I might be too late but the bagels being as good as they are …. Will mold quickly . So there for most be kept in the fridge or freeze them .. I do freeze the muffins, just because we don’t eat them fast enough. I’m so sorry you were creeped out by that guy . Yay Costco for making you safer 💕 that’s where I go and have never had an issue other than snooty people thinking they are somehow more important than anyone else in the store ..

I also recommend using gloves or tongs to handle any bread or avoiding touching the other slices/pieces when pulling them out of a bag. I worked at several Walmarts and would often buy the “day-old/clearance” bread, which would often mold quickly, faster. There is a surprising amount of bacteria on our hands, so bread from our bakery would develop mold faster than say, Franz, which has less human contact and bagged by machine. That is unless you touch the bread, possibly counting slices or removing the butt-end.

My favorite thing to do with a Baguette is cut off a hunk and slice it longways and make a pizza with it. Add some tomato/pizza sauce, low moisture whole milk mozzarella, and whatever other toppings you like and maybe some red peppers and oregano. Thick sliced pepperoni is my favorite. Throw it in the oven at 425 for 12 minutes and you've got a nice pizza kind of thing. I use both the top and bottom for an open face sandwich kind of thing. It's really good and easy.

Truthfully, the first time I did it I was trying to copy something I saw in a restaurant. But it was so good I never saw a need to experiment with other breads. There used to be a french bread pizza available by the frozen pizzas in the grocery store that was kinda similar, but I haven't looked for it in years. But the baguette seems to get perfectly toasty and makes it easy to get the right topping to bread ratio (but that is a personal preference thing).

I'm super gluten intolerant and the croissants from Costco have always been one of my biggest cravings. They're the best croissants I've ever had, and I'm obsessed. I used to be so bad and get them and eat them even though I'd get extremely sick for a week after. It was like a cheat meal and I didn't do it very often but it was almost worth it😂

They are the BEST..got my wedding cake from them...and they also have a bread called white mountain bread that is AMAZING for any kind of sandwich..including grilled cheese and to make garlic toast...but also amazing with butter if you are having pasta and sauce or something like that!

Erin, if you like croissants with eggs on them, give another item a try - try chicken salad on them (& before you put the chicken salad on them, toast them like the person suggested to you - but omit the butter if that was included in the suggestion - you want it toasted). If you don't have a favorite chicken salad, try something like the chicken salad with cranberries at Aldi, or if you make your own, you can put little slices or very small chunks of apple in your chicken salad & then add a little bit of your favorite type of nuts. That will defiinitely elevate any chicken salad sandwich. Also, just a question, do they really not carry cranberry orange muffins at Costco?

Poppy seeds can contain very very small traces of opioids! Not even close to enough to make you feel any effect, but they do say that it can impact a urine drug screen depending on how much/recent you ate a food with poppy seeds. They used to tell us in college to avoid it on drug test mornings just in case 😂

I'll probably never get to try any of these because the construction of the only Costco in my area has been in progress for over 4 years and the town keeps blocking it. For the better though because i can't have bulk carbs like this around 😂 I have to ask: what beverage are you guys drinking? The Starbs i go to changed the vanilla sweet cream cold brew and now the baristas add WAY too much of the cream, so i was curious if this is a national problem i need to bring to their attention.

They do freeze well! I slice the muffins in half and bag each half in a freezer bag and store in freezer. I also store Costco's artisan rolls in the freezer because I toast them for sandwiches

One of my most wholesome memories is my grandmother buying those Costco muffins and when I was over, she would heat one up for me. I distinctly remember a chocolate one, I think a banana nut, and a blueberry. Makes me feel warm thinking about it... she's still around by the way lmao just not shopping there anymore. (Side note, I just bought blueberry muffins from Sam's Club and they're really dang good! Wonder how it stacks to Costco's now...)

On the poppy seed concern, op*um comes from a very specific type of poppy. In the 90s there were stories about people getting false positives on drug tests in some tv shows. I don't think it was ever a thing though.

We used to buy a poppy seed cake that was so good here near my house. One day a family friend found the recipe and wanted to make it, went to buy poppy seeds and in one or two places they told her that those were drugs lol. I’m glad “everything bagels” don’t have “everything”. Their basically have the flavors of some of the most common savory bagels. Poppy seed, sesame, onion and garlic, I believe. Glad they don’t add blueberry or raisin-cinnamon.

I have heard of someone who popped positive on a urine drug screen for opioids and they had to prove they ate a poppyseed pastry that day. So your fears are somewhat valid. It won’t make you high but could make you show positive for drugs.

You’re probably remembering being told to avoid poppy seed muffins/bagels before a drug test, because they might cause a false-positive. It would take a lot of poppy seeds (and some processing) to actually get a noticeable high.

Fun fact I had an obsession with everything bagels and found out I have a strange allergic reaction to poppy seeds and get seizures. Went to the hospital tested positive for opiates and it took the doctors a hot minute to realize it was from the poppy seeds.
