My favourite is Heaven by Bryan Adams. The melody, guitar riff, lyrics, piano mixed with guitar, how it's sung, I tear up a little and imagine myself slow dancing with the girl of my dreams. Not only is it my favourite love song, it's my favourite rock song. Also, this might be a stretch, but for the month of July (or even just on the week of Canada Day), can you talk about some Canadian songs? Canada is on July 1st, and you can team up with Brandon Tenold on this one. Canada's got some good talent. Bryan Adams is a good example (could start with him).

Aramanthe's Burn With Me, Rammstein's Ohne Dich, Hamerfall & Noora Louhimo's Second To One, Puddle Of Mudd's Blurry and Slipknot's Snuff are my all time favourite love songs. Nymthetamine Fix by Cradle Of Filth is a decent track. Special K, Bosco and I Do are fantastic unconventional love songs from Placebo. Arms Of The Ocean and Until Eternity are some of Blackbriars greatest works and are utterly incredible love songs. If you're suffering a breakup then the love song for you is Bye Bye Beautiful by Nightwish. "It's not the tree that forsakes the flower, but the flower forsakes the tree". For anti-love songs look to Sunrise Avenue with Fairytale Gone Bad and Forever Yours creating a fantastic two part story of a relationship gone wrong. Without a doubt the most passionate love song ever written is by Korpiklaani. The song Vodka really allows us to hear the adoration and passion Jonne Järvelä feels toward Vodka. He joyously sings about how Vodka makes him feel good and how Vodka is kind to all, how she is his love but is there for everyone and that's okay. Truly perfect love song.

These lists are so subjective, so in that spirit I'll throw out a list of personal favorite love songs, complete with a brief description just for fun. 10. Metallica - Nothing Else Matters: I have a love/hate relationship with this song. I love it as I think it's a surprising turn from a band better known for thrash at that point, and it's also a simple yet poignant song of how one person feels for another. I hate it because it was "our song" between the first girl I really loved and I; I married her after 8 years of dating, only to file for divorce within a year. Baggage sticks with me for a long time... 9. W.A.S.P. - Wild Child: I think this is one of the best expressions of physical attraction to a girl in another relationship and the longing that accompanies it. Not something I would do, as I'm small and can't fight, but it's a cool song nonetheless. 8. The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary: This one just sounds good when I hear it on the classic rock radio. Nothing too deep lyrically, just a story of a guy and how he loves the girl he's with, but it's a light-hearted rocker that has stood up for many years. 7. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - You Got Lucky: Sometimes love becomes so second nature that it's easy to forget how good one has things. That's the case here. The girl thinks of greener pastures, forgetting how unhappy she was before, while her guy reminds her, bluntly, that things can get much worse if she decides to leave. Love is so complicated, and this is a good lesson to remember, for actions, like words, can never be undone. 6. Nazarteh - Love Hurts: This cover of a classic Roy Orbison tune captures all of the emotion and heartbreak that can happen when one loves someone. All of the raw emotion, be it from the Sunglassed One or from Scotland's rockers, comes through with blistering clarity, and anyone who has ever been there can relate. 5. Motörhead - One More Fucking Time: Lemmy's penchant for songwriting produced this slow song, a tale of lost love and deep-seated regret that really hits close to home for me. It's an unconventional sort of song of love, but it's deep and insightful from a man who never married. Phil Campbell's guitar work is also very, very good here, as always. 4. Queen - You're My Best Friend: I couldn't agree more with the author's pick of this song. It's sweet, succinct and just brings a smile to my face even though my best girl is now my cat. She's just like my first wife in that I talk to her and she looks at me like I'm stupid, only she doesn't talk back. Works for me, as does this fantastic song. 3. Foo Fighters - Everlong: The author of the video got this pick bang-on IMO. It's a catchy love song about falling for someone. How can it be wrong? 2. Scorpions - No One Like You: It may be one of their bigger radio hits from their change of form after Uli John Roth departed, but I love it. The subject of a guy and his unrelenting longing for the woman he loves strikes a chord for anyone in love, especially during a long distance phase of their relationship. Plus, it just sounds so damn good! 1. Jimmy Buffett - Little Miss Magic: Mr. Margharitaville is on the light side of rock, and some might argue that he's not really rock at all, but I consider him as such. My favorite love song of his comes in the form of a song written about his young daughter and the way she views the world around her. The unconditional love he feels for his child is heartfelt and emotional; Buffett himself once noted that if a musician doesn't write a song for his daughter, there is something very wrong with him or her. I may be a bit biased as I have a daughter of my own, but this one gets me right where I feel it most. So, if you've actually read this, what do you think?
