The only sort of family car I saw was the Citreon C4 picasso. I believe the Citroen C3 picasso should be on here too as it's also family friendly, smaller in size and has a large feel to it but is actually not that big! Great for parking in busy city centres ^_^

Is your family made up of giants? Most families of 4 can manage in a hatchback just fine. Just shove on a roofbox when you go holidaying. Pointless driving an SUV around with a near empty boot 99 times out of 100.

Your definition of a family car is strange. Half of these cars (the hatchbacks) are way too small for familys with more than two children...or grandparents. Even with two children they might be too small for going on vacation when you need a buggy.

Kia/hyubdai make good cars but have a ton of problems with their electronics like rear cameras, nav etc and thats not covered under the 5 year warranty

***** C4 Picasso and Ford B-Max are ugly as fuck,I don't like the new front of Ford Focus because it's an Aston Martin rip-off,Škoda Yeti's interior is terrible.Kia Ceed looks boring,Seat Leon is just like Golf,but cheaper,And i don't like small sedans,so Octavia is out too! 3 cars are left. ***** sorry they don't keep the value better they give that sensation only, if you pay more on the start its normal that the car will be more expensive in second hand than a car that costed less, toyota holds its value, because is cheaper new than VW but cost the same or more when used... by the way i would prefer a peugeot 308 over any car on this list, its a better car, more modern...

rui518 Its not about the boots when it comes to cars. Peugeot still has questionable reliability. Also while the 308 seems like a French Golf it still has some little flaws as well, like steering wheel is blocking the dials/"clocks".

I do believe the 308 is an excellent car, my neighbour has had one since September and is very pleased with it, he had a MK7 Golf before! The Golf was riddled with problems and most of the time he had a courtesy car, so in the end VW took it back. I think with the 308s steering wheel, it's a matter on your driving position, some will like it, and some won't.

MS well you should be very small like 1.50 if it blocks the dials, that can happen in a 208 not in the 308 and if it his happening is because you have a bad driving position, the car don't have that many flaws, it has the class leading diesel engines, whit also very good petrol engines whit perfect stop start systems, new gearbox are much better special the automatic, good build very good materials, extras that only found normally in upper class... and it is still cheaper than a golf!!

it's a reliable car and because it shares parts with VW, parts are easy to find and not that expensive. So it's maintenance is quite cheap, on the par with Škoda.

XtrAMassivE Thing is, some of those parts are not on par with the ones mounted in the Golf or A3. Octavia and Leon are both cheaper than the Golf but quality is also a little bit lower.

sic22l well yeah but they are overall still reliable cars and easy to maintain. Many service parts are the same as used on a golf, but probably not the same generation. We had a škoda and a seat in the past and the parts usually were compatible with golf. Maybe not same quality as original golf parts but I don't know. .

So SEAT Léon is the best family car available? For me you guys have lost all your credibility. There are only 4 cars on this list that can pass as family cars: Citroën C4 Picasso, Skoda Yeti, Skoda Octavia and Ford B-Max. The rest are a collection of *small* hatchbacks and sedans. Jesus, even your #1 is a stripped down, cheaply built, version of your #5. This annoys me since I now suspect you to be one of those paid reviewers who "review" cars for money, thus misinforming the consumer.

All right, this vid was uploaded in February 2015, and on the Carbuyer website this top 10 was updated for the last time in January of this year. And still the new and acclaimed Vauxhall Astra, which got an excellent review from this very car review channel, is nowhere to be found on the list. Instead, you get the VW Golf, Seat Leon and Skoda Octavia (the three of which happen to be rather similar), and the equally closely related Hyundai i30 and Kia Cee'd. Seems like this top ten doesn't really do justice to the diversity of this car segment...

CPT_ROB They are better than in 1994 but they're still far from the best. They're still bland to drive, cheap inside, have mediocre engines, fairly expensive to run and not exactly cheap compared to Leon or Focus. Long warranty also has a catch, lots of the actually - it's simply regular 2 year warranty for everything and another 5 years for limited number of components like engine block. I think both Focus and 308 are much better offers.

I have a skoda octavia diesel 2014 and after 6 months driving it and 10k miles, I hate it. A lot of steering wheel vibrations, sunroof rattles, trunk door doesn't close until 5 attempts, awful support... Please don't buy it

A family car must be practical, very comfortable, quiet, riding bumps and humps well, easy to drive, with great visibility, and reliable. Why on earth is Carbuyer considering "fun to drive" and "looks" as main factors? I am not saying that they don't count. But they would be the last thing I would consider for a FAMILY car.
