety and mayhem of more players and missions are over after only two objectives which can be too quick. But I do enjoy it and it reminds me at times of HeroQuest. So with that inspiration I made a campaign which has a Dungeon Master (always played by me as I made it lol) and I just have people explore the place HeroQuest style (only things you can see are placed including the actual terrain tiles and room contents). It's also got a bit of Zelda type exploring involved eg talk to people and gaining clues/items. It's a pretty cool story too. But the point is that ultimately I feel Arcadia quest is a great platform for creating your own scenarios including these Good vs Evil with DM ones. Others I like you haven't mentioned are Duel of Ages 2, War of the Ring, RoboRally, Marvel Legendary, Smash Up, CCG's such as Magic the Gathering and Warhammer Invasion, Heroscape, Too Many Bones, Escape: Curse of the Temple or Zombie version and honourable mention; Talisman (it surprises me how much I like this). I'm sure I've missed more than a few too.
