Even though I’m older than both of them, and sadly I’ve never driven against either of them, two thumbs up going out to Alex Labbé and D.J. Kennington. You couldn’t post a Canadian NASCAR list without those two. 👍👍

They need to find a Canadian company that's willing to support a driver full time at Cup level. The obvious one would be Tim Hortons, but I guess they put all their money in hockey. I believe if Greg Moore had not been killed, he would have eventually found himself in NASCAR, moving over like Tony Stewart did. And he'd have been tops on this list. I remember that after one of the IROC races, Dale Earnhardt was raving about Moore's talent and talked about wanting to sign him for his own team. Within a couple of years after that, they were both gone.

YES!! Especially agreed on the Greg Moore one, although I personally believe he would’ve became an all-time great in Indycar. Idk about him being in NASCAR, but the idea sounds fascinating for sure! Similar situation with Ron Fellows for DEI, so just imagine if Dale had gotten both Moore & Fellows fully into the sport. A lot of crazy what-if’s! Tim Hortons hasn’t even gone as far up as the Truck Series, it was always the Lapcevich’s in the Pinty’s Series. Perhaps Alex Labbe or Stewart Friesen could consider it at some point down the line, who knows.

@@Reegser I only mention Moore as a NASCAR driver because of Earnhardt's comments and because of the split at the time might have made NASCAR seem more lucrative, so he might have eventually looked to another series. Of course Moore had signed with Penske and Penske was on the verge of deserting CART for the IRL, but even Penske driver Sam Hornish switched to NASCAR, though he had little success, and I think Moore would have at least tried it. I think he would have done better than Hornish (which wouldn't have been too hard.) I don't think Moore would have ever gotten a shot at Formula One. Drivers from IndyCar who got Formula One opportunities were only guys with European racing backgrounds. Villeneuve got a shot because of who his father was and because, face it, he was more European than Canadian. Montoya, DaMatta, Zanardi & Bourdais got opportunities to drive F1 after winning championships in CART, but all raced their junior series in Europe. Jimmy Vasser & Paul Tracy did not get the opportunity, as their junior careers were in North America, though I believe Paul Tracy did get a test. Michael Andretti did get an F1 ride, but, obviously, like Villeneuve, because of family connections. I don't think Moore would have ever gotten consideration for Formula One, no matter how well he did in IndyCars, so with the series split, the only other option would have been NASCAR.

@@RRaquello Interesting details! Quite the information here. As I said in my reply, the idea of Moore in NASCAR sounds fascinating, and I have no doubt he would've become a popular contender, at best.

I believe he had signed with Penske but it was still a few months out from the official announcement before his accident sadly.

I actually somehow didn't notice that, interesting! Just wasn't really meant to be, and he perhaps got rushed too, I suppose. Still worthy enough considering the chance he was given plus his motorsports experience! Apologies for taking centuries to reply.

COOL GOOD LIST FOR A CANADIAN NASCAR FAN
@floydfan59932 жыл бұрын
Although you mentioned Canada's greatest drivers to participate in Nascar ,Canada has produced much better drivers than the list you mentioned, and Junior Hanley is probably at the top of that list.
@Reegser2 жыл бұрын
I'm very aware, haha! I'd personally argue that drivers like Villeneuve and Fellows would be somewhere at the top regardless of NASCAR. Also, it's cool to see a guy like Hanley from Nova Scotia! Nice story.

@@Reegser , difficult to compare road course drivers to short track drivers.
@Reegser2 жыл бұрын
@@floydfan5993 Oh for sure, but I'm not comparing anyone here. Was just pointing them out in general. I might be wrong, but if only a Canadian could eventually come around as an elite all-around driver (I may be forgetting a historical one). There's still plenty of time for guys like Alex Labbe and Raphael Lessard to prove themselves though!

I used to love Stewart Friesen, especially after I found out he has an Autistic Son. But when I found out his Autisim charity promotes ABA "therapy", I lost all respect for the man. ABA is also called "Autisim Conversion Therapy" and is considered torture
