Blessed Baraka has grown on me. I bought it in October 2021 and wasn't sure what to think of it to be honest. I would have given it a 6/10. I left it on the shelf for a while and recently tried it as it's getting cold here in the UK. Man it's great! It's smoothed out a lot more with it being bottled up on my shelf for months. I now would give it a 9/10. Side Effect is amazing!!!!

Yeah, and it's weird too because most fragrances I either like it or don't, but it's almost like the scent itself changed to me. It went from "eh, third best tops" to being possibly my favourite. I think it's partly because the complexity takes time to appreciate, and the really rich underlying tones ring louder and more sharply defined as you get used to it, whereas it just had this overbearingly strong smoke smell that lingered after drydown, but somehow after trying it multiple different days it smells like it fits in the right place. I did pick up Mystic Experience for $150 on a sale, and I love it. Idk why, it's just so warm, rich, and comforting, just barely unisex (female friend said it smelled too feminine) but still unisex enough for a guy to pull off(imo at least, could be wrong). Blessed Baraka leans in to the masculine much more, especially drydown. I think that's the kind of thing you could honestly pull off with some effort in multiple situations, like a wedding or business meeting if you really want to be remembered. Don't think it's a really good youngboy thing, a teenager couldn't pull it off and imo someone in early 20s might also struggle, I see it as best in late 20s through 40s. (but, that's all just personal opinions)

@@pandemicneetbux2110i don’t see a problem with a teen pulling this off, that’s mostly with heavy tabaco and leather fragrances that are difficult to pull off by younger people. That’s if the fragrance isn’t blended well which every initio is in my opinion.

@pandemicneetbux2110
@pandemicneetbux2110 2 жыл бұрын
OFH is divisive for some reason, never sampled it but sounds polarizing for some reason (or maybe OFG just set a high bar too?) Rehab is a cinnamon bomb, nice, but Side Effect is way better. If you like gourmand, check out Mystic Experience. Now I have no idea where they came up with the names for some of these, it's more like Pastry Buffet or The Baker's Experience, but it's really good for a gourmand, has a rich, chocolatey, almost cherry tart-like effect. Very sweet, but not cloyingly so, the perfect winter Netflix-and-chill in pajamas with a fire going. Alternatively, check out Blessed Baraka. It's sweet, but pulls back, spicy, but well blended, has a concrete opening through drydown, boozy opening that becomes this really rich sweet smokiness. Definitely one of the more masculine ones.

Like Initio perfumes a lot, own 3 of them but cannot justify the price point given that most of them remind of other perfumes on the market and they are not natural smelling. Psychedelic love is my fave tbh. Great review ❤

I dunno, I've found a few which I like it's just I really want to harp on them for that absurd $330 or 385 USD pricetag, which is NOT worth it. It's even funnier with their fails, like Divine Attraction, that basically just smells like a campfire. I mean, they got that campfire smell down pat, but I ain't payin' almost as much as an RX 6700XT just to smell like a redneck in June or some bougie hipster who just got back from Burning Man with another bougie Capitalist scheme in his head and burnt Palo Santo in his ashtray. Meanwhile, there are indeed brands that does it better but at the same time it's not always cheaper, like the way Lattafa replicates it with Oud for Glory, or allegedly Purple Effect/After Effect, Lattafa's Amethyst etc. may be massively cheaper sure, and Oud for Glory ironically works better on my skin than Initio's, sure. But in the case of Side Effect, the best version I have ever smelled is Eye of Seven Hills by Alghabra, being much better in every single respect than Side Effect but costing a whopping $235 USD in the states for a 50ml. So, ironically, in a sense Initio is actually the more "budget brand" for Side Effect, but in the real unenviable position where they're not particularly good at anything, neither the best at price and value (lol) nor are they the best at longevity, nor best at projection and sillage afaik, nor is Side Effect the best at raw materials, nor is Side Effect the best blended or better smelling, it's just simply kinda there for the nouveau riche "I can afford Initio and have heard of it" crowd, but not quite at the level of people who'd afford the classiness of Alghabra's EoSH. I say this, but knowing full well Initio's grown on me, and that I'd really like to buy a bottle of Blessed Baraka at some point and already like Mystic Experience, but then again the one cost me significantly less than $200 so while still absurdly expensive feeling for what you get, it was close to reality. I think they're not justifiable above $200 really.

@@Digizella yeaaah but, still, that's an incredible amount of money not only at retail but then going on a payment plan if it's charging interest yeesh. I mean, I got mine for $150, and I seen they mostly on ebay for like $200 which is my maximum threshold for even considering it, unless it's like Oud for Greatness where I can't consider $385 when I can get a $30 bottle of Oud for Glory that smells better on my skin (but doesn't last as long and isn't in that well blended slightly higher definition range of Initio)

@@pandemicneetbux2110 I agree, the topic of fragrances is a very subjective one. And, not only that, but fragrances CAN smell differently on anyone (depends on the individual’s skin tone, pheromones, etc.). It is very pricey for me too, but I collect them, I never used them! It’s nice to look at & feel “sophisticatedly rich” 😉. Still, having 1 great, unique fragrance is like owning something of high value. I was targeting the ones you wouldn’t normally get in a big Perfume store (like the big one in The Bay, here in Canada). So, I also got “Black Afgano” by Nasomatto (the creator behind it is an Italian named Alessandro Gualtieri), which is rumoured to have hints of hash in it, some say even cannabis. It has notes of “green notes, woodsy, tobacco, coffee, agarwood (aka OUD), amber, musk & incense.” It’s a small 30 ml bottle (unisex) & with a top cap that reminds you of those local’s traditional tall hats that are made of sheep wool (the actual fragrance top is made out of wood, with imperfections, done on purpose as to make it more “realistic” & mystical, I guess. My friend who had suggested it to me, would get it for €250! But, he got me so curious about it. After some online research & some net browsing, I managed to get a “TESTER”, unopened & new. It only has the label “tester” on it, of course…I bought it for about CAD $175. (With AfterPay). Yet, you cannot use more than 1-2 sprays. If overdone, it looses its true essence… but, like INITIO, NASOMATTO has its own collection of fragrances…

Yeah for real. Don't mind me and the negativity/hyper criticism above, it's mostly just down to my issue with Initio's pricing ~$330 USD for 90ml (that I think, and I'm not alone on this, people have taken similar issue with a variety of fragrances from Creed to who was it, Laurent Mazzone? Agonist? I can't remember) where we reach a point of expecting more or having some fundamental standard. On purely a blind sniff, no mentioning anything else, Oud for Greatness, Blessed Baraka, and Side Effect are all masterful fragrances for what they do, as themselves, judging them purely on their own, and imho Mystic Experience and Rehab should also be up there (Rehab I think doesn't get mentioned as much because the strong cinnamon is probably more polarizing). Then again, I've only smelled 6 of their fragrances, so 5/6 being worth mentioning and me thinking one in two are worth picking up is pretty good odds. It's definitely a brand for those who like rich, deep, niche kind of fragrances. Absolutely unapologetic in their refutation of the YSL/Sauvage/Gucci/Code kind of thing, and I definitely appreciate them for that.

Yeah I know right? I mean don't get me wrong, but we're talking like, nVidia tier here, where it's basically just not worth the money and feels like they're high on their own farts. I absolutely love the presentation, the marketing material, the gorgeous purple prose itself is what appeals to me most (srsly, just the writing for Blessed Baraka is Torment: Tides of Numenera tier and utterly unapologetic and I love it), but while the scents themselves can be great I just don't think they have enough depth to justify it at all. Mostly what they got is longevity, mixed with some really, really nice fragrances that are, well, thoroughly blended to the point of often not even knowing what note you're smelling (not necessarily a bad thing, see also: Armani and YSL for example, they're great but then again they cost double digits for a bottle usually) and fairly linear, like it's cool if they basically just do one note really, really well and do it with some really great staying power such as how Mystic Experience works, that I think some people can appreciate over really complex and changing smells (we don't all need that Khalta Blend or Amouage Iris Interlude rollercoaster, it's like Borderline Personality Disorder in a bottle) but at the same time...yeah I do kind of expect that from a $200+ bottle of perfume/cologne to change. I mean, like even Armani Code actually changes, and it does so quite well and fluidly showing its various different sides in a harmony, it's like an olfactory symphony with some of these, but Initio is no concerto, and in the case of one like Divine Attraction, I can literally only smell one note. DA has just this burnt campfire smell, no, no smores, not even that, it's just the part of a log you pull from the fire where it's black between the coals and unburnt wood. So if that is what they're going for they pulled it off really, really, really well...but do you really want to spend $200+ on that? Do you really expect me to? I'd have more fun blind buying 7 Lattafa to play with, unless you're working on layering Eau de Burnt Wood in Campfire with something else and absolutely need something strong, pungent, and never changing that lasts forever. But for the rest of us? Yeah nah. I don't mean to be such a hypercritical dick and I can unironically both appreciate what the house is doing and set my sights on some of them, but sometimes buying Oakleys that are just the same sort of plastic as trucker gas stations, or getting the newest iCrap or $200 t shirt, doesn't impress me, isn't a good flex, and basically just makes me think you're really really bad with your money unless you're a trustfund kid. While Initio doesn't quite reach that "I took $50,000 of my parent's money and blew it on NFTs" type of fiscal irresponsibility--they are indeed good fragrances--I find it hard to justify going for Oud for Greatness over Oud for Glory particularly when they're so not only nearly identical, but Glory smells better on my skin, and I'm being asked to pay $385 USD for the one that smells bad on my skin, and stays linear from open to close. So while it can certainly achieve that "look how much money I can waste" effect to flex on your friends (honestly you should be flexing your taste or wits, or anything other than profligacy) it doesn't even really achieve that, with Alghabra's Eye of Seven Hills being a much better quality and better smelling near-clone of Side Effect. This leaves us with the muddy, unchanging scents themselves, that I frankly do adore in some instances, but am hard pressed to justify it in multiple other ones, such as Rehab for example, which is basically a strong cinnamon flanker of Blessed Baraka or Side Effect, or ones where their main advantage over a dupe is the branding and pricetag itself like Oud for Glory unless you've got a keen enough nose (I can tell the difference, but ironically it's because OfGreatness smells much more sharply defined, clearer, higher definition, than the muddier OfGlory which smells like smelling 1080p vs 1440p), or even on some level what's considered by most to be their ace-in-the-hole, Side Effect, if for no other reason than not only Fragrance World and another company made dupes (idk their quality tbh but Aromatix said Purple Effect was on par) but perhaps worse in a sense, Alghabra is the higher quality clone of Side Effect. Which leaves you with near-top dollar prices for not even the best in at least one case which I know. I'd personally say that they become really worth it and suddenly shine better as fragrances when you reach the $150-220 marks, in which case some of the scents are absolutely bang-on. I mean again, there's a place for something that does something perfectly well and is just that but linear, but it's just really hard for me to swallow the $300+ pricetag on something that's frankly nowhere near as good as Man in Black by Bvlgari (to me personally) while also being wholly bereft of full journey for which many niche and designer fragrances are known, and perhaps hardest for me when my two favourite scents atm is really basic Code EDT and Man in Black, or D&G The One Intense, which are true orchestral scores of the nose and truly work from beginning to end as composition pieces whose individual instruments one can pick out but without standing out and ringing loudly like a cowbell. It doesn't reach that BPD-tier "I f'ing hate you!" mood whiplash of Amouage or Khalta, sure, but that's because it feels like it doesn't really try in some cases (or the only note is a cowbell, like Divine Attraction). Maybe I'm being too hyper-critical, but only because I really wanted to like that brand, and in a lot of ways I really do and it's I think the only brand of over $200 retail listings I'm considering buying a second bottle from their lines, for what it's worth (so in other words, I am a fan of it). Or maybe it's because I just really don't like it when companies try leaning in too hard to their marketing in order to justify what I see as outrageous prices (which as hinted earlier, in the cases of things like nVidia, Apple, and Dell's alleged "Alienware" line, are literally preying on consumer ignorance and working entirely off brand recognition that, if you know anything about computer hardware itself and like it the way a car guy likes cars, becomes a hard pass like an Intel 11th gen CPU or God help you, a Xeon). I think that if Initios fragrances were selling for about $160 a bottle, I'd instead be writing glowing flatteries about how much I like Blessed Baraka as a composition, that truly does have an opening, a drydown, and a well composed smoking-sweet base that lingers for 12+ hours. Oud for Greatness was selling at $385 where I live, and sometimes it feels like they want to coast on Eyes Wide Shut pretenses, or maybe I'm just salty about how much Divine Attraction was a letdown.

Honestly while it does make sense to me how some people might call it "basic" or "uninteresting" or whatever fragrance snobbery, it kinda baffles me how much Mystic Experience doesn't seem to get any love or mentions, particularly if stuff like Atomic Rose is getting a mention (even funnier when a really divisive one like Oud for Happiness makes the final five cut, I've heard so many people trash that hard, as much as love it). I basically just don't get it fully, even knowing some people may call it too gourmand or "eh it's like cologne whatever I smelled before" because it's just so good to me. I like Side Effect, Mystic Experience, and Blessed Baraka the most, although Rehab was also nice it was just way too cinnamony and didn't have a lot else going on (but still a really good one tbh, it gets mentioned frequently for a reason) and although Blessed Baraka really wasn't that great to me at first it has really, really grown on me my God. It's just got a perfect balance of different interesting things going on and is somehow sweet, boozy, spicy, almost hinting at gourmand but then pulling back to this dark and smoky thing, it's great. Oud for Greatness is indeed fantastic, it's just that it smells like garbage on my skin and really I didn't like it so much on my clothes at first, certainly nowhere near triple digits USD liking. But Mystic Experience? So comfy. It's the epitome of chilling in your pajamas in winter watching stuff.

The one unreservedly nice thing I have to say about Initio with zero exceptions is their longevity is indeed amazing, and usually has some powerful projection too. Now, would I justify those prices for it eeeeee, you do you, but $330 for 90ml is a bit stretch goal at best (it's funnier that they can get cloned so well and easily for a tenth the cost, but then again the one biggest thing all the dupes fail to replicate is longevity). Spray your arm once, roll around in bed, get up, take a shower, it's still there as a skin scent if you didn't use a loofa. It needs to be scrubbed off to go away.

@@Redolessence thanks for reply, i got it from twistedlily. And is initio's sample packet not twistedlily decant... also it says 76% vol on the packet which is prior to being watered down to 80+% vol. Dont get me wrong longevity is good but projection seems close to skin or my nose having issue =)

It is a great house. I currently have Side Effect, Rehab, Musk Therapy, Psychedelic Love, and Oud for Greatness. They’re all great, but I prefer the first four that I mentioned compared to OFG. I’m eyeing that Blessed Baraka right now… I also want that Oud for Happiness because it is really unique, but I’m still stopping myself to buy it because it’s still very expensive here right now. Edit: A little update - Got my Oud for Happiness late last year and will get my Blessed Baraka next week. Next: Absolute Aphrodisiac

What's OfG smell like on your skin anyway? Because it smelled like such trash/ass that I couldn't for the life of me understand why anybody would want it let alone pay hundreds of dollars, and concluded it must be some kinda weird avant garde thing among professional sniffers (like maybe the kind of people that would enjoy burnt plastic mixed with sulfur and cherries soaked in manichevitz for the novelty of the odour) until I sprayed a bunch on my clothes and then understood why it was liked, but took me awhile to get over that skin scent. This was actually the first cologne I'd ever sampled that smelled so completely unapologetically different on my skin, not in a just "it smells differently on me/not as good" I mean it wasn't even recognizable as the same smell. I suspect Initio and possibly Amouage or other really high end brands just do something or have something in it that reacts especially poorly on my skin but I can't figure out what it is or why. Which creates the great irony that Oud for Greatness is literally worth considerably less to me than Lattafa's Oud for Glory, just because OfGlory actually smells great on my skin too, not just my clothes, so Oud for Greatness is worth about $20-30 a bottle for me, and Oud for Glory at least $50 a bottle (to me).

Hey bro I own blessed baraka and I love it , similar style to Carlisle PdM but unique enough to be different . I own rehab , OFG & side effect also . What’s musk therapy like in terms of smell & performance . I heard it’s on the weak side of things . I am considering getting it & also split between psychedelique love & atomic rose . Can you recommend either of those ??

I just blind brought side effect and I really don’t see what the hype is around it. I guess fragrances are subjective but there are many fragrances channels that rave about it. I don’t enjoy it nearly as much as I’d hoped. That’s the risk that you take bind buying. Oud for greatness on the other hand I understand, I really original, wearable oud

Yeah, I can see it certainly, but I also think it's winter (just don't hose yourself down and then sit in a crowded room with heaters on) and somewhat cooler summer nights. Like, not Texan nights in July, just, OH actually yeah! A nice cool night after a summer's rain, holy F I would love that, well for Blessed Baraka it's more perfect, but Side Effect while watching lightning and hearing distant thunder? Yeah do it.

So, having experienced both I can confirm that they're nearly identical, but it's not only that: DO NOT BLIND BUY! Actually you really shouldn't for anything even half as expensive as this anyway, but in Initio's case you really need to do it, because I think part of my overly negative criticism of them (despite me emphasizing that, yes, they are indeed really GOOD scents on their own merit) is having to do with of the first four Initios I tried, one just smelled like a fairly basic gourmand, one smelled like a burnt log and nothing more just burnt log start to finish, and the other--OfG--smelled *atrocious* on my skin, that I only later discovered after spraying on my clothes actually smells good. Like I seriously thought people were gaslighting me about OFG because of how terrible it smelled on my skin until spraying some on clothes. This then fed into the other end of negativity when I realized I actually did like how it smelled on my clothes enough to blind buy Lattafa's, because at that pricepoint what did I care if it smelled terrible anywhere but clothes. Lo and behold, Lattafa's version didn't react to my skin weirdly, and so now I like Oud for Glory on my skin too, but Oud for Greatness still smells terrible. I should emphasize, I was really looking forward to Divine Attraction too, based on the purported notes, and so that opening experience left me really skeptical about this house and their pricing as a whole. In spite of this, I sprung for Mystic Experience on sale half off and am not disappointed, I really like it and am happy with that purchase (and that didn't even make it to his top ten list mind you). Also all that being stated, there is a difference, but it's so subtle that unless the person smelling it is into fragrances and is going to be exposed to it repeatedly, no one else is going to notice on clothes. I can tell it's higher contrast, sharper, vaguely richer or deeper, smells more refined, but otherwise Oud for Greatness and Oud for Glory are nearly identical and it's really more to do with the blending and quality of the ingredients than the actual smell. The big difference is longevity, with all Initios seeming to last forever, or at least on skin you can literally smell it after a shower unless you scrub your skin deep, and can generally smell traces of it next morning. Glory just doesn't last like that, although admittedly it's a crown jewel of Lattafa's dupes and on clothes you'll still smell it two days later, but Initio's I feel like I can smell it a week later.

Thats a tough choice tbh but side effect is slightly more mass appealing. Grand soir is more formal and some might say mature. I would recommend getting samples of both before committing to a bottle.
