vanna's hair was gorgeous on price is right. then she became a bleach blonde, got a perm, and built a nest on top of her head
@stickman17426 жыл бұрын
That was mostly the decision of the game show's producers and not Vannas. They would dress her the way they wanted. The 80s looks on tv were pretty bad. Women had much more natural beauty on their own. The tv people probably thought Vanna naturally looked too sexy so they changed her as network tv was trying to be ultra-conservative in the 80s. It wasn't a pleasant time. Nicer looks on women didn't really return until the late 90s.

Billy Crystal? Billy Crystal appeared as a celebrity on all those shows. He does not belong on this list. "Soap" brought him his initial fame. He was terrific in it. If he hadn't been so popular he wouldn't have been on so many shows.
@KnickKnack075 жыл бұрын
MaeNoEast...Well, that's not necessarily true. It isn't as if game shows, even back then, were filed with A-list celebrities. They were up and coming celebrities (like Crystal), has beens, and fringe celebrities. Just like today's game show celebrities. Back then, you also had another category of Soap Opera actors. But that sort of fits in with fringe celebrities. Billy Crystal was on those shows because he WASN'T that popular after Soap went off the air, and he wanted to do anything both for a paycheck and to stay visible. (He had to take a tiny role as a mime in This is Spinal Tap. So it isn't as if he was in huge demand between Soap and Saturday Night Live.) That being said...he still WAS the celebrity player and not a contestant, so including him in this video is just plain stupid.

Like most game show "celebrities" of that time, Billy Crystal was a "C" list celebrity who would have bit TV parts here or there, but in order to make a living, got paid to be on game shows and be called a celebrity. It was because of this exposure, he got bigger and bigger parts, SNL, movie roles, and became an "A" list celebrity.
@stickman17426 жыл бұрын
@@chag2013 It'd be a stretch to say game show exposure had anything to do with him getting to 'A' list. He was pretty well known from Soap and then being on SNL made him a household name. Erick Horton; Chris H; Stick Man; agree with You living at the time also. Billy was already a known stand-up comedian before Soap, but he became more known in more households through his role on that series. Appearing on games shows used to be a way for young male and female actors to showcase themselves on TV. Most of the them featured in this post were active in showbiz and some were the children of established stars or related to them. They were encouraged by their agents to do so and usually gave a false job description with the full knowledge of the shows' makers. It gave the young actors valuable experience before an audience and being in a TV studio, provided the producers with good looking and presentable contestants and provided their agent swith something to show any future employers.

IDK if that's really the case in America, but I did find it suspect that they described Simon Cowell as they did because he was already an A&R man working for a record company.
