"On the Dark Side" is a song by fictional American rock band Eddie and the Cruisers, it spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Rock Tracks chart. John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band served as the real-life, officially uncredited stand-ins for the fictional Cruisers on the recording (as they did for the rest of the soundtrack album)

What about: 1) Eddie and the Cruisers (1983)-On The Dark Side and Tender Years (actually performed by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown band) became Top 40 hits 2) Bandslam (2009)-I Would Give Anything I Own was actually an old Bread song, but Vanessa Hudgens absolutely gave a stellar performance on the song. 3) The Rocker (2008)-Promised Land-written for the movie is a banger 4) Get Crazy (1983) The Blues Had a Baby and They Named It Rock and Roll-written by Muddy Waters and performed by BB King lookalike Bill Henderson is just awesome. I'm Not Going to Take It No More, performed by Lori Eastside gives Joan Jett vibes.

Bandslam definitely should've got an honorable mention. The song I would've chosen from the movie is Someone to fall back on, the ballad Aly sings. Also I just assumed they were singing the *NSYNC version of Everything I own.

I have to say the entire "Music and Lyrics" soundtrack is a joy. "Meaningless Kiss" is sooo close to Careless Whisper (the movie is a riff on a band that is obviously Wham) and Way Back into Love is a sweet pop ballad. Plus who can fail to laugh at Love Autopsy?

"When it comes to one hit wonders, you can't get much bigger than this" which is why it is way down at #10? "That Thing You Do" is top 2 for sure, IMO. Also, "Dance With Me Tonight" is as good as 3/4ths of this list. Maybe I am mistaken but I was pretty sure "Falling Slowly" was on an album by Hansard's band The Frames before it appeared in the movie. "Pretend to Be Nice" was also written by the late, great, Adam Schlesinger. Mike Viola (Who sang "That Thing You Do") wrote songs for the movie Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, whose omission here is rather perplexing as it it a movie all about a fake music artist and has a couple of absolute killer cuts in the title song and the movie closing "Wild Ride." I'd also give The Boss some love for his song "Light of Day" from the movie of the same name starring Michael J. Fox and Joan Jett as siblings in a band.

But there's another film centered around musicians from 1984 (or 1983 maybe) that stars a very young Willem Dafoe, Diana Lane, and Michael Paré called STREETS OF FIRE. "Tonight Is What It Means to Be Young" and "Nowhere Fast" are great tunes from the film but "I Can Dream About You" is the song from STREETS OF FIRE that I still find myself singing decades after the film was released! And look, I love Once and Glen and Marketa - BUT - Falling Slowly was on The Frames album 'The Cost' a year before the film came out so it is very difficult to still pretend it is a "fake" song. Without doubt it deserved the Oscar, but when a song was on an album a year before the film was even released then surely the questions have to be asked. And yes it was on their Swell Season Album released later, but the first exact same version was released on an album and should not be on this list.

Some missing gems and additional wisdom!!!! 'Machinery of Torment' from Metal Lords is an absolute killer tune. 'Prisoner' from The Beat Beneath My Feet. 'Glasgow ( No Place Like Home)' from Wild Rose. I'm not including any of the songs from Once because they are all songs on The Frames and Swell Season albums, so I'm not going to consider these just "Film" songs - but pretty much every single one of them tops this list in addition to 'Falling Slowly'.
