The bigger movies that came out this year from Telugu cinema were quite the hit and miss for me! Devara as expected was a let down, I am mixed on Pushpa 2, GOAT was a let down, Mathu Vadalara 2 was mid sequel but it was damm funny😂 🤣 Kalki 2898 AD was ambitious albeit suffering from commercial tropes at times, I absolutely loved Hanu-Man and Maharaja😍🤧💖🤩 and the less said about Martin, Ismart and Guntur Karam the better!!

I'm happy that a lot of people are watching and recommending Malayalam films these days! There are a lot of gems from many years ago too that I think many people should watch, by directors like Sathyan Anthikkad, Fazil, Lal Jose, Ranjith, Lohithadas etc. but I do understand that it's probably less accessible considering older films aren't as subtitled or dubbed. I hope that with this increase in interest in the Malayalam film industry that more older movies get subtitled and/or dubbed too because there are just so many more beautiful films to discover for those who are just getting into this language of films :)

“Not a single Kannada movie made it to the list. I’m not complaining, but we’ve been expressing our frustration with Sandalwood for a long time, and it feels like no one listens. All the good movies out there share a common pattern: a solid script (because writers are valued and paid well), excellent direction (where the director is respected and professionally trained), a hero who doesn’t overshadow the director or producers, and top-notch production quality with a skilled technical team. Unfortunately, these qualities seem to be missing in Sandalwood.”

Never enjoyed a movie as much as I enjoyed AAVESHAM, in a long, long time. It was a movie that showed how a MASS entertainer should be made. "Keep your brains at home and enjoy" is what people say when they talk about mass movies that become blockbusters. To that, I say, "Why? Why should I be dumb to enjoy a movie?. Why can't I enjoy a movie WITH brains?" And that's what I felt while watching AAVESHAM. Intelligently written, tongue-in-cheek (the dumb charade scene was a hoot!) and a great background score...all added to make it a smart entertainer. I've already watched it two times. Another movie that came close to this kind of entertainment was RIFLE CLUB. Again, what a movie! Clever writing, witty dialogues, great performances and a super background score! It's No.3 in my list and AAVESHAM is, surprisingly!, No.2. Why? Because the top slot for me is BRAMAYUGAM - a masterclass in movie making. It's right up there in the best of WORLD CINEMA list. A must-watch in theatre, it's a movie that made me marvel at how you don't need a huge budget to make a world-class film. It's a movie meant for connoisseurs. That said, I'm sure there will be many Mallu haters, AAVESHAM-haters in particular, who would want to pounce on my comment and post their hatred. All I can tell them is, "Let it out, guys. Have a field day. I promise not to respond." Ciao!

2024, my list goes(I might have missed a couple) : -99 Curry Mee - just so so so very bad 1 The Movie Emperor - my favourite genre and flawless It's A Summer Film! - Barefoot! Key Of Life - The funniest movie out of Japan 2 Petite Maman - whimsical modern tale with time travel the sort of story Paul Gallico writes of, some people clapped at the end. 18x2 Beyond Youthful Days - just because it is Love Letter 2.0 Maharaja - incoherent vignettes until the denouement and then as haunting as Omayra Sanchez Bloody Beggar - On par with Kung Fu Hustle 3 Siren - mind boggling but has one defect 4 Palm Springs - enjoyable insane update to Groundhog Day Madgaon Express - laughs from beginning to end Aavesham - Fahadh Fassil, why else Broker - well crafted and acted Handsome Guys - A Korean remake. Just slightly less funny than Bloody Beggar. 5 Yolo - just so inspiring, if you don't have heart/kidney problems, you could rebuild yourself in a year Shinda Shinda No Papa - Jelly The Lyricist Wannabe - There's just something about a schoolgirl sporting a fake mustache. 6 Sheriff - Giler plot twists. But it has more flaws otherwise could have shared the podium with Siren. 7 Happy Dragons - enjoyable like Adoii Jiwaku 8 Fighter - beats Top Gun hands down plus Maverick can't dance like this Bloody Beggar has novel/unique ROFL jokes which is why it ranks above Aavesham.

This is the fate of our Kannada movies. Despite good movies are coming it will always remain underrated. Main reasons is our own Kannada people don't go to theater to which these movies (excluding star hero movies) n naturally buzz will not be created. Now, coming to Bhageera, Bhairathi Ranagal, UI n Max though it has/is got/getting good response in Karnataka.... not sure if the movie is not accessible to review OR purposefully ignored. The reason why I get this feel is every industry mass movie is being reviewed (even non-pan India movie) but our industry's mass movies are ignored in this channel.
