I absolutely agree with you, Royal Oud is amazingly classy. So expensive though. Black Pepper by Comme des Garcons is also one my picks. Oud Wood when first released was a rock star, now as you state, it's airy and I have to apply twice the amount!

The eucalyptus in Royal Mayfair comes off as camphorous mothballs. Period. I like: Royal Oud, Houbigant Fougere Royale 2010, Terre d'Hermes, Oud Wood.

At my "stage of life" classy scents come in handy. I reach for them a lot, but I've always been drawn to them. I love your list. Royal Oud has been calling my name for months. You may have convinced me to pull the trigger. I think I'm one of the two people who bought Penhaligon's Endymion Concentre. It is a classy just shaved scent and I like it. And those bottles! Even with their crappy caps they definitely make a statement in my gallery wall. Now I want to try yours! The only classy fragrance I'd suggest that isn't on your list is a vintage, and it's Guerlain's Habit Rouge. For me, it screams "a very good life."

Great video Sebastian as always, loved the list, btw I ve had the same problem with my Penhaligons - Elixir bottle, not the cap is loose, but the actual collar is stucked in the cap, you can remove the collar easily from the cap, get it back tightly to the sprayer and it will work like it should :)

Thats the reason I found the problem as well, it was so annoying and I didn t understanded why they would make a cap like it can fall off anytime, and it was my first penhaligons so I looked up some pictures and it doesn t seemed right, so I looked in the cap and found the problem, hopefully it will work for you as well :)

i stumbled on this one Sebastian after following you for years ..lol... Yep, Royal Oud to me, is a masterpiece. It's actually my signature scent. I get that sandalwood/cedar from it. To this day, it's the ONLY fragrance that I will always have a back up bottle for. Again, a masterpiece. Great list.

Great review. I will have to give Royal Oud a try. The Creeds I have tried gave allergic reactions, and I wonder if they are as pure as they are marketed to be? I really wanted to love Aventus but it gave me wicked headaches. I can speak to Houbigant's Fougere Royale: when I first tried it I was turned off by it, but came back to it 6-months later and it has now become my go to frag in the Extrait form. It's complexity is unrivaled by anything I've tried, and has a mysterious and dazzling Chimera-like quality that reveals intricate layers I will never tire of.

Instant like EVERY time...since Man Loves Cologne and "bashing fragrances/brands i don't like" more cocky version of you haha. I don't like TdH - it goes very bad on my skin-like a huge pile of rotten fruits.Love Royal Mayfair , but i don't think it's really mascuiline and i get VERY bad projection and sillage from it-same as Royal Oud.I get good longevity from Oud Wood ~6-7hr , but i have the older brown bottle.If you like Straight to Heaven try the new extreme version-you'll love it with the amped up rum note, and also Ursa by Tiziana Terenzi. Ambre Eccentrico , Intoxicated , Vert des Bois , Vert d'Encens , Established Cognac 66 by Krigler , Immortal Beloved by Ys-Uzac , Oajan , Noble Leather by YSL,Ursa and Amber Desire by CH will be my top 10. Nice to see this kind of list (vs most popular or sexy, etc). Do you have an most "elegant" fragrances list for men 40 +? I'm not a huge fan of Creed, but I would add one to this list - Bois du Portugal and perhaps more predictably, Amouage Jubilation XXV. Not tried yet, but I've heard Nasomatto Pardon is the ticket. And, Chanel - Pour Monsieur and Allure Blanche Edition particularly are excellent, but perhaps less masculine than most on your list. Thanks for posting! Enjoyed this very much!

You have a great list of classy, masculine scents. I need to get my nose on just about all of the fragrances you mentioned. I do own one bottle and that's Terre D'Hermes Pure Perfume. I would mix it up just a tad bit for my list. I recently went on a niche sampling spree at a Boutique in Los Angeles. Maison Francis Kurkdjian-Baccarat Rouge 540 is so amazing and it lasts forever on skin. Parfums de Marly-Pegasus and Godolphin are must haves for class and sophistication. By Kilian-Back to Black is another good choice. Sebastian, did you really say that Creed-Royal Oud is better than the mighty Aventus? 😱

I could see Baccarat Rouge 540 but to me I don't understand that fragrance and it doesn't work for me but I love the brand. It's one of my least liked fragrances from the brand but I can see the classiness in it. The others I would have to check but not quite sure about B2B! :)

I had to buy the bottle but the price did punch my wallet pretty good haha. I love Maison Francis Kurkdjian fragrances. I'm quite sure you would like a lot of scents from the Parfums de Marly lineup.
