Live in Seattle-metro area for past ten years and my wife and I are leaving the state next summer for the following reasons: 1. No state income tax, but crippling sales tax and other hiddens taxes and fees. For example, our cars cost $800/year to register. 2. State but especially city and county level politics. Limousine Liberal policies of "good for thee not for me" coming down from Seattle/Bellevue wealthy class. 3. "Homelessness" or more accurately open-drug scenes because homelessness implies the issue is them being without a home and not all of the other issues that led up to it. 4. Traffic/Drivers 5. Weather - Western WA is nice July 5th - Early September. Outside of that it's drizzle, clouds and stormy Spring/Autumn weather. To be fair, it rarely snows but when it does, people here become worse drivers than they already are. 6. General Cost of Living - Housing, Groceries, Healthcare and in-state university education. The only reasonably priced service is utilities. The state taxes cell phones and anything else they can because there's no state income tax. Also the high minimum wages make basic services expensive. A dinner for two with no drinks, plus tax and tips can run about $60-75. 7. The People - polite but not friendly. Locals form small cliques are are univiting. All my close friends are from other states. "Seattle Freeze" is real. Bad dating scene for young singles. Lots of pretentiousness in Seattle/Bellevue.

Michigan actually has mild winters compared to most other midwest states due to the Great Lakes keeping us warm. Southeast Michigan averages only about 30-40" of snow per year. From May to mid October, Michigan has the best weather in the country. Beautiful springs and falls too. I don't understand people who would rather get cold rain for 3 months during winter and then suffer through a brutally hot summer.
@Jim-bs8ln

I’m a resident of Michigan and I have lived here for 56 years. Michigan has beautiful summers… Usually. Last year it rained an awful lot and this year it’s been extremely hot. That said, it is gray and cloudy in Michigan from October through March. There are times in the winter where You don’t see the sun for two weeks straight. It’s just cold and gray. There are limited places for people to work in this state, and the infrastructure blows. Michigan would definitely be in the bottom half of state for a place of residence.
@travissmith9488
@travissmith9488 2 жыл бұрын
@@Jim-bs8ln I disagree. According to data, Detroit is sunnier than Orlando, Florida in October. Over 50% of the time in October, it’s sunny in Detroit. I agree November through March is not as sunny, but that’s true for 70% of the country. And Michigan, contrary to your belief, actually has one of the strongest job markets right now. We also enjoy below average cost of living. Traverse City was recently ranked the #1 place in the country for retirees. As far as infrastructure, our roads have greatly improved. I just traveled 3 hours up north and most of the road was brand new - and I hit zero construction. We have zero toll roads, one of the best airports in the country, tons of ways to travel by train, and more bike trails than any other state.

Coming from central Texas as a native. Me and my wife are "millennials" and 3 years ago it was attainable to find a nice home for a decent price how ever you chose to live. Be it in a condo or a ranch. Today it's impossible to be able to find anything decent that's not a "fixer upper". The influx of people coming to the state from all over the country has effected the housing market, and also every other market,so much that it's becoming a nightmare to continue living here, forcing many people out of their native areas. We live in 1 of the top 5 most expensive zip codes in the Austin area, and some of the "smaller" towns have way higher property tax rates than we even have.

Texas native here too. Born in the metroplex which has been adding about 1 million people a decade for 5 decades now. It has pushed up home prices which has increased property taxes due and many local are being pushed out by increasing costs. Your income may not have changed much and you could be living in the same modest house, but the tax valuation on the property has doubled so your property taxes have at least doubled and your income isn't keeping up.

There's often a count of the number of days of triple digit weather one has had. Then again you can you can see where all the movies have been made and you can be in them there's quite a cinnamon industry in the salt lake area. I know because I was in several movies there's a lot of fun though it doesn't pay very much. Salt lake City has an amazing public library. There are lots of summer activities things like fairs and art shows and all kinds of stuff that are really a lot of fun. So it's a really nice place to live.

I did that for about a year and then moved to NW Ohio and after a few years I moved to Phoenix, AZ back in the mid 80s. I stayed there about 3 years and from there I moved to Kansas City, MO. I bought a house there for $61,000 and still own this property which has risen to $285,000 at the present time. I left KC and helped a friend move out to Portland, OR in the mid 90s. I stayed for about 3 years but left because it is hard to play outside sports in all the rain. I left Portland in 1997 and reunited with my college sweetheart who happened to live in SE MI. As a trucker I see pros and cons from all the contiguous states of the US. I have traveled across many of the Canadian provinces and my favorites are Alberta and British Columbia. My favorite state in the US to travel through is Montana. If I could start my life over (66 years at present) I would have a nice log cabin in the wooded parts of Butte or in a more remote area with scenic beauty.

I live in Bellingham, Washington!!! It’s a cool town, but definitely has a homeless problem like Seattle right now. The covid restrictions have locked most dining to outside still with the exception of some vax only, but as an Uber eats driver and construction worker who’s all over town, I never see anyone in the restaurants, still. Lots of opportunities here as everywhere seems to be hiring and many people are moving here. The housing market is crazy and houses are snatched up quickly, and new construction is primarily multi unit now, with a few single family housing developments going in. Any way, love your channel!

Great to see u weren’t afraid to list places like Michigan, Wisconsin and Nebraska. With Michigan and Wisconsin u have a beautiful woodsy environment and these states let u take advantage of that. U just have to be someone who doesn’t mind brutal winters and learn to enjoy winter activities. If you’re more ho hum on your activities and desire shorter, less brutal winters, Nebraska and Kansas are great! Glad u mentioned Utah, a beautiful state, especially St George. A state people often forget about for some reason? The Carolinas are a lot like Wisconsin and Michigan but warmer. Vermont and NH are somewhere in between. Washington is beautiful but if you’re talking Seattle or it’s burbs it’s become super expensive and like Oregon the homeless situation is starting to present some problems. My cousin is one of the better Fertility specialists in the country and as a great income. I questioned why he left California to start a practice in Cleveland? His response: In California I would have been “average” and compelled to keep up with the joneses. In Cleveland I live like a king. Instead of spending money to keep up with the Joneses I can spend it traveling. Which to me made sense.

Omaha has a spectacular zoo/aquarium. It is just as easy to find an affordable single family home there as an apartment of the same price or close. Anybody who enjoys some wildlife without dangerous animals would like it there. There are countless pockets of wooded areas, and community parks. When I lived there, we had squirrels, owls, deer, turkeys come into my backyard. Rabbits, raccoons, and numerous other critters made occasional visits too. The availability of homes with a yard and private drive contributes to the lesser night life. There are things to do, but backyard bbqs are so popular, that is what affects night attraction businesses. Most businesses target daytime activities. My disappointment was the schools of my neighborhood. Maybe some are better, but when I made the decision to move, I went someplace I felt more comfortable about the schools. Omaha has a lot of cool history.

TN is great but with the amount of people moving here in their Subarus with BLM stickers and out of state license plates, I fear that may not be the case for much longer. Prices are shooting up bc people from the North and West are moving here in droves, and bringing their politics with them. You'll find some southern charm left in the rural areas but the cities are starting to lose any they've had remaining, transplants that lack self awareness have a way of doing that to places and it's sad to see. The ranking was really accurate from top to bottom. Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan as well NH, Idaho and Washington are also nice. However Michigan is more mild compared to Minnesota and Wisconsin which are far colder. Many mistakes Michigan because the north part near Canada is cold, primarily due to the mountains. They claim the great lake protect Michigan from the extreme cold. Many don't know Chicago Illinois is far worse weather wise than lower Michigan. Also Michigan summers are real long with sun going down 10 or 11PM depending where you are located. Also MI has the most beaches/ shorelines on the mainland. For anyone considering NH (I’m from there) it’s important to note that there differences between each section of the state. A lot of praise the state gets is usually referred to the more northern regions, as the towns are lot less big, and people often refer to those areas as the “dream retirement” home for people that want to live in a forestry / hilly area. As for other sections, like Southern NH, in reality it’s just northern Massachusetts. The metro area all the way Boston has spread in a lot of NH, and lot of people from mass have moved up into NH, which also means there politics are brought up there. Still however southern NH is a great place to live compared to rest of county, it’s just not really the NH people think of when they watch these videos.

Interesting that you put Washington in first while California and Oregon have essentially the same socio-political problems like homelessness and crime surges. Real estate prices there would give most potential relocators sticker shock unless they already had a well-paying job lined up or were coming from somewhere like coastal California. Even though WA doesn't have state income tax, property taxes escalate with the high property values and the liberal use of bond and levy measures, Seattle-area sales taxes are very high (over 10% across most of the Seattle area), car registration fees now approach Virginia-style personal property tax levels, and prices in general (especially gasoline) are in the upper echelon.

FMLA tax of approximately $15 every two weeks, and if you make more than $70,000 a year, you will be paying $438/month for state mandated long term care tax, with a max benefit of $36,000 and it is not transportable to any other state. You can opt out if you have an approved LTC plan, but when you are 65 to get a plan is quite expensive. This is one of the reasons I am retiring and am planning on leaving Washington as soon as feasible. Keep up the video’s I do enjoy them.

You want to complain about something, complain about our country's lack of single-payer health care. And I live in Tacoma, too, and love my city. Vagrancy is fact because our state doesn't allow for rent-controlled housing, and the city has left vast swabs of downtown vacant when they could have built thousands of low-income housing units to address the issue of people living homeless. Good luck with your move. I'm sure Florida or Texas will love you.

I left Michigan 40 years ago to escape the snow. But I have recently watched some hiking videos of the Upper Peninsula and the northern parts of the state and I actually felt a sentimental heart string being tugged. It really is wild and beautiful up there. In the back of my mind, I am thinking of going back.

Come to Wisconsin. Besides the things mentioned in the video, we have a great art scene, fun sports teams at all levels to watch (Pee Wee to professional), lots of sports to participate in all year round, four distinct seasons, beautiful scenery, lots and lots of lakes and rivers if you like water sports, and we are safe from all natural disasters except a rare tornado. Yes, we can get an ice storm or blizzard but our infrastructure and public works departments can handle it, usually all is clear within a day and rarely does anyone lose power. We are also a purple state so you can find like minded people no matter your politics.

Wisconsin. I've lived here most of my adult life. I live in a very rural area. My town is the only town with stop lights. The nearest big city is Madison. It's an hour away. I love rural America.

For me, the states I might consider living in 2022 would be: - Utah - Wisconsin - Idaho - North Carolina I'd consider Utah. Good schools, good jobs, friendly people, especially those whom are religious; mountainous, cheap and easy to go about day-to-day life.

You hit two of my 3 that I would consider: North Carolina and Wisconsin. My 3rd is Washington. But, I currently live in Tennessee, which is essentially west North Carolina when you consider our history. Like Washington, we don't have a state income tax. I just severely dislike the history and politics here.

Agreed. Idk if I’d go to Wisconsin but I think Idaho, North Carolina (my home), and Utah are nice. Only thing is with Utah is the Mormons. I was ok with that at first but I realized that they USED to be extremely racist

I moved from FL to NC, and so far so good! Being in-land with fantastic schools drew me to Raleigh specifically, and I wanted a blue area in a state with a mixed partisan record. I wanted to escape the incessant FL heat without having to live the Snow Shovel Life, and this area fit the bill on that too. Last year, they got no snowfall at all, and the average per year is about 6 inches.

Hey! I live in north FL and hoping to move to North Carolina! I'm leaning towards the Raleigh area for good schools and jobs but I also like Asheville for the mountains and artsy town vibe.

@@autumnnorberg7534 I'm not outdoorsy enough to appreciate Asheville's mountain benefits, but the Raleigh area has tons of greenspace, trails, etc. One point of concern that surprised me about Raleigh is the number of panhandlers/homeless. It's probably comparable to Miami and other major metros. But I had never before seen 3 of 4 corners of an intersection being claimed by people with cardboard signs.
