Ironically, while that 4-railer was the most visually pleasing shot of the rack, it was probably the easiest of the 3 crazy shots Melling hit. Making a stop-shot 4-railer isn't "difficult" in of itself, but the vision Melling had ahead of time that he could navigate between the other balls on the table was more impressive to me. For me, the carom-kick was the most ridiculous one to execute.

On that bank Allison is still standing in shot position when the slow hit ball drops. Only the head turns long after the shot has left the stick. Her mechanics are about as rock solid as anyone I have ever seen. She basically looks like a stroking robot. If somebody wants to see proper stroke mechanics modeled they need look no further than her. That was a beautiful run out, fraught with some danger. There were several others, obviously. That finish of Melling's, for anyone that hasn't seen it, go look up the full uncut sequence. Look up 'best pool run out' and 'Melling' should get you there. His reactions during that set of shots are pretty funny to watch. When he walks away, he basically has a WTH look on, laughing and shaking his head, and it begins with that first shot, and he just thinks it's funnier on each successive shot. There is only one description for that finish, IMHO, and that is NUTS. Yeah, it's ranked properly. Actually several shots in this video were. The error budget on Varner's kick bank to the side has to be near zero.
@DrDaveBilliards

There is no denying Melling's #1 spot in this criteria. However... looking at his opening shot again, and having just tested it on my own table, he MAY have had a much simpler opening shot by either a) hitting center/right ball to go 2 rails to center table or b) use a high cueball to come behind the 6 or 7 for a shot in the opposite side pocket. I got the center ball option consistently, while the high cueball option required much more precision.

2:12 YOU ARE RIGHT DOCTOR DAVE THAT PUTTING A SHOT CLOCK ON POOL IS A PEST! This is not Chess Blitz or Chess Bullet not even Speed Pool! This is a normal Tournament of 10, 8 and 9 ball! The timer prevents the player to become his greatest!
@DrDaveBilliards
@DrDaveBilliards Жыл бұрын
I think a shot clock is a good thing to prevent matches from going too long, but the one in this tournament was too short (especially for 8-ball, which sometimes requires more thought).

@@DrDaveBilliards Remove it for eternity. The referee is the only one will time the player if the player is taking like 2 long minutes or more before doing the shot. This is an old rule. The referee could give the ball ball in hand to the opponent.

We all know how Petri felt. We've all been there sadly. But it was truly unfair on how the ref helped out Masato. Yeah you're doing your job and trying to keep the game fair but the player should know the rules in the first place

3:19 Can a ref do that? I thought the referee wasn't supposed to warn you if you were about to foul. And I am not talking about whether he should do it, I mean literally being allowed to

A ref should definitely not interfere like this, but refs are human and they make mistakes at times. Numerous examples can be found here: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/foul/examples/

@DrDaveBilliards

That is tough. In recent memory from 8-ball league, I had a tough short jump, a bank with a break out, and later another tough jump on the 8 for the win that I could barely reach with my toe on the floor, my leg on the table, my head in the table lights, using a highly-elevated dart stroke. Many people were watching that one and I got a nice round of applause when it went.

@@DrDaveBilliards very nice Dave . Im not up to scratch for consistent clearances yet, but one of my favorites was a rail first jump escape, then later I had banked my last 2 yellows (English pool) then a 4 rail snooker esacpe to pot the black. But it was a friendly game so the pressure wasnt a factor. My lack of jumping technique and no jump cue makes me learn the angles alot more. 👏

These were all great, but I was a little surprised that you didn't include a sequence on one you've done before: Corey Duel's great runout - kzbin.info/www/bejne/laHPpJdjZrmBhNk The draw he put on that 4-ball was miraculous, especially coming after the previous shots. That was a crazy break-and-run.

It seems like there are examples of Fedor doing that at least once every single tournament he’s in. His jumping ability is just insane. More than 6 inches between cue ball and blocker, and a 9 foot jump is a hanger to that kid

Petri lost because of ref interference. I was playing a tournament one time and my opponent was lining up on the 8 not realizing that he had a ball left. And some jackass in the crowd yelled "you have a ball left" which alerted him and I lost the game. Not sure if anything can be done in that situation.

3:28 If I am ahead of points and my opponent is aiming at the wrong ball or he thought I fouled so he thought the cue ball goes on his hand and the referee told him that your opponent did a legal shot moving that cue ball will give you a foul, I will not get disappointed to the referee because IT IS HIS DUTY TO TELL EACH PLAYER IF YOU MADE A BAD OR GOOD SHOT! I am ahead of points so I will continue playing until I make it first to our agreed score to claim the win!
