I think calling it "fake songs" is a bit of a stretch. Since "fake" implies that it's not an original work. A more appropriate title is "songs written specifically for a movie/tv show"

They mean fake bands. While some of these actors/actress did sing in real life the characters they were playing were separate and the songs only became hits because of the fans, it wasn’t the goal of the movie. So its technically fake because it doesn’t actually exist in our world, its as fake as the rest of the movie. It’s not like Muse, Céline Dion or Elton John making real songs for movies.

I do not think it is a stretch since these would be songs popular in a fake universe, sung by fake bands. They are fake because they exist within the story that is made up.

I do not agree. In this instance, "fake" does not imply the work is not original. The songs are "fake" because they are performed by "fake" bands/singers that only exist within the world of the film. For example, there is no band in real life, comprised of Rosario Dawson, Rachel Leigh Cook, and Tara Reid, named "Josie and the Pussycats" P.S.- I responded to this days ago, with a similar reply. It somehow disappeared. I got a notice when someone else replied to the thread, only to find my reply gone. Weird 🫤

Seriously, there are at least 3 more songs from Sing Street that belong on this list (and certainly in place of some of the choices on the list). "The Riddle of the Model", "To Find You" and "Up" - all gorgeous tunes, period appropriate, remarkable performances. That said, I'd have settled for a tune or two from "Music and Lyrics", some of which you could have potentially included if you'd counted the early years of "PoP!" as the teen part of the movie.

First of all Tell Me something I Don't Know from Another Cinderella Story deserves to be on this list. Second the best part about Scotty Doesn't know is that the song follows them throughout the movie. A remix of it plays in the night club where they drink absinthe. It's the elevator music in Mieke's building and eventually Cooper makes it his ringtone.
