Lion King 2 is one of my favorite Disney movies, period, and part of that ranking is because of that fantastic soundtrack. It’s the only sequel OST I’d say stands equal to that of the original, from the gorgeous openings to the menacing, powerful rhythms of the villain songs to the sweet melodies of the love ballads. “One of Us” serves as a heart-wrenching followup to “Zira’s Lullaby” (and even ties back to “Be Prepared” by way of progression), “We Are One” presents Kiara’s character theme and pinpoints the differences between her and Simba as well as showcasing how much our Lion King has grown since his discussion with Mufasa about the ruler’s role in the Circle, and “Upendi” is a surprising matchup between the colorful visuals of “Just Can’t Wait to Be King” and the carefree, catchy fun of “Hakuna Matata.” Plus the soundtrack features Angelique Kidjo, who brings some powerful vocals to her rendition of “We Are One” for the album. You absolutely cannot go wrong with this album, no matter what mood you’re in.

I was wondering if anyone remembers 'Zira's Lullaby' , that song terrified me as a kid, and now that I'm older I love it.
@kadajsnightqueen2 жыл бұрын
@@jelenadjokic9843 It’s one of my favorite Villain songs, sometimes even *the* favorite. What sets it apart is just how creepy it is. Just like “Be Prepared,” it starts slow and subtle, with a brief statement by the primary singer. Then it drops the beat, musically announcing that our villain has something major to say here. Both Scar and Zira use their songs to lay out their plans for the Pridelands takeover, with the occasional humorous interjection from their minions, and we get a good look at their psychology and general brand of evil. “Be Prepared” has a steady upwards progression in its intensity, rising to a frenzy while Scar builds up his hyenas’ confidence in his plans and his promise of a glorious future under his rule, and it finally climaxes with the earth literally buckling and rising under their feet, lifting Scar above everybody else while he delivers more propaganda and finishes his song with its title. He stays pretty classy and reserved throughout most of the song, only raising his voice once to scare that one hyena as an example before it drops into the crevasse. In Zira’s case, she starts out simple enough by telling us a bit about herself and what she’s been through, and brings up this dream she has while slinking around and striking sensual poses. Then it turns about the darkest any Villain song ever has, with her eagerly describing the murder of both Simba and little Kiara (while two of her cubs acting out the events). She’s much more dramatic and menacing than Scar is, though just as physically abusive towards Nuka as he was with Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed. She stokes her lionesses’ drive for vengeance throughout the song while describing this bloody battle she hopes to bring about, the torture and death she plans to inflict upon the Pridelanders who kicked them out. These are potentially the most violent lyrics in any animated Disney song. But unlike “Be Prepared,” “Zira’s Lullaby” simmers down at one point, dropping back to its simple melody while the entire pride stares at Kovu in his cradle, nothing more than empty eyes in the dark. Nuka and Vitani reiterate the opening lyrics, and the beat drops a second time as the song transitions again. This time the drums are harder, driving faster while the harmonies become much deeper. It takes on a kind of rock concert style, with Zira holding Kovu’s predicted future and their bloody vengeance as a standard while literally digging herself out of the termite mound to perch atop the highest spire, reaching skyward in a dramatic pose as her pride joins her in belting out the song’s title one last time. Just like “Be Prepared,” it ends with laughter and one last searing flourish of notes to drive home the evil of these characters. Both sequences fade out with the villains and their minions posing against the sky, with Scar sitting regally atop his pillar while Zira is almost directing a chorus, like she’s preaching a sermon. Scar is looking down, and Zira is gazing skyward, where I’m sure she believes her beloved master is. “Be Prepared” has Nazi callbacks, which is creepy enough. But “Zira’s Lullaby” outdoes it with the sheer violence of its lyrics and imagery. The former is draped in the traditional Disney Villain color of lime green, whereas the lullaby sequence is presented in much warmer colors overall, mainly blood red and golden tans when it isn’t shrouded in dark blue shadows. There’s not a trace of lime green anywhere. Scar is a mainstream Villain, and Zira-while also a Villain-is much more angry and eager to kill. Her idol only got his hands dirty twice, to finish off his hated brother and try to kill his grown-up nephew. Zira planned a war, complete with sabotage and assassination, instead of just an assassination plot. She wanted blood, and lots of it. Unlike Scar, she doesn’t want to rule. Installing Kovu as King seems almost incidental to her, a side benefit. Her primary goal is to annihilate all those who rejected Scar and mortified her by siding with Simba, the “usurper” who supposedly caused his death before kicking her out and leaving her to live a desperate existence out in the badlands. She is eager to kill all of the Pridelanders, even Kiara, who wasn’t even born when the Outlanders were sent away, and she doesn’t want a quick death for them. She wants slow cruelty, to look into their eyes as they gasp their final breaths and bathe her paws in their blood, but she intersperses this desire with brief moments of supposed love for her son, hiding her true face behind a mask of maternal care right before diving back into her plan to mold him into a heartless killer, a tool for her vengeance. Scar made no such pretenses during his song, he just built up his hyenas’ faith in his plan and declared his intention without giving any hint as to exactly what he planned to do. Zira makes it abundantly clear what she’s after, and it certainly paints a vivid picture.

In my opinion, Return to Neverland is not only one of the best Disney sequels of all time but also even better than the first. While the first one still sets as a nostalgic wonder for me, Jane’s struggle to choose between growing up or still having the imagination of a child is understandable, especially when she’s living through a war in England. The songs may include pop songs instead or original songs, but the song “I’ll Try” still sticks a chord in my heart.

Agreed! I'm biased, because I love Peter Pan stories, but I always thought Return to Neverland was one of the better Disney sequels. The animation is actually pretty good, especially compared to a lot of the other 90s and early 2000s sequels, the story is good, the characters of Peter, Hook and the Lost Boys are still memorable and fun, and I did like Jane's arc. Yes, she comes off as initially uptight and controlled, but I liked that it was an exploration of what a child would be like growing up in the middle of a war; the whole point is it's hard for Jane to believe in stories about magic and fun when her entire life has been turned upside and her family lives in danger of being bombed. And of course, to this day I contest that the ending scene where Peter meets a grown Wendy is one of the most emotional Disney moments.

Yeah, I agree. I've never been a big Peter Pan movies fan, but the sequel surpasses the original, imo. Jane is a better, more fleshed-out and flawed character, and her friendship with Peter feels more like a real friendship between kids. Her inner conflict is also conveyed much better.
@staceyrox3602 жыл бұрын
Soooo agree! I also find Peter Pan is a nicer kid in it, Like yeah he’s a troublemaker but he’s a massive jerk in the first one, in the sequel he’s still a troublemaker but he knows when he’s gone too far and often apologises. It’s nice! Plus Jane and Peter are so cute together omg

Even though it is a "girl movie", as a little boy I really identified with Melody. Just like me, Melody has social anxiety disorder, was often seen as a weirdo by her peers, had trouble with meeting new people and often daydreamt while alone. This may be a hot take, but I think Melody is better written than Ariel. Unlike Ariel in the first movie, Melody actually grows as a character in her movie since her journey makes her realize that she should accept who she is and improve upon her flaws rather than trying to escape them.

"We Are One" is like a mixture of Sister Act 2 of "Pay Attention" and Harry Potter of what Dumbledore said in GoF "We may come from different places and speak in different tongues, our hearts beat as one". Say with Hunchback 2, the whole story is purely focused on Quasimodo getting a girlfriend because a lot of fans were pretty upset he didn’t win Esmerelda’s love in the first movie, a lot of people were pretty mad she ended up with Phoebus instead. So the sequel focused so much more on Quasimodo’s relationship with a random girl Madeline, but the problem is Madeline herself is not a very well written character and I’ve seen a lot of people call her bland and clumsy. And the movie doesn’t really have any believable moments to actually prove the two are falling in love and are perfect for each other. It doesn’t help the only reason why Madeline agreed to a date was because her greedy boss forced her to seduce Quasi to get him away from the bell tower. So it makes it less believable she’s actually enjoying herself with Quasi and deeply regrets tricking him into believing she was romantically interested in him. Aside from the romance, a lot of the original characters barely appeared in the movie and both Esmerelda and Phoebus are pretty awful in the movie. Phoebus is skeptical of the circus being in town and even compares them to the Romani, which Esmerelda gets rightfully p*ssed off at him. But the problem is, Phoebus was actually correct in his skepticism when the movie shows Saruge is behind all the recent crimes and robberies, making such an awful and disgusting impression the movie is basically reinforcing negative Romani stereotypes as thieves and criminals that are always on the move for a reason. Esmerelda doesn’t even apologize for doubting her husband even after she can see he was right, so it makes them so unlikable. Same can be said about Pocahontas 2. Let’s just say as someone who absolutely loved the first movie as a kid and didn’t really care about the historical context, the sequel was beyond disappointing and straight up insulting. I don’t like how this video straight up refused to actually explain why the sequel was so bad, all it did was poop on the original movie as well and complained “Pocahontas was a real person, shame on you Disney!” And I get so tired whenever I do see someone reviewing either movie but all they do is complain about how many historical inaccuracies they spotted in both films. If you’re not gonna judge the DISNEY film as a fictional movie, then just don’t review the film at all. You don’t make bloodbaths when you review other Disney movies with grisly origin stories, like Hunchback, Pinnochio, Rapunzel (etc)

Gotta agree that the whole TLK 2 soundtrack is amazing! My other favourite sequel soundtrack is Brother Bear 2

we had SO MANY of these sequels on VHS....also Bambi 2, The Jungle Book 2, both Cinderellas, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Pocahontas, both Aladdins, Mulan, etc. The Lion King 2 and The Little Mermaid 2 are probably my favorites

Zira's lullaby in Lion King 2 should be on this list. It's one of the best Disney villain songs of all time.

At last!!! A video where The Lion King two is #1 on the list. Lion King 2 is my favourite Disney sequel, always have been and always will be. For me, it's the only Disney sequel that did the first movie justice and didn't stray too far from the original storyline. Thank you for making my day. ❤❤❤

I'm so glad that movies like Lady and the Tramp 2 and especially The Lion King 2 get the love they deserve. Both are great sequels and Simba's Pride especially shines as one of the best.

I really liked Return to Neverland as a kid. “I’ll Try” was my favorite. As far as Lady and the Tramp 2, I liked “World Without Fences” and “Didn’t Know That I Could Feel This Way” better in the movie. “For a Moment” was good too 😊

I'm surprised that neither "Like Other Girls" nor "Lesson Number One" from Mulan II even got an honorable mention. When I think about all the low-budget Disney sequels, those two songs immediately come to mind (as well as every song from The Lion King II, of course).

10:50 Although I will admit "He Lives In You" is amazing, I think "Love Will Find a Way" is a MUCH BETTER song. I was only six when The Lion King 2 came out and that song became an instant love with me because it was "so beautiful." When I got older, it became my favorite because of the beautiful lyrics and how it NEVER fails to make me happy cry EVERY SINGLE TIME I hear it, even to this day at 31 years old! The Lion King 2 may not be my favorite film of the series, but the song is definitely all time favorite of them all!

YES! He Lives in You is #1! It's actually one of my favorite Disney Songs (dispite it being in a direct to video sequel. At least it's not a bad direct to video sequel). Speaking of which, where's Show Yourself from Frozen 2 and We Belong Together from Toy Story 3?

Some of the ones I’m pretty disappointed weren’t mentioned: -I Remember: Ariel’s Beginning -We Are One: Lion King 2 -He Lives in You: Lion King 2 -Love Will Find a Way: Lion King 2 -My Lullaby: Lion King 2 -Le Jour De Amor: Hunchback 2 -Brother Bear 2 soundtrack -Where Do I Go reprise: Pocahontas 2 -Between Two Worlds: Pocahontas 2 -Bambi 2’s entire soundtrack -Feel the Jungle Rhythm: Jungle Book 2 -Lesson Number One: Mulan 2 -I Wanna Be Like Other Girls (both versions): Mulan 2 Sidenote, I don’t think Frozen 2 should count because it had a massive budget in comparison to most Disney sequels which were done by Disney Toons, not Walt Disney Studios which does the big screen productions.

The Fox and The Hound 2 is an off the wall bonkers concept, but oh does the soundtrack slap. Reba as a diva dog is everything I never knew I needed. It's crazy they got that many country legends together and no one talks about it. My favorite is We're in Harmony, with a special shoutout to Vicki Lawrence in that number.

What makes the sound track for the Lion King 2 awesome is that it manages to feel nostalgic, in a way, for the first film without feeling like a rehash of the first film.

Top 3 (In my opinion): 1. When She Loved Me 2. Into the Unknown 3. Diggah Tunnah The top 2 was very tight, it took me roughly a month that I lost track of thinking, but now coming back to it, I finally made a decision, and here's my reasoning for this. Both sequel songs shined so well compared to songs from the original and how it still show dominance of their each respective great trilogies, but the one difference that just put When She Loved Me over Into the Unknown was the amazing soothing music from Randy Newman and the emotional story and message behind the song which I felt close to than Elsa's powerful and enthusiastic tone and its music, I felt Pixar had some very interesting songs compared to Disney to be honest and that's surprising.
