Guts vs those 2 insect apostles that were former knights is really underrated. It showed Guts' tactical thinking because he couldn't brute force his way through that fight. Also the way the 2 apostles used their abilities in tandem to fight was really dope.

Guts vs the Holy Iron Chain Knights is usually overlooked because it comes right after the brilliance of the Rosine battle. It's fucking great, especially how Guts becomes too injured to use his sword and starts beating them with his fists.

I loved all the Guts battles but my 2 favs have to be 2 which have been in the 97 anime, I think seeing them in motion and sound further added to the intensity. #1 has to be Guts encountering Zodd for the first time in the catacombs. When I saw that scene for the first time, it hooked me to keep watching. The atmosphere was grimm and creepy and Zodd was a mysterious creature for me as a 1st time watcher, it was my intro to the Astral World of Berserk. Also, the mind games/dialogue between Guts and Zodd was superbe, the first time (chronologically) in Guts early adulthood when he was overpowered. #2 For me might be one which some may find too generic but its the fight with the Snake Count, the 1st ep of the Anime. That battle served as a demo of how badass Guts will eventually become. The 1st ep has done its job magnificently for me that I got hooked for the entire story. In that battle Guts uses most of his iconic weapons, hes in full Dark Souls mode, slaying monsters alone, no one to worry about. I guess the manga battle is actually even better since he has Puck by his side, but nevertheless, I loved that scene in the anime. For me, all the Blackswordsman battles are on my top for the reasons I mentioned above. Its been a while since Guts has battled in the current chapters, I hope that when he does again, it will be worth it.

Duuuuude, that's a really great list. Especially the number one that is also my favorite. I really liked Berserk so far at the reading but I just fell in love with it when I saw this fight, so brutal, so much anger and resentment, the development. Also because it's the continuation of the adaptations and was totally new territory. I also liked the small fight between Guts and the Holy Iron Chain Knights, to me it just showed how reluctant was Guts to give up to any fight like before joining the Band of the Hawk.

Also, on the topic of the Rosine fight, I personally think that this is where Berserk’s art peaked, or at the very least where it’s my favorite. It’s not on Conviction or Millenium Falcon levels of detail, but just the expressiveness and raw emotion put into ever single pen stroke is so breathtaking. It’s Guts at his most disturbed and evil point, and the artwork conveys that so well. And even Rosines expressions are perfect. Now I love Berserks art style as a whole, so I’m not trying to downplay Miura’s work (Rest in Peace) but when I think Berserk, I think Lost Children, and a bit part of that is the art.

The fact that Guts can beat some apostles with ease but struggles with Serpico is one of the best aspects of berserk. Guts is sturdy but he is still human. Jon Jones could get into a head on front to front car collision with another human being, walk it off and have the other person in the crash put in the ICU but if you stabbed him in the heart, he'd still die. Guts is just super sturdy and trying to brute force against him isn't really going to get you anywhere. Literal monsters get mashed to bits when they try but Serpico never got intimidated and always aimed at the weakspots so he always stood a chance. Combat isn't about one fighter just being higher leveled than the other, it's about styles, strategies and counters and Serpico showed that off very well. A more experienced Serpico might've beat Guts but wouldn't be able to dent an apostle.

I also like how Caska flights in the 100 man slaying, she is small and less beefier than her enemies, and she targets the gaps in the armor an the weak points, and i really like a lot the chapters 320 and 330 when young Guts use half swording technics to defeat a fully armored opponent

Semi joke but also semi serious, favorite fight, Guts internal battle with his own wants and desires. A man torn apart, searching for a purpose, finds one in the form of a lover and friend then has it taken away almost immediately and desecrated by his once best friend. He found meaning only to suddenly have it warped, but instead of finding out how to work with it's new shape he fills the emptiness with rage. Now, with recent chapters he's attained his goal of helping reshape his loves broken form only to find he can't, as of yet at least, take part in reconnecting with her. These future chapters will decide if he once again goes back to embracing his hatred, it breaks him down further or he doubles down and finds a new way to embrace this life of being the struggler.

Personally, I really liked the fight between the snake lord and Guts. I know it wasn't the longest battle or impressive, but it really was an explosive way to introduce the apostles. I agree with your #1, just like Gon, seems like the protagonist became the monster in that arc. Children, girls, baby/fetus/larvae doesn’t matter if you’re he’s enemy he’ll kill you by any means necessary.

I personally think wyald vs Guts is my second favorite as they way I view berserk is that we see how evil and unbeatable these characters seem that i cant way wait when they do die. Wyald is possibly the most evil apostle for the sake of just being evil and i feel people sleep on him as a villain as they would rather talk about the other villains. But wyald represents all the barbaric primal desires we possess and the way Guts kills him, taking every fiber of his being and having to plan out his attacks and traps made Guts stand out as a fighter for me and made wyald's death possibly the most satisfying for me in the series.

Badass all around. One little detail is that Guts would have beaten Boscogne by a small margin but because his sword was damaged from Samson’s mace and the hundred man battle, it broke against Boscogne’s giant axe. So Zodd throwing Guts his sword wasn’t to help him but to level the playing field as Guts’ sword broke and Zodd as a warrior cannot watch his rival die when he has no sword to defend himself. Just an honorable nod in acknowledgment to Guts as a warrior to Zodd

my number 1 battle personaly is guts vs griffith pt 2. Even tho the battle ends with 1 blow it has a massive impact on griffith and guts and the story as a whole, because that drove griffith to insanity and lust, and the results from this battle are one of the main initiatives for the eclipse, even tho it was destined for griffith.
