Well while the new sion is a lot more interesting and is played a lot more, I sometimes miss the old sion. His kit was just hillariously broken in so many ways. He was not only an ad-livestealing menace, but also an ap-one-shot champion with a stupidly large shield. But he deffinetly was a troll-pick, a fun one mind you ;D

Linke Seii personaly loved old ad sion this is all you had to do for him Farm with E get blade of the ruin king keep farming with E get phantom dancer, hydra, and shiv you would never have to buy tank items you would already be at 3-4k health XD

khaosjoker909 Indeed. Another thing people seem to miss is that she went from a combination support/burst to a... burst. Her shield gives a speed boost, sure, but her old kit had one too. She got a snare, sure. But it uses the same mechanics as her old W... with the same affect as Leblanc's E. Q went from being a combination burst (weak but still kinda bursty if built right) and heal, to... burst and slow. Granted, after I finally simmered down and started playing her, I still love playing Karma, despite the complete overhaul, but I still to this day miss that old Karma I used to main.

khaosjoker909 Yay another OG Karma fan. I miss her soooo much. She was my favourite champ pre-rework. I always felt that people never understood how to play her really well. It also made me sad, because her biggest gate to effectiveness was her gold dependence and her change came a few months before they introduced all the new support gold income items which would have made so much difference.)Her rework took one of Riot's most unique champs and turned her into a generic mage. I also hated the visual rework that came with the changes as it tarted up the classiest lady in LOL. Her old Sun Goddess skin was awesome. How much did I hate the Karma changes? So much that I wrote to Riot after playing a few games to try her out and demanded a refund for the skins that I had purchased. They refunded me the costs in IP for both the skins and the character. She will be the only champion I will never own again.

I just went back to my first LoL loves Janna and Soraka. But those wounds have never healed. Sience each version of Karma is so drastically different in play style I'd be beyond the moon with excitement if Riot were to make her a "dual mode" character where you could pick which version of the character you want to play. That would make me squee!

Karma's rework is honestly my favorite. I'm a supp/mid player, and Karma is a champ that went from someone I hated to my main support pick. Her Q now can destroy ADCs who build armor and her ultimate allows good decision-making between shield, stun, or damage. Also, new animations and skins are 1000% better.

No, Xerath was a monster before the rework. His W gave him 40% Magic Pen, plus his ult hits were easy to hit and did a 60% ratio so 180% total on ult. Back in the day late game mages were usually close to 1k AP with; Deathcap, Hourglass, Voidstaff, Archangels, DFG, CDR item. Xeraths ratios were no joke. 60% on Q (75% now). W gave 16-40% MR Pen and bonus range. It also gave you a speed boost when you exited it.(Now damaging AoE slow on a 60% ratio). E was a targeted hit and the next spell you landed stunned on an 80% ratio (45% now). And Ult, oh the memories. 3 Hit just like your current W but with high base damage and on the 60% AP ratio per hit.(Now 43%) If you add up the AP ratios in each kit you will find his current kit has a 309% Total AP Ratio (Plus Mana gain passive) His old kit had a Total kit AP Ratio of 320% + 40% Magic Pen (Not to mention passive 15% of AP is gained as Armor) His new kit has more mobility and balance with stun and q charge up slows you but i still feel the damage he had before was insane and wayyy better and the changes were done as a nerf.

Okay missing two big and good ones. Gangplank and nidalee. Nidalee - used to have a little broken and boring gameplay, relying on 1 shotting people with spears. Rework kept the importance of the spear at the same time added more utility and value to her cougar form (which used to be useless) and turned her into a top tier pick, as well as opening her up to more roles other than midlane. Gangplank - like the nidalee update, kept the importance of his q and added a new mechanic (barrel) that turned him from a weird pick into a good champion which added a high skill high reward gameplay as opposed to the old point and click q.

i used to like the old xerath more too. he was like a sieging tower with pure raw damage and insane damage, and now he is like a catapult, idk. he deals less damage and his damage is way more unrealiable, very easy to dodge(expecially his new ult). The channel time on his W and ult before the skill actually landing on the ground are too big and people will have a easy time not getting hit by anything. His E became a skillshot too, so you can't stun people behind minions, and his Q has to be charged up to be usefull. Overall, he has NO reliable way to deal damage to a enemy, similar to Ziggs, and you can pretty much lose to a 1 hp yasuo/riven/ekko(and the list goes on) with 100% of your hp. I know he is a sieging team mage, and should be played with his team to be protect while doing damage, but all of his skills are easy to dodge and his damage isn't that good either. not saying he's a bad champion now, just liked the old xerath more. The EQ combo, the real ability to snipe people with his ult, the 75% magic pen to melt people, and stuff like that.

why the hell would you wanna give a champ annie type of burst in that type of range. theres no point of picking up other shorter ranged champions with burst then. the more range the less bursty the damage should be and the harder to land the skill shot considering the safety they get

And they made it do that now, it takes real skill to aim and land his abilities. it's so that it's more rewarding when landing an ult, and makes you a much much more importance to the team. His role now is to stay at the back of the team while dishing out massive damage.

Why is Katarina so high? Or on this list? Like literally all they did was create a massive balance issue with her which ended up forcing Riot to gut her then buff her ult. Sure it was great for Katarina players but if that's a good one you might as well put Ryze's latest update on this list at number 1. Literally before that rework she had about a 50% winrate at solo q and despite being a one trick pony was considered relatively balanced. The update nerfed her ult slightly and added more damage to her combo just straight up making her unfair. Sunfire cape toplane katarina was actually viable just because of how absurd her base damage was. If you watch the patch notes afterwards they changed her numbers to make her w weak, her q her primary damage, her e lost burst, and her R damage went up. Basically they've balanced her into old Katarina because it was, you know... balanced.

Alec Balasko Buffing your Q/E isn't really useless, especially when its a tool to determine your positioning. Its definitely a burden of knowledge situation but look at all the passives champions have these days, there's plenty of burden of knowledge in kits. It definitely wasn't worth maxing since its just a minor amplifier to her other skills, but adding damage and movement to her kit that was already pretty solid wasn't a good idea just for the sake of making a button more attractive to press IMO.

I love your analyses on many videos, but on half of these, I'd care to disagree. I was a Xerath main pre-rework, and was fairly involved in the discussion of his rework (as well as the reasons why). It was because his kit didn't match his theme (he had Too much Move Speed from the WQ poke, armor from the passive that just didn't make sense for a ranged mage), and he had a low play rate (BUT STILL HIGH WIN RATE, which Riot said was an indicator of some base problems). From memory, Pre-rework Katarina was merely a niche pick, not an unviable one. Very few people knew how to use her, but she was still very strong. (Many of these were actually infuriated at her rework early afterwards, but I will admit this has increased her viability by QUITE A BIT.) I'd also like to disagree with the bit on Sion. Pre-Rework he was a strange champion, whose main role was "awkward" as you said, and yes, largely due to his "awkward scaling" (All AP). But he didn't really have trouble fitting into a team comp too much (He was the beginning of the Roaming mages, those Mobility boots, though). Lastly, for Evelynn, I'd just like to stress your emphasis on "after her nerf". Prior to the nerf she was really OP. That stun and perma-invisibility paired with the healing was insane.

I have to disagree with this list. I remember many games where Kat pre rework would just wreck face as an AD champ. Her Killer instance passes was very good. She snowballed very hard and fast back when she had it. Often times enemy team would GG when they saw Kat back then. This as also when we hast stats like dodge and other things. So Kat was a real beast. Dodging all the enemy skills and critting like a beast. Also no Cassiopeia rework? Come on. That rework while not changing her kit to much was a major improvement to her game play.

Someone who says Karma, Sion reworks really helped them... Has not truly played as or against a truly good Karma, Sion... Karma raw numbers in skills were totally broken and her passive gave her a good chunk of free ap. Sion, yeah I agree he was a mess between AD and AP, however you could built ap or ad whether you chose and you would be really broken. He had 2 Ap skills with 1.0 ap ration and high base damage and only 8 seconds cooldown to dominate mid-game. His other two skills were the best AD steroids the game has ever seen, combining the best extra AD skill and the highest attack speed & life-steal the game has EVER seen. Once you had decent crit & damage, you could chop the ENTIRE enemy team one by one. While some of the reworks were needed to make the champions viable, some also brought the idea of making them fair to play against.

Reworks, like the Karma and Sion ones, are a bad thing. Yes, they were maybe not played much and arguably bad, but even if their kit was weak, some buffs to stats or a change to say one of their abilities would bring the champion back up. There is no worse feeling than having your main removed, like my friend had with Karma. And even though the new champion are good, why don't just create a new champion and save the old one? For Karma, Sion, and maybe even Xerath, they really removed them and replaced them with someone with the same role and name.

Reworks happen for a reason guys! Just because YOU LIKE PLAYING THAT CHAMPION doesn't mean it's a healthy champion. That champion can get pretty frustrating to fight against, and not because out of skill but because of mechanics. It could be the other way around too. Some champions could get frustrating TO USE YOURSELF, which will definitely call for a rework or at least a buff. You guys should stop complaining about the old champions, unless they did something absolutely incomprehensible. Like make a tanky assassin . . . (Looks at Akali). Seriously though, for some reason she still destroys squishies while getting several tank items.

The Xerath rework sucked. Before he was a very unique champ, he was immobile which is exactly what made him special. If you didn´t like that you could pick lux, which he resembles far too much now. So what if he got buffed? If you think a rework is just good because it increases the power of a champion, well then, ehh I disagree. A rework should make a champion more fun and unique otherwise Riot should just change stats to buff/nerf champs. More or less the same can be said for the sion rework. He was such a unique champ as an AP carry, what is he now? A tank. Literally a tank with some CC. Nothing special about his kit, probably the worst rework ever.

Sivir is my main. I love everything about her. And I'm also gold division so she's very OP here because nobody knows how to counter her for some reason. I always dodge and bait with my shield and I always clean an entire lane full of minions in 4 or 5 seconds. Yeah. I'm one of those geeks who giggled when the patch "Sivir's passive 'fleet of foot' now activates with 'boomerang blade' too" came out. I also have all her skins because money is never enough for the glorious battle mistress. I would spend as much again for her if need be. ^_^ And then it gets weird. I played pre-reworked Heim once. Its pretty terrible. After that he became more potent to play. And for Viktor, I also played him both before and after rework for a long time, and before, his kit really involving upgrade the hexcore to laser and AP, nothing else. Now he's more of a utility champ with upgradeable skills. And he's got to keep his silent. Like how many champion left with silent these days.

The sivir update butchered her honestly. Her old W would almost 1hit people in lane and late game. She used to be really strong, now going back to the 3 bounces is cool, but losing that extra damage on the first bounce really hurts

Oh, okay. I was a bit confused as the video progressed by how you were judging the success of the reworks. Defining success via win-rate and competitive play to judge this list is probably the most objective way to do it, but my personal interest is more in how the reworks faired in terms of design goals. For instance, the Karma and Sion reworks are horrible failures as far as I'm concerned, as they more or less deleted the old characters and replaced them with entirely new ones with the same name. These new characters were better for the game, undoubtedly, but it's a stretch to even call them the same champion. Karma in particular stands out to me as a failure because her rework did little to retain her old identity or playstyle in the slightest. Sion never had much of an identity to begin with, so retaining his scaling health and shield was really all that was needed to keep the standout features of the kit. My personal opinion is that a true retooling of Karma's original kit (or at least the core idea that defines it: duality) should be implemented in game at some point as a new champion.

Sorry for the rant i am just so sad that they removed Karma :(

Karma and Evelyn were great pre-rework. I really wish they had kept karma's fans and the original look she had. Traditional Karma was a saving grace visually. I still love Karma but i liked her old passive better. Evelyn was not weak imo. I still have screenshots of me going 30+/-10/+15 honestly i can tolerate her rework however i don't like how her stealth works now.Can't go back i guess however i'll survive.

I prefer Evelynn as a high-mobility AD-caster rather than a mage.. Both ways can be good, but after the removal of the DFG (R.I.P.) Eve was found to be better with a strong and bursty AD-build

I don't think Evelynn became super strong after her rework. She was a weak champ and the rework made her a bit balanced and decent. What made her OP was the vision/warding changes in season 3 which also made Rengar and Khazix and pretty strong. Other than that, Trundle should have been on the list.

For me the old Katarina was super easy to play, I even used to main her. I think the new splash art is cool, but the ability changes made her definitely harder to play. I used to get Quadra Kills in almost every game but since the new Katarina I stopped playing her.

Uh... new ryze rework disappointing? It actually has mechanics like passive management. Know how and when to proc your passive is HUGE to the playstyle. Do it correctly and you can have your root on someone for the majority of a fight. His passive is actually really fun to play with instead of just saying "Here, spam." Like his old one did. The new one is more of "Plan out how to get 5 stacks... now spam correctly and utilize the shield so you can win the fight." Also, I 100% disagree with the final comment on Eve. While, yes, the rework was amazing to bring her out of a state so bad you could get reported for playing her, she is hardly a powerhouse. In season 4 she was in the trio of jungle gods (That being elise, lee sin, and evelynn) the change to the jungle heavily restricted her power. She can barely survive through a clear and if a pink ward is left unchecked she can easily lose her stealth advantage. She is no longer tanky since they nerfed her. (Around post season 4 I believe.) With the change to the jungle and direct nerfs, eve really is lack luster at the moment.

I contest the inclusion of the Heimerdinger rework because it ultimately ended up pretty pointless. Yes the new model and voice was great and he's a lot more fun to play and arguably a lot more viable- but he's still a joke and a troll pick because, on a very fundamental level, Heim sucks. Admittedly this is because they gave him a slew of nerfs after the initial rework (that almost ALWAYS happens, unless the rework comes out crappy in the first place) but when the reworked champion is ONLY played for the short period where he's blatantly OP because they're still tuning him, the rework was a failure. I probably would have replaced it with the Soraka rework from 4.17 (somewhere high on the list) or possibly the Master Yi rework from 3.10 (somewhere low).

Pawlok 13 Hitting her Q isn't a matter of luck rather how good the Soraka is at predicting and baiting. Their is strategy involved with her heal. When to use it, who to heal, and when to heal a minion to screw opponents cs.

Pawlok 13 Soraka is a really good support for solo que and is very easy to play. She has a niche others can not fill and she has great zoning tools in her Q and E. If you can't land your Qs then you should get better at aimin and predicting. Spend some time with Soraka and you will see why she is good and if you can't you probably not that good to really form an opinion on the matter...

Pawlok 13 She is better if you build ap. Sightstone and Zeke's is a must. Lucidity is the go too boots but since Soraka will end up with over 40% CDR Mobility, Mercury, or Ninja boots are good too. For the gold item the coin line is the best as it will help you get in and out plus the 100% health/mana regen. Frost Queen's claim is alright if you want to play a little more aggressive and for the ap scaling. Any combination of Ardent Censor, Thornmail, Frozen Heart, Abyssal Scepter, Mikeal's Crucible, Rabadon's Deathcap, Locket of the iron solari, and Zhonya's Hourglass depending on what you and your team needs. Ap and support items are best for her as she scales better with them than health. If your teammates are also building Spirit Visage your enemies will have a hard time killing them. You only need to learn how to kit, position, and land her Qs to do good with her. She was very strong in the Tank Meta but she should still be good as assassins still haven't taken over the game yet.

Soraka now is more than a mage than anything else, but people seem to don't get it. AP, Cdr, mana regen and Magic pen are the MOST important itemizations on her. If you just build raw life and tank status, she will scale nothing from it, and mostly become useless. She needs the AP, she can be very agressive, she have very good poke, CC, zoning and AoE damage, not to mention the HUGE heals (for herself, with her W passive, and allies) and the global assists and saves. Soraka mid/top ftw

Viktor wasn't a bad champion, in fact, I used him in pre-update to tryhard in rankeds when I was in midlane, since you couldn't lose with him. I am pretty bad the the new Viktor since his passive Item works only later in the game. Miss the old AP Tristana too :/

i can understand the karma rework making her a better champion, but it also made her boring as all get out... she lost her feel, and unique qualities... She may have been kinda weak, but that was mostly because the meta didnt favor her whatsoever. That was back when suppports weren't allowed to get any real items, and she was a very item dependent. I feel like old karma would be possibly over powered in todays meta. AOE % heal, great scaling with tank and ap items, and her old e, while extremely hard and quite frankly underwhelming, would be much better with the mobility creep we've seen since. I am, and will forever be, one of those traditional karma fans.

please don't read from wiki and talk here, kata was insanely good in lane that it was a bit too silly .Her Q did full damage on hit so she was able to farm harass with around double the damage on Q on live now and the bouncing was random which was harder to predict, her W when used with Q had a healing debuff so long that you can prema debuff with 10% cdr so any sustain champion was bad vs her. her E did around the same amount of damage as her W live and you couldn't just catch kata ever, since the cd was so short that she had it around 85% of the time in the lane. all of the is ok by me but when her Q was triggering spell vamp as a single target damage it was fuckin insane. really insane I mean really really insane. Q at level 7 heals her for around 80 hp her Q and she had it on a 7 sec cd was insane all these were post dodge removal funny how kata was an ad assassin but turned into an ap assassin, she had all of her spells ad scaling with a magic damage except for her E which scaled from ap. 1:1 but she was funny as hell now that I think about it xD

i'm so glad Soraka wasn't on this list. i feel like she's no where near as good due to the hp % damage heal. and her Q is really bad compared to what it used to be and the fact that it has a delay on the heal even at point blank range cast makes it hard to kite and take damage. the only good thing is the buff to her ult and her passive. i wonder if you'll do a top 10 worst champion reworks/updates.

I remember when I heard news about the Viktor rework. I loved Viktor straight from the start when I was browsing the champs for a pick to play. I loved his former kit and mained him as I do now, but the current kit is better. Annnyway, I heard about the rework in the forums and it didn't sound too exciting to me. It definitely caught my eye, being he was a very unpopular champ at the time. When they officially announced that they are going to see this through, I had a serious case of nerd boner. It brought a lot of things that was wrong about his kit to the table and actually fixed them.

Yesterday I buyed Evelynn. And people told me she was good as a jungler. So after level 6 and so, in the bot lane I saw that the adc was super low. 29 hp. So I got down there and said "yeee heed I'm gonna get first blood!" And pop ult thinking only ult will be needed to kill her. So I pop ult, and the adc didn't die. I chased the adc and didn't get him/her, and the jungler killed me. Then I went afk the whole game and we lost.

+Alex Theodosiou When she was reworked back then she her ult did up to 25% Max HP damage which was broken when it's AoE + it gave her 300 shield for every champion hit. So if she hit 5 she got 1500 in shield for 6 sec (I think it was). She was so ridicoulus and thankfully she got nerfed. Her ult is now dealing CURRENT health damage in stead of max health damage. It didn't ruin her, but it nerfed her potential of being a cleanup teamfighter (as you saw in the video). Her passive (the same today) made it nearly impossible to prevent her ganks/roaming - unless you invested in pink wards all the time. She got fed too easily and snowballed too easily as well.

Xerath? Are you kidding me? Before this pathetic update he was a beast. His stun was much, much better. His ulti had one of the highest dmg in the whole game and it was much wider. His W was one of the best skills in the whole game, no amount of mres could really affect him. You said that he had to be immobile to cast at long range. Yes, but W had a very short cd, so it was not a problem he had MS boost after it. Overall he was really great and they destroyed him by removing his mres penetration and giving him this shitty ulti which is very hard to land and which is not really usable in teamfights. Nowadays he is stronger in laning phase (which was still not bad), but much, much weaker in late.
