Top 10 Coasters that Shot DOWN My Rankings in 2023

I travelled all over the country & into Scandinavia this year to ride coasters, and these are the 11 that let me down this year, lowering my opinion of them for one reason or another. I rode dumpy rides like Mighty Canadian Minebuster, The Boss, and Mind Eraser, but my opinion didn't change on those. These are the rides that really moved the needle in the wrong direction this year.

Rode Millennium this summer and while it wasn't slow for me, I definitely noticed quite a bit of rattling. It really surprised me honestly, never had that issue before but it felt like speeding over an unpaved road.

I love Skyrush, but I can’t deny something is up with that ride this year. The day you rode it this year I was also there. The pacing died on the second half and turned awesome positive g moments into filler track.

My only re-rides this year were Wicked Cyclone, Canobie's Untamed and Yankee Cannonball, and those were all running as well as always for me. I know Yankee Cannonball went down a lot of enthusiasts' lists after the retrack several years ago, but for me, the amazing smoothness of it makes up for any loss of force. I finally noticed the pop of air that a lot of reviews say you get on Untamed's first drop. Last year I re-rode Boulder Dash after a gap of about a decade and was disappointed by the increased jackhammering, which made it hard to enjoy. I haven't ridden it since the Titan Track work.

Very interesting. I think you visited Cedar Point on a bad day this year. It’s my home park and I rode Millennium Force and Gemini many times. I only remember Millennium Force running slow for me once and haven’t felt it vibrate or rattle in years, and I rode in every train. Besides the one ride it was as good as it gets. As for Gemini, which side did you ride on? I never ride on the blue side as I find it much rougher than the red side. The red side is about as smooth as an old Arrow will get.

This year I rode Gemini for the first time, and while it isn’t “smooth”, it wasn’t as bad as say Magnum, but definitely had some bite. I was surprised by the drop’s force as I thought it was less than 100ft, it genuinely offered some decent floater on each of those drops. I considered putting it higher than Magnum, but felt that that would be wrong.

The last time I rode Millie was in 2022 and it was the best ride I ever had on it. It hit hard in the back and the speed + forces did something Millie had never done before which was hit my arms so hard that I got my buddy in the head during an overbank with the forces (My bad Jon). I wonder what changed in one year because I've heard the same thing you told us from people who went. I wonder if they need more staffing, maybe new wheels? Either way, I hope they return this jewel back to 2022 glory. Same trip, Gemini was losing its touch. It felt 5 miles slower, but I still love it because it's a station wait and dang it, I love how that station looks. Definitely agree Millenium is starting to age. 2023 was the first time I've ridden it in about a decade. Definitely noticed the shake but still thought it was a good ride. Can't say I agree with you on Gemini though. Only roughness is the same roughness that's always been there on the final helix. This year we got our 10 year old on some coasters. After getting him on Raptor and Magnum he thought Gemini was kinda boring. I am glad though found some redeeming qualities in Corkscrew this year!

Running slow is a weird quirk Millennium has always had. I worked at Cedar Point in 2001 and 2002, and there were some days that it just never seemed to warm up. It also didn’t necessarily seem to be weather related.

I’m shocked you didn’t like Screamin Eagle. I went back in 2019, and it ran like a champ. I mean, there are so rough patches in the back portion of the layout, however that airtime is no joke. I may need some rerides, but it’s currently my favorite PTC coaster. Skyrush needs new trains. The winged trains are unique, however Velocicoaster style trains would be perfect if it didn’t require much retrofitting. Plus, I think it may minimize the confusing loading process to some extent. I’d love to see Stormrunner get Velocicoaster trains too, however it would probably spell the end of its hydraulic launch, which I’m willing to leave the soft over the shoulder restraints for as long as it’ll run with a hydraulic launch. Be nice if they could put GCI’s Millenium Flyers on comet, since their Infinity flyers have been a work in progress on Zambezi Zinger.

This year during Hallowekends at cedar point I got a ride on millennium force with wind and rain and it redeemed itself but during the regular season it was running slow

Some coasters that dropped in my rankings (115 coasters that I previously rode I rode again in 2023) Twisted Cyclone (SFOG)- Got more morning rides and that isn't a good thing. Goliath passed it up as the best at SFOG. Diamondback- The rattle is brutal. This fell like a rock due to that rattle. Manta (Sea World Orlando)- I just didn't enjoy it as much as I have in the past. TMNT ShellRiasrer- Felt way rougher this time. Dropped a lot like Diamondback. Sandy's Blasting Bronco- It gave me a headache combined with ShellRaiser. Banshee- This is my version of your Mindbender or Millennium Force- Rattle gets worse and worse each year. Nearing the bottom of my B&M invert rankings Comet (Hershey Park)- was never a big fan like you but it dropped a little for me as well. Mystery Mine (Dollywood)- Seems to get rougher and rougher each year. Nighthawk (Carowinds)- It used to not bother me but now those corkscrews are just brutal. Hurler (Carowinds)- I use to tolerate it. I now think it 100% trash. El Toro, & Phoenix each dropped a little bit but neither too extreme. El Toro ran a little rough. Phoenix wasn't quite as good as I remembered.

As a local whose home park is Hersheypark, I can 100% agree about Skyrush and Comet. I have never been a big Thigh-Crush fan and Comet seems to lose its bite a little bit every year. But having been to Cedar Point in 2022, I am still a sucker for Millennium Force. It’s still my number two behind Steel Vengeance. Maybe some of it is the nostalgia of it having been my first giga when I was a teenager, but that one we are going to have to agree to disagree on 😂

I only had three rides that went down my list this year. Millennium Force this year kinda confirmed that it’s my least favorite giga and went down to my top 25 instead of 15. Lightning Rod Still in my top ten but I can’t justify it in my top five. And finally Goliath at great America. I got the most forceless ride I’ve ever gotten on an RMC and had to drop it from stop 15 to top 30.

I agree on all 3, especially millennium force, my most overrated coaster by a mile. It's boring, has no airtime, and it doesn't belong anywhere near the top of any coaster rankings despite the golden ticket steel rankings.

Was at CP and Darien Lake this summer. Didn’t find either Millennium Force or Ride of Steel to be rough. And I rode Millie 6 or 7 times. Gemini was getting rough so that checks out. Also Predator was kinda dull.

I agree with you on MindBender at SFOG, I didn't ride it in 2023 but it dropped like a rock for me in 2022. Pothole was really bad. Surprised Gemini was on your bad list. Just keeps getting better and better for me. Twisted Cyclone dropped a little bit for me. SkyRush improved for me. I can give you tips on riding it but it sounds like it may get new restraints soon.

I never felt any airtime on Millie. Granted I'm pretty heavy and have to be stapled to fit, but it's pretty much speed, over banked turns and a great view.

Screamin' Eagle at SFSL this year was the roughest coaster I have EVER been on. It's my home park. I worked there 5 years. The boss or ninja is our rough coaster. And it made those feel like RMC's. The first time I was actually scared to get back on a coaster for my own safety. It didn't just feel rough it felt like it was unsafe. Like the track was actually damaged. I couldn't believe it. Didn't think a coaster could be so rough and not derail. I was shocked. Crazy experience.

Mindbender went from my favorite coaster in the park to one of my least favorites after the refurb. I don't think I've ever been more disappointed on a coaster than when I rode it after it was changed.

I rode Mindbender 10 times in a row during CoasterFest and each time that pothole during the helix shook me up. The trim before the final loop is a total crapshoot. Even during my marathon it either completely stopped, slowed to an almost stop, or just shot on through. It is weird.

Could be the train needing work, sometimes its weather, weight on the train, time of day, but this was a hot crowded day in the middle of the afternoon so no excuse

Something odd was going on for me or you at Cedar Point. I went July 15-19, and Millennium Force and Gemini were running the best they ever have for me. Gemini was super smooth & had great airtime. It was such a saving grace at a park where everything else was always over an hour (including Corkscrew & Magnum), and while Magnum rode quite brutal, Gemini rode great.

I was so surprised by Millie this year there was definitely a rattle when riding in the back. First I’d ever experienced that. On another note valravn had some great floater at night in the second half. I absolutely was blown away by it. Rocketed up my list

I actually enjoyed front right wing on Skyrush this year. I have never been super happy with it, but I do feel the front is worth the extra wait especially right wing. Felt like I was falling off the ride the whole time. Of course it was a super warm August day, and we hit this mid afternoon, so that probably helped. I agree Gemini definitely had some potholes this year. Hope they smooth it out for next year.

For me it’s been Great Bear and Orion, I used to love Great Bear and I called it the most underrated coaster of all time, it’s still a good ride but it got way rougher and I got a few head bangs which I didn’t get before. Orion I only really loved it the first time I rode it, after that it’s only gotten worse for me, after the first drop there’s only a few note worthy moments, everything else is boring. I did get one night ride on Orion and it was great as all night rides at Kings Island are, but it wasn’t enough to move it back up in my rankings.

I went to Disney World this last summer and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster sure felt like it was running on square wheels the day I rode it. It beat me to a frickin' pulp. It was that rough. I also got a pretty odd ride on Incredicoaster last month. I got a really good ride on it but the soundtrack wasn't running on the train I was in. I must have caught that train at an awkward time.

I was rather shocked to see The Screamin' Eagle on here, and I would in no way consider it a rough ride. It's a bit bumpy in the back row, I'll give you that, but on a non-wheel seat, the ride is great, especially for it's age. I found Zambezi Zinger and Prowler rougher. Also the setting provides an amazing night ride. But maybe I'm wrong. Boss is my most ridden coaster, so maybe I'm just oblivious to it. I personally thought that It tracked pretty well this season, and that drop after the turn around, and the drop after that deliver some actual ejector when the trains are running fast enough. Just thought I'd throw this out there because The Screamin' Eagle doesn't get enough love from outside the area, and I really do think It holds up amazingly well against other wooden coasters, especially from the same time period. It's an Enduring Classic if you ask me.

I got a front row night ride in October, and it was running way smother than when I rode it in 2022. I think because the train was more full and that helped Tons of airtime, classic coaster with great setting

For me, Maverick saw a tumble, as it didn't seem nearly as strong as before. Maybe it ran poorly because it only operated for about 3 hours out of my 5 days. Ravine Flyer II also dropped a lot, because it was running so much rougher, and the airtime wasn't as strong as my 2020 visit. Shivering Timbers saw my biggest drop. Although the airtime was still quite good, the brutality of the jackhammering was unbearable. It became one of my roughest coasters ever, and for this year alone, Wolverine Wildcat was better, by a huge margin. Renegade shot down my list a little, because of how rough it's gotten. On a side note, just today, Thunderhead shot back up my list. It's riding so great!

I also loved Skyrush. I didn’t even notice the restraints. I like restraints that rest on my thighs because I’m a transplant patient and anything that is tight closer to my stomach and lower torso can be so painful. Rip Ride Rocket was so tight on my stomach and pushed against my transplant incision and hurt so bad I had tears in my eyes

My biggest drop was either; 1. Storm Runner - Used to be in my top 3 or 5 ... I adored that thing. But this year it felt so ... meh. I can't even explain why.. and it dropped a bunch of spots. 2. Rip Ride Rocket - Rode it back in January, and while I hadn't ridden it since 2015, MAN those seats were so painful on my lower area .. maybe it's just me but it ruined the whole experience and fell so many spots from where I would've put it in 2015.

I rode Superman Ride of Steel at Six Flags America this year and it does have a rattle, but not enough to ruin the ride. There’s ejector on some of the hills, including the finale.

There are rumours that Thunder Run at Canada's Wonderland is getting new theme elements as a part of the overhaul to the mountain is receiving for the new volcano coaster. It is possible that Wonder Mountain Guardian is also expecting a small refresh and they are just making do with what they have until new equipment is installed.

I love your channel! But as someone who has Darien lake as a home park I completely disagree, predator is fast paced with ejector airtime, same with ride of steel which I put over mako, it might be home park bias just a little bit but I guess everyone has there opinions

I rode both for the first time in July of this year. Millennium Force was good, but not a ride I would hype up. The rattle was noticeable. Gemini hurt. Magnum hurt, too.

I absolutely adore Screamin' Eagle and always sit in the second to back row and while it definitely isn't smooth, it doesn't beat the crap out of you either. It has so much good floater airtime and a couple crazy ejector moments too. I will agree on Thunderation though, that thing is way too rough and janky, I prefer River King

I found that the blue train on Millie this year had a bad rattle. Red train was my personal go to. Also, Thunderation was abysmal on my visit. It runs too fast for as poorly as that track it bent.

Big Caveat: This was the first time I was ever on MF, but I didn't find it slow at all. Also: Ah... Blue Streak at CLP. Got there in 2019 and... That may be the roughest coaster I've ever been on. I know people feel bad about any coasters being destroyed, but... I think it may be for the best.

Gemini has been hit or miss for us. I can remember maybe one time we raced, the rest it's been down for maintenance or one side has been operating only. Been like that towards the end of last year as well. You really notice how slow the turns are when your not racing. Considering how much it was down, or only running one side this year, I have a feeling it's time is coming to an end and they don't want to invest in fixing the issue. Just dealing with it in its last years until they are ready to replace

Screamin' Eagle was by far the roughest coaster I've ever Ridden surpassing Wildcat at Lake Compounce. It's not so much a Jackhammer, but it slammed my back into the seat back so hard, rapidly, and often, It knocked the wind out of me. After getting off, my lungs felt bruised for a whole day. It hurt to breathe. Definitely the worst coaster I've ever Ridden. I cannot understand why this ride has fans. Also, Millie was running with a rattle this year, but it actually had some airtime on the floater hills, unlike 2020. I had so much fun riding it this summer. Shot up my rankings. Edit: I rode Screamin Eagle in the very back, which probably contributed to the roughness.

I've always thought that Skyrush was overrated, always loved the first drop in the back, and then the rest of the course was kinda meh. I remember loving Comet's first drop but you're right about the back half. I only rode Millennium Force and Gemini once each almost 20 years ago, but I remember being disappointed with Gemini cuz I expected to love it more. Gotta get back to Cedar Point!

Even though Millennium Force is my favorite I do agree with him it did run slow for one season and this year I was waiting for the front I was almost on but all of the sudden the lift cable came crashing down causing the ride to be close all day bummer Orion is better rode it like 20 times in the front the middle and the back by far the best B&M Giga for my first B&M Giga I gotta say Kings Island is a better park for having less rides than Cedar Point but Cedar Point is opening Top Thrill 2 all they did was added different launch and the 420 foot vertical spike and kept the top hat of the original dragster but I’ll obviously gonna ride it to see how different it is from the original

for me, mr freeze reverse blast shoots down every single time I ride it. wicked at lagoon on the other hand always shoots up when i ride it.

Recommend riding in the front of the car instead of the back. Not the train the car. I found that those were much smoother and didn’t even notice rattle until I did the very back

Screamin Eagle is hit or miss with the roughness. Thought it was gonna give me a heart attack once. Then later it wasn't bad at all...

Can't say anything shot down my rankings this year. Screamin' Eagle could have, but I blame myself for riding on the wheel seat. I rode it on an odd-numbered seat last year, and it was really fun. My friend also rode on the non-wheel seat and said it was great, so I decided not to move it. Closest I've got is SteVe slowly getting pushed further and further down my list, nowhere near my top 50 now.

Screamin Eagle in a wheel vs non wheel seat is a pretty drastic difference in roughness IMO. Non wheel are much smoother.
