When it comes to marine reptiles, my favourite piece of dinosaur media to showcase them was the episode "Cruel Sea" of Walking With Dinosaurs; the mysterious and often eerie music and atmosphere and sleek creature designs are pretty inspirational.
@latrodectusmactans75925 жыл бұрын
If you enjoyed that episode, I highly recommend “Chased by Sea Monsters”. Its basic setup is a documentary crew trying to film the top predators of the seven most deadly prehistoric seas. You get to see creatures like Mosasaurus, Lipleurodon, Dunkleosteus, Megalodon, Basilosaurus, etc. acting like modern sea predators.
@oscarstainton5 жыл бұрын
Latrodectus mactans I did watch that documentary as a kid, and still like to watch it every now and then on KZbin. Very interesting and engaging presentation, and Nigel Marven is an excellent host. In wish we still had more documentaries like it. But for a sheer atmospheric experience, with amazing music and scary sequences, I consider Cruel Sea to be more my cup of tea.

@marilu3173 Жыл бұрын
I agree with your list! I personally would love to see more of the awe and beauty of ancient life as well. The dinosaurs don't have to be these bloodthirsty horror-driven entities (although I do understand that is what Crichton intended/warns us about). I want more of the "nature is chaos and can be dangerous but there is beauty here too" vs this weird message of "WE CAN LIVE WITH DINOSAURS EVEN THOUGH THEY WANT TO EAT US!" mindset.
@varanid95 жыл бұрын
On sheer spectacle in terms of artist's conception, the Tylosaurus images you use here are the coolest. Since Mosasaurs were, essentially, marine monitor lizards, it isn't necessarily inaccurate in any way, as far as we know up to this point. Also, I believe the current consensus among paleontologists is that Spinosaurids weren't actually aquatic animals, but, lived and hunted along the margins of waterways. BTW, Suchomimus apparently had a fin over its hips, though not as high nor as long as the Spinosaurus' as you can see in one of the fossil pics you use for it; it's sometimes reconstructed as being rather triangular.

Do you think the Baryonyx from Fallen Kingdom was one from Jurassic Park, like Rexy? In the Lego stuff, it’s even from Sorna. And the Paras from the JW movies look similar to the Lost World ones. Heck, one of the Carnotaurus from FK could be from Sorna, and the other made by Masrani. And if this were true, we could get a pack with JW variants for the Baryonyx, Parasaurolophus, and Pachycephalosaurus. Like how the 1993 pack is supposed to have JP variants for a lot of the dinosaurs

The best part of the Jurassic World movies for me is how it’s made mosasaurs an actual thing in the public consciousness. The monster in the movies is far too big and kinda outdated for the body shape, but it’s still got important features like the pterygoid teeth and I’m just so happy one of those big awesome swimming lizards actually made it into the mainstream.

Actually, Tanystropheus still is, and always has been considered to be heavily, if not completely relying on an aquatic habitat. Ur right about the recent change in ideas about how they lived, and are recently thought to not SWIM as much, but at LEAST still have a pretty much fish diet, meaning they are thought to live entirely by the waters edge, but there’s nothing about the new ideas that points to them not still spending plenty of time in water, just specifically not SWIMMING. Their legs have been determined to be MUCH better for walking, and not very good for swimming, in general, but it doesn’t really change THAT much, except how far out into the water they probably went. It doesn’t necessarily even change how much time they spent in the water. Walking around in shallow waters, and even walking around submerged, is still considered to be potentially how they mostly lived their lives.

I mean.... I have a JP book/movie themed spinosaur tattoo so, rofl, if say I'd rank it pretty high, but agree with the mosasour. Especially the scene where it's in the giant wave and no one seems to notice. Gives me major jaws vibes and is my absolute nightmare irl; it's amazing.

3:09 Holy crap, it's a hydra, just with only one head! o.o I agree that Spino could have used a scene showing it hunting anything else other than the humans; Rexy got that much in the original JP, showing her off as an animal instead of just a hyper-aggressive monster. Spino deserved to have the same kind of treatment, maybe showing him hunting smaller dinos or even fishing (all that chasing of the humans seems like it would take a lot of energy he'd need to recharge).
