My dad still has his old Delta corded tools bench tools from 30 years ago and they still work to this day: bench grinder, table saw, and miter saw. We live in a small Pacific island where it is almost always hot and humid, aside from a few exposed screw heads and springs, they are absolutely rust free and run as when they first were installed.

I am a Milwaukee corded guy from way back. A few years ago the local tool repair place closed. They were a Milwaukee, Panasonic, and Greenlee repair center. I got a corded Milwaukee Magnum drill for $10, and a 15.6 volt Panasonic drill with a battery and charger for $30. The Milwaukee dates to the early 1980s, works perfect. The Panasonic is outstanding, they made great drills. But, the battery is long obsolete.

I have gotten most of my corded tools at estate sales or auctions for very little money. Just picked up a ryobi 10 inch table saw with two carbide bit blades for free a few weeks ago , works great 😊 My advice is to much like yours for most guys who are looking for a tool you’re not going to use that often get a good corded one cheap. I have tools from my father that still work fine 50 years old or more 😊

My two buy it for life tools are both Makita: a 1/2" plunge router and a 4" angle grinder. I've had them for well over 25 years and they are going strong. My more recent purchases have been in the Ryobi line and they are doing well. My best pawn shop purchase was an air nailer which I just replaced with a HF 21 degree framing nailer. For gas powered equipment, it's all HONDA.

Normally agreed on most of your picks…but on the SDS drill….got to give it to the Hilti as the G.O.A.T. My company has drilled thousands of holes in concrete installing encapsulation vapor barriers in crawlspaces over a decade with the same Hilti. It’s an absolutely bulletproof piece of equipment that’s been dragged thru everything imaginable and it’s unkillable.

For a Makita fanboy, I am surprised you passed over the Makita Hypoid saw. It costs just a little more than the mid-tier Makita sidewinder you picked. Makita also offers a magnesium hypoid at about the same price point as the mag Skil.

I truly lament the demise of Porter-Cable. I own three right now that will be my 'cold dead fingers' tools. Model 843, a left-side mirror image of the classic 347 with the brake included. Bought it new around '95, still run it with my homemade track saw set. Model 555 biscuit cutter. First American biscuit cutter. Inherited it from my bro, who bought it new within months of issue. I just last month replaced the blade for the first time. Shoulda done it decades ago. Last but not least, my 42 year old Model 690 router. Been in the shop three times for brushes and bearings, and would have sent it two years ago...but that's when I found out that P-C took their ball and went away, ad Jeff so sussinctly put it. It sat in a router table for three years at a frame shop and got three-six hours a day of run time. I made my own router plate from 1/4" T6061 stock, bought the speed reducer and all that. I still run it on occasion these days, but it is really tired and happy to sit in that groovy stamped steel carrying case. Surprised you didn't include the DW 618 kit in with the big routers. While I own two 1618's (Bosch) I got respect for that yellow and black one. Nearly bought the Stanley version (precursor to 618) when I bought the 690. My routers get a ton of use both in my shop and on the road. I wanted a known quantity at the $200 price point. Amazon had a sale on Bosch...not DeWalt, so I got blue ones. Only downside is the proprietary guide bushings... can't use my industry standard P-C set.

2015 I picked up a 12v Dewalt drill and it’s B&D brother for $5. Both in cases with batteries and charger. I’ve had to buy replacement batteries, but I still use the Dewalt in my hobby shop to this day. Yes, I have better brushless, lithium drills, but those are for work. I have 2 dremmel 200s. Because the first one the collet lock broke. It has a cutoff wheel attached permanently.

I have a selection of hand tools and some power tools that my late father had for years throughout my childhood. When he passed I took his tools and use many of them today. He had a good selection of the original USA Craftsman tools. The drills and such are all corded and still work but I use my new cordless ones for ease of use. I'm only a DIY level guy so I don't need anything over the top. I have a wide selection of Dewalt tools that I think will last me well past the warranties. Of course I'm buying plenty of new tools over time to fill out the gaps and I'll eventually expand into a new toolbox. I did take a 12" Skil miter saw that my father had. Purchased in 2014 for 59 USD! Runs like a champ!

For the most part, you’ve managed to list all the corded tools I used to have, or have rusting away in the back of the barn. Why the past tense? Simply because I’ve gone 100% cordless. The biggest obstacle to any job, and especially a quick task, is the chore of running a power cord. If you’re in the trades, power might not even be there. Were I to have to “start over,” my “first ten” tools would be: - Bosch 12V 1/4” hex impact; - Bosch 12V “hacks all;” - Bosch 12V 3/8” hammer drill; - Milwaukee 18V portable light (#2146-20); - Makita 18V 4-1/2” angle grinder; - Makita 18V top-handle saber saw; - Makita 18V stick vacuum; - Makita 18Vx2 Track saw; - Makita 18Vx2 10” sliding compound saw; and, - Makita 18Vx2 SDS+ roto-hammer; Note that my tool type selection varies somewhat from yours. The Dremel, trim router, and palm sander (in cordless form) would make my “second ten” list. I am not loyal to any battery platform, though I will avoid tools with proprietary batteries where possible. I just happen to like a lot of Makita tools. Makita isn’t all that common near me. I do own tools of many makes (even DeWalt).

Some of my choices.... These have all the options I wanted; Corded, lock on, VSR, keyed chucks, etc.. Not really budget options unless they last and keep working well. DeWalt Hand Drill DW245 triple gear reduction. For drilling metal and mixing paints. Makita Hand Drill DP4010 two gears. Has everything. Best hand drill I found. Only missing a clutch. Makita Angle Grinder GA5042C. Has everything. 5" version. Same speed as 4.5" version, but takes both sizes. 6" version is a bit slower. Variable speed is very useful. Makita Die Grinder GD0800C Has everything. Makita 6952 Impact Driver. No longer made...to sell batteries??? Still some new ones out there. Very nice too, so far. Way too expensive, and I got a good deal.

Oh..."SDS-plus® Bulldog™ Xtreme 1 In. Rotary Hammer" 11255VSR I haven't broken in mine yet. I have a large block of concrete I need in smaller pieces to move. If memory serves, mine was made in Mexico. I didn't realize at the time I bought mine, that the slightly more expensive choice is made in Germany, and is rated for slightly larger holes. Slight increase in power.

Great Idea - your "buy it for life" list! I can't complain much about your selections.. though I will say I would take the Dewalt random orbital sander over your Makita.. even with the extra vibration.. the thing simply is a workhorse.. and one of the hardest working tools in my shop.. a game changer! The other game changer for me was the angle grinder.. they are cheap enough that no shop should have to be without one! Ditto the Dremel.. Though I only gave up $7.99 (Brand new price - for real!!) 43 years ago. I also second your suggestion to look at used.. big time!! Even though used prices have gone up a lot.. you can still get a lot of otherwise unaffordable power tools on a tight budget - IF you're patient and shop around online, garage sales, etc. The Bosch 1617 is simply the best.. and any Skil tools.. even the cheapest.. really hold up and perform well - this coming from a guy who owns tools no man should be allowed the privilege of having.. thanks for the great video!

I'm pretty sure his recommendations are for non-professionals. The Xtract (no E) may be awesome, but it's $500. Makes sense for a pro shop, but not the average home owner. Unless one has money to burn, it makes no sense to pay more for a sander than a for descent table saw. There was nothing from Hilti or Festool on this list either. Same principal apples.

You hit the nail on the head with this. I had actually said in the video that I was not including super high end stuff like the 3m and Mirka but I guess it got lost in editing.

Actually for rotary tools the Milwaukee M12 is better than the Dremel. I've used rotary tools for over 3 decades and the Dremel isn't at the same quality level they used to be. The Milwaukee is far superior.

Buying for life and a bunch of cords doesn't really mesh for me. I should think that if I live more than 1o years all the corded tools are going away.

No thanks on the Makita, they are under powered and over priced.

I love how you are completely unafraid to advocate for CORDED tools. Try making a 20 inch rip cut with a battery powered circular saw. NOPE.

I still have all my pro quality corded tools, including a few of the examples shown here. Somewhere. As far as estate sale finds, i have a heavy duty 1/2” Dewalt drill. Its a low rpm, non varible speed beast. I use it to mix mud or thinset
