The main reason why we left Pa and went south is because of racism. Now,Many things are against the law as far as discrimination in housing and employment. But,What is happening in some of these cities are those two things. It’s done but it’s done under the radar. I’m telling you because it’s happened to me and others that I know that have left for the south. When you’re AA and you call about housing. Your voice tone gives your ethnicity away. And you will be told that the housing or employment that you’re seeking is no longer available. Another thing that’s done are these questionnaires that you are asked to fill out before you can schedule a tour of a particular dwelling. Depending on how you answer those questions determines if you get a tour scheduled or a call back. There are underlying questions that signal if you’re a person of color or Caucasian. These things are done legally so you can’t really prove that it’s discrimination but it is and that’s how they get away with this discrimination in predominantly Caucasian cities against minorities. When we move south the opportunities are more in abundance because many times a leasing agent is a poc and they’ll give you the opportunity to schedule a tour and may even help you if there are financial concerns. It’s a more welcoming process for employment and housing. Many AA are fleeing back to the south because it’s more welcoming and you are in some cases the majority. And it may have nothing to do with the areas being better or lack of crime. It comes down to acceptance and where you feel comfortable living it’s really that simple. This may sound like reverse racism but it isn’t. There isn’t a push to not rent to Caucasians in the south but in many northern cities it’s an intentional exclusion of giving AA a shot at opportunity to advance. And as per this video it’s touched on vaguely. They mention crime,education and some of those things aren’t at the top of many AA list when we consider relocating. Many of us feel like you can avoid crime if you want to. We don’t see ourselves as crime victims waiting to be chosen to be victimized. The honest in your face reason still remains unsaid. It’s still a conversation that many whites will just not consider or even engage. RACISM is why many AA relocate to the south. And that’s another conversation that will be found hard to understand. The short answer is that the south has dealt with many of the racial situations that were prevalent back in the day. The north never has because it is believed that it isn’t and wasn’t a problem up north. That’s NOT TRUE! Lol

@@Moonewitch Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania can be challenging for AA. It’s documented and look up a segment of the Ricky Smiley show where cousin Jeff as he’s called from BET calls it one of the worst places for AA.

This shouldn’t be about race, people are migrating south for a variety of reasons. It’s so bad corporations are doing the same. Let’s not forget.. There’s a mass decoupling of living and working in the same city. This is what is driving people out of northern cities, in addition to higher taxes, cost of living, crime, education etc. It is not just black people, so let’s not make it that. I took a remote position in 2022 and moved from Charlotte to Austin to Miami. None of the factors above were the reason, it’s just I moved where I wanted to move without influence of a job/income/local job market. If it weren’t for the coronavirus, I doubt I would have this opportunity. I’m just not appreciating the narrative that black people are poor so they’re moving to Houston, Miami, Orlando, Dallas, like these places don’t have high rent, low unemployment pay, lack of rent control, etc. These places will have you fucked up too. It’s either pay as you go down south or pay in advance up north.

No,In the 70’s,80’s and 90’s many AA I know were purposely leaving northern states to relocate to the south because of racism,opportunities and inclusion. You can only speak for you and people you know. This thing is called reverse migration. It is a real thing I’ve seen it been apart of it and have had this discussion. Of course everyone relocates but there has been a large migration of AA from northern cities to the south. It’s a real thing.

Definitely will. I'm from Atlanta and moved away. Too many transplants from other cities
