Those Kodak (and Fujifilm) disposable cameras were EVERYTHING!😭 I remember that clicking sound when you wound the camera before you took a picture-- and that feeling of sadness when the clicker kept on rolling and rolling because you were all out of film. I remember in the mid-90s when I went to summer camp for 2 weeks and I used up two cameras taking pictures. I remember begging my mother for money to take my cameras to Walgreens to get the film developed. I remember that feeling of joy opening the photo envelope after you got your pictures developed...only to realize that you have more than a few pictures with a pinkish blur taking up 50-75% of the pictures and blocking the subjects of said pictures.... a blur which happens to be your finger because your finger was blocking the built in flash when you took the pictures. 🤦‍♀️😂

Uh, Kodak is still functioning guys. Yes, they no longer make cameras (technically, they still sell disposable/One-time-use cameras), however they're producing film for both general photography and cinematography. Because of their bankruptcy filings in 2011 (I think), they were split into two different companies: Kodak Alaris - which was the consumer and professional film market along with their photo chemical lineup and Eastman Kodak - which handled the cinema films for both big and small budget films. True, they no longer operate as they once did so, indeed the Kodak of the past is no more. However its still here, still breathing, and very much alive.

I live in Rochester where Kodak was born. When I was a kid in the 90’s all my friends parents worked there many lived in really nice houses they had money and then Kodak started doing huge lay off after lay off so many people lost out on their pensions, couldn’t afford the life they were living. This one girl I was friends with in like 2005 her parents bought this big 250k house they worked at Kodak and said their job was secure I said man it’s Kodak though and a year later they were laid off and lost everything.

I work for United and one of my coworkers use to work for PanAm. She was devastated to hear that PanAm filed for bankruptcy, She did switch to a different company which still allows her to wear some of her PanAm uniform because it bring the aviation history to life.

Compaq getting bought out by HP was like Harvard being bought out by the University of Phoenix - the best in the business being bought out by hack competition that still doesn't measure up. The real pity of Pan-Am going belly-up was that they had plans to advance into space travel before Richard Branson had sold his first record album (Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield, for the trivia obsessed.) In a certain sense, I suppose they are an object lesson of inflexibility of a business model.

I think this was a pretty good list, though I might have chosen something different for the number one spot, because so many major airlines have gone out of business, mojo should probably make a specific video for them. Also, the narrator said in the beginning that the brands on this list were all associated with specific products and I'm not sure if Pan Am is associated with an actual product. One might say that they're associated with airplanes, but I think that credit goes more to manufacturing companies like Boeing, Lockheed-Martin, etc., rather than to airlines.

HP used the Compaq marque in their enterprise fleet computers for a while. Kodak is more of a patent book than a company now and they could have specialized in DSLRs or even smartphone lenses. Pan Am could have been the flag carrier airline for the US.

The story about Tab was wrong on this video. I clearly remember the Saturday morning I was at the store to buy Tab. Two other people were also there looking for Tab. There weren't any - only Diet Coke. I eventually had to switch to Diet Coke, which I initially hated, because if I wanted a sugarless drink I had no choice. They weren't selling Tab anymore. People didn't switch to Diet Coke because they liked it better. They switched because Coca Cola gave you no other choice.

I own my late father's Kodak 1960s box camera, which I last used in the late 1979, after he gave it to me. You forgot that what really finished off Pan Am, was the damage to their reputation by first the helicopter accident on their headquarters office roof and the security failures that lead to terrorists destroying one of their planes over Lockerbie in Scotland.
@randomami8176
@randomami8176 3 жыл бұрын
I thought the same. The Lockerbie Terrorist attack was truly the beginning of the end for Pan Am. If I’m not mistaken it was Pan Am the first company/brand that started the air miles rewards concept, that was quickly adopted by American Airlines…fast forward today, even the smallest store has a “reward” program.

Actually, Circuit City was a name for an electronics store. If you heard what the announcer said at the beginning of this video. Stores like Blockbuster and Radio Shack deserved their own list. But there are other products that've been discontinued over the years like Halo Shampoo, Lustre Creme Shampoo, Palmolive Rapid-Shave, and Glo-Coat Floor Wax.

In addition to Pam Am, Eastern Airlines went out of business. Eastern even hired former astronaut Frank Borman to help prevent bankruptcy and he did keep it operating into the late 1980s or early 1990s. Its intellectual properties, trademark, etc. were bought by another company in 2015 but the new Eastern Airlines is not the old Eastern Airlines.
