I’m a big fan of the blue Topo Designs backpack shown in the background top left. I have that bag and really love it. I dig its down to earth, old school hippyish vibe.

One point I would like to bring up, the Osprey Daylite Travel Pack doesn't work well if you are on the shorter side. The back/handle straps digs into the neck and it is rather uncomfortable unfortunately. Great list though!

I'm guessing they never did that because there's no reason to gender it. Lots of men want lightweight, comfortable carry. Lots of women want to carry their hefty gear, too.

@@niclas9990 it matters because the overall fit ans straps are different for a comfortable carry for women vs men. Backpacks made for men have a wider strap width apart on the shoulders, have a longer torso and don't account for boobs.

The whole list is awesome. I prefer the Daylite because of the form factor, the 210D which is soft and lightweight and the zipper that will expand capacity whenever needed. Versatile pack, my favourite hands down

My backpack was sitting on one side of my dresser and my suitcase on the other. Half way into COVID I moved both to the basement because the travel yearning was way to intense every time I looked at them. Now every time I go pass the basement stairs I hear my bag and suitcase yelling at me! I am going crazy! We all want to get going! My Daylite has now become my purse, my grocery bag, and my water bottle holder on my daily walks...it’s keeping me a little sane. The feeling of having a bag on my back is nice!

The Arcane Large is Osprey's best looking pack if you ask me. But maybe I just think that because it looks a bit like the CPL24, which I thought might make an appearance on this list :)

If I had to go on looks alone, I like the Osprey. It's the most interesting and stands out. The rest seem to blend together in a gradient.

Thanks for this! I'm struggling. Shouldn't torso length be the first thing to consider? I'm 5'6" with a 17" torso. I am gaga for Evergoods packs but the length (19"+) - I have the CPL24 and CHZ22 - hits in the wrong place of my back, forcing me to raise pack higher and that puts stress on shoulders. So far TB Synapse 19/Synik 20 (16" long) and GR1 21L/GR2 26L (both 18") fit best. I'd love your wisdom. I know getting a good fit is critical in hiking. Does the same apply for EDC?

Glad we could help! For EDC, it depends on how much walking you plan to do with your pack. If you have to walk 15 blocks to work each day, a well-fitting pack can make a difference. If you drive to work and wear your pack in the parking lot, it's less of an issue. Thanks for the comment! - Austin

How do you calculate your approval rating? If 200 people respond to one bag but 250 respond to the next bag, do you equalize the numbers out (I.e cap at 200) to ensure the percentages can be accurately compared across the board?

Does anybody know the term used for backpacks that have kind of a 360 degree zipper? Backpacks that open like a suitcase. I dont like having to DIG to the bottom for things. I just wanted to know the term to make my research process a bit easier

I completely understand focusing on the appearance of an everyday carry type bag, especially one you might take into a professional or social setting. But I find it weird and unhelpful how much emphasis some people seem to put on the visual aesthetics of a travel bag. For the most part, you’re going to wear a travel bag while in transit, and then it’s going to sit in your hotel room for you to live out of while you’re enjoying your destination. Accordingly, the layout, build quality, capacity, etc. ought to be the only serious considerations in buying a travel bag, because they’re what matters for its actual function. The looks are significant only inasmuch as you don’t want something too flashy that screams “naïve target” when you’re wearing it or “steal me” when it’s unattended amongst other bags. Do you really care how cool you look walking through the airport or as you enter a hotel lobby? And even if you do, do you honestly think anyone has ever looked cool wearing a filled 40-liter bag, regardless of its design language? Are there people out there wearing their travel bags on dates or to go clubbing?
