As a kid living in Taiwan(I’m 63 now) I remember these old men on bikes with colored clay and sticks….. they would make you the most amazing, intricate, characters or animals from the colored clay and mount them on a stick. It took them mere minutes to create whatever you wanted… they were amazing….

What a delicious way to send off 2021! I was born in Taiwan and remembered the simple street foods from my youth, but don’t recall to have seen most of these! While I am not a fan of sugar, carb, and fried foods, I do appreciate to see today’s Taiwan and her rich and creative culinary legacy. Specifically, the showing of the food making process. When I lived in Taiwan, back in the late 60’s, early 70’s…..there were no food trucks…. Just old men riding around on old bicycles with a small hot metal box on the back with food in it they were selling. God knows what we were eating 😂. But it was good….. 😂

Seldom see seller do cut it narrow/ thinner. Most seller do cut it in wider size n it's inconvenient to eat if u can't finish it coz it's very sweet to me... Can anyone do a quick explanation of what they’re doing in some of these? The rice in the centrifuge are they adding anything other than water and is this to make rice starch or something else? Looks neat. Just can’t tell exactly what they’re doing.

美味しそうですね！ひょうたん？台湾だとヘチマは普通に料理に使うそうですが。 日本でひょうたんを食す場合は干瓢ですね。 台湾で干瓢を食べるという話は聞いた覚えがありませんが、 食べないという話も聞いた覚えは無いので、ひょうたんなんでしょうかね。 日本で屋台を出すのは何だかよく解らない所に、よく解らないスジを通したり、 何だかよく解らないお金を納めたりイロイロとメンドクサイ訳ですが、 台湾でも屋台を出すのは結構大変（主に金銭面）だそうですよ。 ちゃんとお金を払って屋台を出して居るのは日本と変わらないし全然安くないです。 商品の単価があんなに安くて、どうしてやっていけるんだろう。 日本でも昔は屋台から始めて店を持って、なんて夢がありましたけど、 今そんなことを言ってたら寝言扱いですね。 今の台湾は日本の経済成長期どころではない勢いで変わりつつあるようですから、 屋台とか夜市とかも今のうちかもしれませんね。
