After finishing up my own boss rankings, I wanted to give you all the chance to weigh in on your best and worst bosses in the Souls Series. Abyss Watchers have the best cutscene. and I'm disappointed that Soul of Cinder didn't even have a cutscene in Dark Souls 3, he is the final boss

That's one of my main gripes with a fair few of the bosses in DS3. You're killing each Lord of Cinder and only two of them have a cutscene by default (shoutout to fucking missing Siegward in the Irithyll Dungeon....), and then the Soul of Cinder doesn't have a cutscene either.

pontiff is criminally underrated. i mean the fight itself is one of the best in ds3, but when you look in to the lore he is one of the coolest and most evil characters in the series. his presence looms all over the lore of dark souls 3, and his age is one of the coolest considering how ruthless/cunning a ruler he was.

Bloodborne is not as good as the Dark Souls series and Demons Souls is just too old. Dark Souls 2 bosses were more about quantity than quality. Dark Souls 1 and 3 were 2 of the best fucking games i have ever played. Dark Souls 2 was also awesome. Demons Souls was already too old for me when i played it first time and Bloodborne was kinda dissapointing for me because i expected something as good as Dark Souls. Bloodborne is still decent i guess.

Sir Potato But it's not tho. Maybe I just prefer the faster pace combat and the setting, but Bloodborne is so much closer to perfect than Dark Souls 1. I can't name an area or boss that is as bad as Lost Izalith and Bed of Chaos (I never got there, but they're widely considered to be horrible). It even influenced Dark Souls 3 to a degree.

Gwyn is a better final boss, at least in my opinion. Dark Souls spends hours preparing you for this moment, you've had to face a plethora of bosses of various sorts, you feel like you're ready for anything, and when you cross that fog gate you are surprised, for you meet... an old man. Gwyn, clearly withered and weak, stands before you, the man who bested the dragons, a God amingst his peers, the man who brought about the age of fire, now stands before you as nothing but a frail old man. The arena is dark, only illuminated by the faint glow of the dying bonfire, and the music kicks in. Just then do you realise what Dark Souls is all about, it's a story of loss, of decay, for all great things crumble. Gwyn's flame is dying, much like the world around him, and yet he frantically and desperately tries to defy fate, he lunges at you, but his attacks are weak and predictable. As you parry him effortlessly you start to indulge in the misery of Gwyn, at the same time you feel contentment and joy, yet also melancholy. The world is growing ever so darker, and what you do matters not, for all that is must one day collapse and crumble.

Ok, it's time to school you. Nobody challenges me on dark souls lore. Pinwheel was originally 3 people, presumably a father, a mother, and a child. From some unknown event, most likely the run of demons from demon souls or the hollowing of dark souls, the mother and the child died. In the father's grief, he tried to find a way to resurrect them. In his attempts, he realized he would need the rite of kindling, and that was a secret only held by nito, the first of the dead. In order to obtain this rite, he became the right hand man to nito, even showing from nitos boss fight, when he amerges from a coffin, with an empty coffin next to him. This coffin was pinwheels. This is further backed from all the pinwheel clones around the area, which were, in fact, failed attempts to bring the mother and child back to life. Because the sad truth is that when the father revived the mother and child, something went wrong, combining the three together. All of the clones were there because they were all clones made to separate the three, for pinwheels true goal is to be able to have all three of them living in separate bodies. When you find pinwheel, he is continuing the research that he pursued for years. So basically you kill a man who's trying to save his family.

People will definitely disagree with me on this, but I think Orphan of kos is easily the best boss in the series. The pure adrenaline that this fight produces is unlike anything I've ever experienced in a game. My heartbeat was through the fucking roof during phase 2, just fully focused at all times on even the slightest movement he made, looking for any and all openings I could get on him, and that's one of the biggest reasons I love him. Its truly a boss that teaches you to make your hits count, with almost all slightest mistakes ending in punishment. I know a lot of people say you can cheese him, but honestly, where's the thrill in that? Also, the music. While it may not be my favorite track in the series (that position is held firmly by ludwig the holy blade), its definitely up there.With the simply beautiful and downright moving vocals of phase 1, and the transitioning to the adrenaline pumping and monstrous rapid pace of phase 2, its definitely a fantastically done piece in every sense of the word.

Really in my experience people either love him because he's so hard or hate him because gitting gud is hard. I don't even get angry with the Orphan because of how challenging he is

For me he felt completely fair, no random one shots, requires precise timing to come out on top, decent score, decent lore, beautiful and sombre setting and tone, no broken hitboxes, complex design you have to memorise. I really liked Orphan, he takes the spot as my 4th favourite boss in Bloodborne only surpassed by Gehrman, Maria and Ludwig since those three had more of an emotional punch to them. Plus a few bosses you mentioned rival Orphan in difficulty. I assume you hate Midir too?

Midir is an extremely fair challenge, I actually find him and Ludwig more difficult than Orphan. And I agree, on a mechanical level Ludwig is the best designed boss in Bloodborne, maybe even the whole series, I think the only boss that rivals him in terms of being mechanically perfect in my eyes is Slave Knight Gael, and I also have a massive urge to include the Twin Princes and Soul of Cinder here too.

I will say, the Ruin Sentinels from Dark Souls 2 instilled a deep sense of fear in my heart the moment I got to them that no other boss ever has in the series. The moment I fell down from the mist door my eyes went from the three health bars, thinking "OH SHIT, THREE BOSSES" to the first one attacking me, thinking "OH SHIT, I GOT HIT", it might just be my play style (I play without a shield) but for me, it is easily also the most difficult boss I've played against in the series.

For me, Gehrman will always be one of my Top 3 favorite boss battles in the series at least in lore. Here, we have a man who's been trapped in the Hunters Dream for a ridiculously long time and obviously wants out of it. I think that when you reject his offer, there's a part of him that's actually kind of happy about your decision, because for him, at least on a subconscious level, this is an opportunity to finally be freed after god knows how long he's been there. I also believe this battle is a very internal one for Gehrman and that he more or less knows what will happen if you defeat him, caught between the need to "free" you either out of duty or simply a selfless desire to save you from having to suffer the same fate he did if you defeat him (I don't think he knew about the umbilical cords) and his own desire to be freed after being trapped for so long.

Pontiff was one of those relentless bastards that I hated absolutely every single second that I fought against him as I proceeded to die again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and AGAIN. And then once I finally beat him and that endorphin rush hit me, I said to myself "huh... that was actually a pretty cool boss."

I beat him in 3 tries solo with no shield or parrying, nor using any spells on my first playthrough. He is not very memoreable because of that, but he does look cool! I feel that as long as you get him to phase2 there is really no way for you to lose anymore, as you cannot be damaged.

I didn't struggle with Pontiff too much but that's because I came to Dark souls 3 after just playing Bloodborne so I was very used to the aggression and his move set as the Pontiff attacks much like a combination between Ludwig and Gherman. But I can understand why he was hard because of his move set. My play style complemented him as I play very aggressive and try and avoid him. The boss after him Aldrich was my worst nightmare, aggressiveness does not complement his RNG so I was fine with Pontiff but Aldrich is my personal hardest boss for Dark souls 3

+A Completely Generic Duck I was committed to beating him solo, and I sucked at dodging, so I decided I would finally learn how to parry. Part of why I love the boss so much is that he forced me to git gud at parrying. When I finally beat him, I felt like the biggest badass on Earth.

+The Armoured Alchemist Yeah, Plenty of bosses (like the Pontiff) gave me trouble, but Aldrich is the only one I actually dislike fighting. I just find his magic arrow and soul spear attacks to be complete bullshit. If RNG decides that he's going to spam his most annoying attacks, I'm basically screwed.

Hexnus I see a difference between favorite and best. For example my number one favorite is the Orphan, but I wouldn't put him in the top 10 best. If I voted for my favorites it would be a lot of Bloodborne bosses probably because it's my first, but I voted for what I think are the best so it was a lot more spread out.

+Octodog I'm afraid it's going to be difficult for a list made by fans then. As fans we are naturally biased and issue favouritism to what we specifically want. Even your minor criticism is technically a biased one because you feel there are better ones to choose from. I for example felt O and S, while good at the time, simply does not have the same impact as it did when DS first hit shelves. in the end of it, any ranking system will have biased opinions, even for a professional like D-Mod. And the majority of fans will congregate around certain bosses, especially if they have nostalgic ties to them.

Not including Dark Souls II since i haven't played it: -10: Knight Artorias -9: Ornstein and Smough -8: Pontiff Sulyvahn -7: Lady Maria of the Astral clocktower -6: Ebrietas, daughter of Cosmos -5: Soul of Cinder -4: Ludwig, the accursed -3: Abyss watchers -2: Gehrman, the first hunter -1: Gwyn, lord of Cinder and a mention of honor to the Orphan of Kos: the hardest boss on the series by far, his fight is also one of the most accelerating and violent experiences i've ever lived through videogames, and i find it very difficult to include a boss that gave me so much pain in the ass, and the same goes for the Nameless King

I'm kinda surprised Manus didnt make it, he was my favorite boss from ds1 hands down. You can feel his wrath and rage smashing you into the ground with each combo, until he goes nuts and go all out on you with his hexes to finaly try to shut you down. The fight is chillingly epic (his eyes look awesome emerging from the abyss) and his lore isn't bad itself, he is the father of the abyss afterall. Ludwig. Best boss ever. The way he regains his humanity at the sight of his moonlight blade really gives me chills as he fights as the hunter he once was. It is just visual, mental, and auditory cocaine for me. It gives me "Let us have one more fight together" vibes, if that makes any sense? Which I find to be incredibly cool and badass. I know I probably sound stupid as fuck, but who cares. It almost makes me emotional, and I feel like he also feels proud to be able to have one last fight before being released from his beasthood. I don't know, I genuinely feel like he feels some kind of emotion. God, I really do sound stupid.. I'm not good at explaining how I feel about things, so, that's all I'm going to say.

I think this poll was released before Ashes of Ariandel DLC coming out which is why I hope theDeModcracy make new poll this time, with Ashes of Ariandel and Ringed City bosses included. If I'm going to be honest, I'd say Martyr Logarius was my favorite boss in Soulsborne. This might seem a bit weird, but hear me out. First of all, the setting. I love the look of Cainhurst Castle. It is quite unique when compared to Yharnam, especially with the wintery theme. Secondly, I very much enjoy the theme. It is intense and a little unsettling, but makes you still want to rise up and win. Lastly, Logarius himself. He kicked my ass so many times. I honestly lost count after 40 deaths. And this comes from a Souls veteran who dedicated himself to becoming a parry king with the Blood Rapture rune equipped. Once I finally killed him, I felt even better than the last time I beat constipation. And as aggravating as it was to be killed over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, I have to respect the guy. I'm also quite grateful to him as he really forced me to step up my game and truly git gud. Him and my lack of PS+.

It makes rouge characters a lot better thanks to being able to exceed the amount of Iframes a warrior would had. Also how is the roll more clunky then DS1? As a veteran of all Souls, Abyss Watchers still remains my favorite. The soundtrack and movement of the fight are singular, and though the health pool is low, its no reason to knock on him. Theres so much symbolism and lore behind the fight; the legion infighting after succumbing to the madness of the Abyss, then coming together for one last battle at the end of their lives. Its equal parts beautiful and challenging.

@@yaboi2500 If you're looking at gank fights, O&S is the best in Souls. It's the most well balanced, since their movesets actually compliment each other well. In other good ganks like Abyss Watchers and Bell Gargoyles (DS1), you see the movesets of each individual compliment each other well. O&S definitely does that best. It's also (for most people) the first monumental challenge they ever experienced in Souls. They have an emotional connection to it, so they'll like it more. I do think Manus should have been on this list too, but it's all just opinions.

@@BLooDy21HD 1st; opinion 2nd; in a way, yes, and also no. Firstly, in Ornstein and Smough, they are both constantly attacking and chasing you down. In this way I think they are better than Demon Prince because both are near you and it's generally much harder to split them up. When both of the Demons are active early in the fight it's essentially impossible to make any attacks without getting punished because they're so aggressive. This is simply not the case with O&S; their mechanics and the environment split them up for them, rather than the whole toxic vs. melee thing in the Prince fight. Don't get me wrong, the Princes are great, I love that fight. I just think O&S is better from a design perspective.

It's just because it's the least played. That said Allant and Flamelurker would have a tough time contending with most of the bosses in the list. Allant is not so different from Gwyn and Gehrman and doesn't have the immediate emotional aspect of either of them (even if his lore is as good). Orphan has the aggression of Flamelurker while being more lore-relevant while O&S share his quality of being a major roadblock to game progression that you're forced to conquer, but in a more grandiose style and without the option of just going and completing other worlds first. They're both top 20 worthy but probably not 10 imo. Tower Knight is a fine boss but he's not on the same level as the others we're discussing imo. Now Astraea is a tougher call. I still think that's the most emotionally charged fight in the entire series, for players who know the lore and for those who don't. They can recreate fights that will feel like Allant and Flamelurker but Astraea is a unique experience. I actually hate sparring with Garl Vinland because all he does is parry and OHKO me, but it's hard to deny the gravitas of that the Astraea encounter as a whole.

fromsoft tried to amke a completely story set-up, being on a time where everything about the first game became legend and folkstale, or forgotten, and i agree its very confusing ina lot of ways, it still good, and also sad and tragic in soe parts, like vendrick being tricked by nashandra and losing absolutely everything, lucatiel and her lost brother and fading memories, shanalotte not being able of fullfilling her purpose and tring to fix it with your help, and her voice acting that was so well done depressing, seeing ornstein corrupted by the abyss like artorias, and made more sense after the third game, wich suggesting the one you fought in the first game was an ilusion, and he got his ass kicked than corrupted after finally finding the nameless king, was awesome, although the fight could have been more challenging, it was still awesome, i will always love dsii no matter what people say, its not the best of the bunch, but it still awesome, and it has one thing the third dont have: FUCKING POISE!

My favorite moment in every bloodborne hunter vs hunter fight (be it the bloody crow, gehrman, maria, or whatever unnamed npc hunter), is when you both quickstep but end up dashing to the same side. It feels like the pinnacle of a mirror fight to me, where you are so similar to your enemy, that you manage to know what they think without realizing it yourself.

Great video! I'd also like to propose Father Gascoigne because his soundtrack is truly heart pumping, the arena is fantastic, his lore is great, but more than anything, he sets the tone for the game. I came to BB from 600 hours of Dark Souls, beating Demon's Souls, and playing some of Dark Souls 2; this fight let's people know that aren't new to the franchise that BB is a whole different beast (intended pun). What a great boss and it's probably my favorite in the series for what it accomplishes.

In my first 2 playthrough of Dark Souls 1, with the help of Solaire, i beat Ornstein first and then Smough. On my 3rd playthrough, playing without a shield, i beat them alone by killing Smough first, took about 15 times but... what a feeling! and this fight is so nice, even if you keep dying you can't rage on it

OK so overall the consensus from voters for Dark Souls 1 is that Gaping Dragon, Pinwheel, Seath, Gwyndolin, Iron Golem, Asylum Demon, Capra Demon and fucking _Bed of Chaos_ were better bosses than Sanctuary Guardian? An actual good boss in Dark Souls 1 gets less than 1% of the vote compared to a group of at-best mediocre and some outright garbage bosses? Good to know. At least Ceaseless Discharge and the other bosses with "Demon" in their name remained rock bottom with no votes like they deserve. Also High Lord Wolnir and Ancient Wyvern having any votes at all, let alone not being the bottom two, is funny to me. Crystal Sage isn't a great boss but at least it can be considered a boss with actual mechanics and fighting going on unlike Ancient Wyvern. Old Demon King also isn't my favorite from Dark Souls 3 but it's at least somewhat a decent fight unlike Wolnir who is just horrendously stupid in every way. There are other DkS3 bosses I also dislike but those two stick out for me as being particularly noteworthy offenders. Avner Weiss Sanctuary Guardian still has probably twice as much health as Abyss Watchers does, _both_ their phases, combined. Well maybe, maybe not, but "too little health" I don't recall being an issue with Sanctuary Guardian. Clearly that wasn't an issue for people with Abyss Watchers going by this poll. Even if that were the case a lot more good can be said about Sanctuary Guardian and a LOT worse can be said about the aforementioned bosses in Dark Souls 1 that got voted above it.

I think Sanctuary got low votes because it's not that memorable. Sure it's a fun fight, but there's no real lore or infamy attached to it. Think about all the others: Gaping Dragon is vag dragon, Pinwheel's a giant joke, Seath is a Lord even if he's easy, Gwyndolin is memorable for being a hidden boss, Iron Golem has Tarkus, Asylum Demon is the first boss, Capra Demon is a gotcha gank, and Bed of Chaos is... Bed of Chaos. SG gives a good bout, but once it's done you really don't need to think about it again until the next playthrough. As for High Lord Wolnir and Ancient Wyvern, that might come down to spectacle over quality. Crystal Sage has more boss-like qualities, but it's still really easy for most people, so it comes down to running around a forest clearing for a few minutes smacking a squishy wizard. Wolnir and the Wyvern, for all that they're more roadblocks than bosses, look badass and have just enough wow factor to make them more memorable. Sending a giant skeleton careening back into the abyss and jumping on the head of a dragon to stab it to death is pretty awesome, even if it's a shallow thrill.

My favourite boss is the Dancer in Dark Souls III, mainly because it was the first souls games I play, but also because I was to stubborn to face challenges so I attempted to defeat her at level 19 as a sorcerer with 2 mana flask and 1 health flask and never upgrading my HP... After 79 tries and a lot of hits with a lame sword I manage to defeat her and GOOD DAMN, I was proud of beating her. Sad that her swords are weak, but I was a sorcerer so I was bound to be a marshmallow :3

I completely agree with you except with the BB part. I think BB has enough bosses here. BUT WHY ARE THERE SO MANY DARK SOULS 1 BOSSES HERE?! It has the worst bosses in the series! And I'm not talking about a few I'm talking about all but a few. 50% of it bosses are trash the other 45% are just bad and there are a few cool ones like artorias and manus. And almost no bosses from DS2's DLCs! Also Abyss Bitches shouldn't be here. They could put someone like Pontiff Sulyvahn in their place.

Jake if you think about it all of izalith sucks which is 4 bosses both demons in undead area suck that's 2 more, pinwheel sucks, nito at best is ok, iron golem is pretty bland, gwyndolin wasn't that good, stray demon sucked, asylum demon was ok,which leaves quallag, gargoyles, gwyn, Seeth, O&S, from base game at least. The dlc had really good bosses

I do not really understand why O&S get so much praise. The lore is decent, but the fight always comes down to running away until Ornstein comes close enough to hit him. Then you retreat and repeat. So I think O&S is a bit boring.

It's a nostalgia thing. For most of the people who played Dark Souls first he was the most satisfying to beat. mechanically he's honestly pretty shitty. He's a checklist of problems with Dark Souls. Invisible shockwaves: Check Shitty camera movement:Check Rollcatching into Stunlocks: Check Wonky hitboxes: Check Bullshit attacks that make RNG determine fights: Charge Ornstein hiding behind Smough's fatass and shooting Lighting through him: Check People also like him a lot because they associate bosses with the area they are in and Anor Londo is the best area in Dark Souls and the only other area that's even close is Sens Fortress.

For me soul of cinder, ds3 was my first souls game and loved it then how he would mix different fighting techniques, went back and played the rest of the series and now love it even more knowing all the history behind him, the music theme being revamped from the Gwyn fight all the different move sets, spells and that cool ass backflip 10/10

My most memorable moment from all of the sloulsborn was beating the pursuer when I was 10. DK2 was my first game in the series and I started when I was about 7. And the pursuer was my biggest challenge in the game until the dlc. And the fume knight didn’t take me even close to the same amount of time

Yeah but the Souls series wasn't as popular/well-known back then (it was the first game in the series). With that being said False King Allant, Tower Knight and possibly Flamelurker also could have made it into the top 10 list if the people voting would have played all the games. Demon's Souls was the first and best Souls experience to me. The difficulty felt insane at first. The atmosphere and level design is amazing. The music is still the best in the Souls series.

Figured I needed to give reasons for my top 10 10) Maria- Fantastic fight, a bit too easy but the brutal 1v1 between hunters is awesome. 9)Gwyn- The OST in this fight is reason enough that I have it ranked number 9. I also enjoy parrying him 8)Gundyr- WOW. Fast paced, brutal and extremely satisfying to fight. Also fun to parry like gwyn 7) Pontiff- I like this fight because it's so challenging. Died to him the most in DS3. Satisfying to parry as well. 6) Soul of Cinder- A boss with mechanics of other great bosses and mechanics in other dark souls games. Fuck yeah 5)Fume Knight- Awesome presentation, tough fight. Cool combos 4) Ludwig, the Accursed- This is an interesting one. In reality, my salt levels for this guy are sky high. Died about 30 times in first playthrough of DLC. But he's a fantastic boss with an awesome OST, cool design, and awesome cutscene midway through. I can't let my salt levels stand in the way. 3) Sir Alonne- Similar to Maria, I love the brutal, fast paced 1v1 fight. This guy is just really fun to take down. 2) Burnt Ivory King-I LOVE this boss. The atmosphere, arena and the entrance alone is why I have it ranked so high. What a great fight. 1) Orphan of Kos- Possibly the most disturbing boss in the history of Soulsborne, I can't fault this fight at all. Brutally difficult, and satisfying to take down I absolutely adore this fight. The rainy arena and the design on Kos are outstanding.

But Maria is just more or less a rehash of Gehrman. that guy had far more impact than Maria in my opinion. he was also alot harder (depending on your current level when you fought him), and he had that element of surprise.. going from being your "crippled" mentor in a wheelchair throughout the entire game, to one of the Final boss fights that completely kicked your ass

Gehrman was a fantastic fight but unfortunately I never fought him in my first playthrough of bloodborne. :( I chose to submit my life not even knowing that he was a possible boss in the game. I found out later and did another playthrough. But yeah he's most def up there. Making a top 10 is not easy lol :p

My favorite is champion gundyr. You just walk into the darkened arena and see what gundyr was before he was infected by the pus of man and left for time untold. You see him rise up and meet you in combat as one warrior in his prime against another. The way he charges at you is badass and he is completely relentless.

Ok, not many people think about the old demon king as a challenge. But one thing that most people might have missed is last attempt to beat you. He lets out all his remaining strength to try and live. After that he is so weak he cant even lift his hammer. Think about it. He survived trough the old age, the first flames of Izalith. Now, he hides in a place full of dead demons. His arena is full of corpses of his comrades. The fire of the demons is fading. You encounter only few demons that are still strong. Think about the stray demon you encounter. Still a strong huge demon, but with no trace of flame. Literally crumbling as you defeat it. And then the demon in pain and the demon from below. Probably the strongest remaining demons. You, the hero. Kill these demons. (Not to forget the fact that one is literally called the demon in pain) Trough the souls games, you are making the demon race extinct. The old king, last of the demon leaders. Lies helpless in front of you. And so you, have ended the age of demons. Maybe a little remain, but their flames are fading.

I really like Old Demon King. Middle of the pack in terms of difficulty but cool story and nice design, plus the throwback to the Bed of Chaos was pretty interesting. Demon Prince, on the other hand, is easily my favorite boss in the whole game. It's basically the Old Demon King fight but twice as fast and three times as difficult, plus it builds on the idea that the demons are all but gone and you're fighting the last remnants of a once mighty race. Once you slay the Demon Prince, it's over, there aren't any more demons, period. The malformed flame that was the source of life for their whole race has been snuffed out. You drive a whole race extinct because...you don't like them? Shit, if you think about it, Smouldering Lake is 100% optional. You go out of your way to kill off a creature that doesn't even present a threat to you. You're not even told to do it, you just decide to go kill him for literally no reason. Looking back on the series, did they ever actually do anything wrong? Were they ever even a threat or did Gwyn just want them eradicated because they reminded him of his past mistakes? It really made me stop and think once it was all over.

I think you could make this list after the DS3 DLC-s... what the From Software has done with this two DLC is incredible. At least Sister Friede and Slave Knight Gael should be on this list. My personal favourite is Gael 'cause I think he was the most challanging one in the series but completely fair and vincible and I can't write how good was the feeling when you finally beat that beast. I think he has to be on the list. Anyway I love your videos and the content of your channel. Keep up the good work! :D
