it does for me. It's how people take it. I need a good career to get my family in shape financially and that makes me happy knowing that we won't ration for food anymore. Happiness is constantly changing until a certain point and it depends on the person. It is subjective. Take it from me, I am quite unhappy that I can't get a good laptop for college which is starting 2 weeks from now rather than sulking sad about it, I kind of just think of the future and the things I will do with the money I get hopefully and that really keeps me motivated. Happiness is like your progress, satisfaction is the peak. Be grateful is the word.

Olivia McNeil No, I went through the Texas education system. I was basically passed on through each grade. Basically, no teacher would teach me then after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder I was put in the special needs class ( which I didn't need to be in I just needed fucking help with math.). Basically, I got to skip taking standardized testing and graduated High School by doing an essay. Then, I went to cosmotology school actually did very well. But, ultimately let my licence expire, cause I switched career path and became an illustrator. Not saying i'm the worst at match I can do the basics, but all that other shit I can look at it and still go " Why is there letter's in here?". I'm 30 now. I basically do work that involves design or illustration since it's work I can do from home. I'm just saying all the jobs listed were all out of my reach due to lack of teachers giving a shit and me being passed up by each one, cause they didn't want to teach me and wanted to get rid of me. There you go a brief history of my experience in the Texas school system. It's still horrible.

Snow Anaya. I have somewhat the same problem, exept I was force to move to mexico at age twelve, their education system is awful, had a hard time in two subjects. Particularly math. My family were strict and demanding led me to cut myself, after six years I finally moved back to the United States, I still had problems with math yet manage to pass my GED, I'm also going to study for cosmetology.

+TheRapper10000 I'm completely aware of these bullshit degrees. I refuse to concede that these students are somehow able to graduate college/university if they can't even research different kinds of colleges/universities and majors before making a decision that would affect their employability with the job market and economy. Also, yes, feminazis are completely evil who make shit up by falsely claiming of "fighting for equality" when they only want nothing but female superiority over males that would give females the abusing power to ruin males' lives easily such as falsely accusing them of sexual harassment. Thanks to this, society has now unfortunately created sexist double standards.

I know that I'll be able to make money by writing for companies, but I'll probably have little money if I try to be freelance like I always wanted to.

lika It’s been a couple of years since I took my SAT but you should look up how you’re gonna take it on the area you’re moving to. Also contact the university you’re planning on going to in the US so you don’t lose all of your credits since a semester of American collage can cost like $30K but if you wait like a year you will become a resident of the state and the cost will go down a little bit. Idk how collage is like in your country but American collage is very expensive compared to other countries.

To those of you who are bummed there aren't any humanities, social sciences, or art majors on the list, here's some info to help you out: ART Use your art skills to help companies market themselves. Some useful skills to supplement your fine art skills is to learn basic front-end programming and basic digital art skills. Web design is also a good subfield to pursue as web designers are more creative than web developers. Indie games are gaining a lot of popularity nowadays. A lot of indie gaming companies need artsy people as well as technical people. The art can be one of the biggest selling points of a game, so great artists are needed. Some advice: try to design environments and maps instead of characters. Many companies see portfolios full of characters, but not too many people show off any environment/world designs. HUMANITIES It can be pretty boring, but it pays pretty well. Typically, a technical writer creates content in either the computer field or the medical field. You pretty much write manuals and how-to-guides to help users understand the product. You don't need to have tech skills to be a technical writer, you just need to understand technology and how to communicate well. This one may go under art instead, but I'm thinking about journalism majors. Many news companies have a lot of writers, but are short on video/audio staff. Because social media has become so popular, journalists with experience editing audio and video are sought out more. SOCIAL SCIENCES Knowing another language makes you more marketable. If you are in a social science program, it would be wise to pick up a second language. For psychology majors, sign language is a good option. For history majors, chose a language of a culture you are interested in. If you are interested in human services, social work is a good starting point. The degree requires you to have on-site training/internships before you are awarded your degree. A BSW is good to get your foot in the door, but an MSW makes you more marketable. For those of you in BA/BS programs in psychology, or sociology, you can pursue an MSW after graduation as holding a BSW is not a requirement for MSW programs. This is a good option if you are not interested in a PhD program. Hope this helps! :)

Second Language...In the US the best bet is Spanish, then Arabic, and maybe Chinese. I know the Arabic and Chinese language are the hardest courses but if you want to be successful you have to apply yourself and work hard. Don't waste money on languages like Dutch, French, or German. Most of those people speakl English fluently anyway.

You just got to network. Communications is a gateway, it's not a guarantee. Get an internship, volunteer in an area you're interested in, find out what you like and then figure out a way to apply what you've learned in Comm. to the things that you want to do. If you need more schooling in a focused area, whether it's graphic design, coding, or organizational behavior, find ways to do it. Keep your chin up and be persistent, and you'll be fine! You can do it!

As a communications major, it's a worthless degree but it helps for a future WalMart job. Yes, I have known many communications majors now working in retail, not as managers but as clerks. That's about what it is good for, unless you are lucky and know the right people. Luckily, I did know the right people and got a worthwhile minor (marketing) and I speak Spanish, otherwise I would be at Walmart like many communications majors.

@@jaylajohnson6882 no bachelor degree will give a starting pay of $90,000. However, I would rather join an apprenticeship for 5 years instead of going to 5 years of schooling since an apprenticeship will allow you to gain work experience and you gain better wages within those 5 years. Meanwhile, going to university for 4-6 years will cost you lots of money. ( the average student loan debt after graduation is $35,000) even if you manage to graduate with a degree, you will need to find a job within that field which can be very difficult and let me tell you, no degree will guarantee a job. With that said, please consider doing your research on this topic.

A major in a Foreign Language is super valuable, any sort of international company needs translators/interpreters in order to do business. Publishers also need people to translate books/papers/etc. into other languages or to proof read what others have translated. With a major in a foreign language you could also be a teacher either in your current country or in a country that's native language is the one you studied. You could also work at universities, either as a professor or as someone who works with international students.

One major I'm considering when I do go to college is architecture, and to my knowledge the math required isn't extremely difficult unless I heard wrong.

Good career is all relative. A good career is what you make of it. Major in something that's wise financially, but doesn't want to make you slit your wrists every night and minor in what you love. Just don't be like me and study psychology. I wished to initially pursue a PhD, but now that I've graduated last week, I just don't see it worth the debt. Now, I see myself going to grad school for human resources.

I'm a pre-nursing student. I don't give two shits about money. My purpose is to heal the people, and actually make them feel safe and comfortable in the hospital. I want to go above and beyond, giving the best care possible. I'm so compassionate, not to mention, I LOOOVEEE science and medicine. We need REAL caring people, not just people in it for the money. If there are sick children, I want to bring little stuffed animals to give them for being awesome for getting through having to get a shot. It's gonna be more than just a job- it will be my passion and life. Nursing is NOT for everyone. You can kiss your 9-5 life goodbye. So if you're in it for all the wrong reasons, do everyone a favor and stop. It seems like many people take nursing, but only few really have what it takes.

Yesit'sJess my sentiment as well and you are right. Medical field is NOT for everyone expecially nursing as they are often the first person of contact for a patient and definitely constant through their stay. It saddens me when I here people talk about money or prestige when choosing a career in Health, it shouldn't matter, you are dealing with people's lives in your hands, being generously paid is just a bonus. A doctor that will not prescribed medication but try to delve in why you are in this situation, listen to you, empathize, advice, encourage, invest personal time in you, this has no prize. I place medics and teachers in the same bracket as they are thrusted with lives!

I completely agree! So many people say they want to be a nurse but have NO IDEA what being a nurse really means. I thought I wanted to be a nurse right after I graduated high school so I tried to get my foot in the door by getting some experience working with nurses & getting my CNA. I loved the medical side but I did not like the emotional scene. You have to be ok with patients crying and wanting to know if you care and their families wanting to know you care as well. You're dealing with 20+ patients a day. You definitely HAVE to be a caring person to be good at that job. I know I wouldn't want a nurse who doesn't care about my medical conditions taking care of me so I didn't want to be that nurse, especially on a bad day. Being a nurse goes beyond a stable career and a nice paycheck. I HIGHLY recommend anyone considering a nursing major become a CNA first or during their freshman year. It DEFINITELY helps when you graduate because employers will see that you have healthcare experience and that you are familiar with working with nurses as opposed to you working random jobs to get by during your college years. That will make them feel confident in hiring you.

I grew up being an art enthusiast and the other side of myself was all about science. When i was a child i was very creative with my hands. I would be that kid that liked making ramps out of random items in my home for my hotwheel cars and id make huge forts in my home. I loved looking up diy science videos on youtube when it first came out and coming up with new ideas to create things i liked. When i was in elementary school i had a field trip to a nasa headquarters and immediately became interested in them and astronomy. But in school i wasnt excelling in mathematics. I failed all of them all the way up to highschool. So i decided to stay with art and persue a career in illustration or animation because i didnt have enough confidence to take up a stem major in college. But after highschool i couldnt help but feel like i was being call on to mathematics. Like i needed to learn it. I needed to learn the language of the universe. I felt like this is what i had to persue all along. And the fact that ive always questioned our universe and love creating stuff with my hands i was drawn to mech. Engineering. I gave myself a chance and decided to major in it. So far its my official first year in college and ive been passing all my math classes and discovered how beautiful and amazing math is. Its explains our universe in the most amazing way possible and the more i learn it and get better at it the cooler it gets. I know i may sound like a geek to some ignorant peoole but if it wasnt for mathematics idk where we'd be in the world today.

What is a “good career”?? Is there even an objective answer?? Self- satisfaction comes with how much you love your job. Teachers don’t have good careers? What about authors, actors, dancers, scientists, historians, etc, etc. So many career paths are good, it just depends on how much effort the person puts to advance his career and how much he loves and cares about it.

This is a good process for helping determine your college major. Begin by using the process of elimination. Look at a list of the majors. Mark off the majors you know 100% that you do not want to major in. Afterwards, you will have a much shorter list of options. When I did this, I only had one left and that is what I majored in.

If you're looking to go right into recruiting, it's much easier to break into it by working at a staffing agency as a recruiter. It's a serious hustle, but you can make good money. If you'd like to take another route, you can apply to be a recruiting coordinator. Based on your experience, I think you'd have no problem getting hired as an RC somewhere. Hope this helps :)

Software engineering / computer science majors have an enormous early-career advantage because it's easy to improve your programming skill via independent practice, and it's easy to prove your skill by writing some code. While the software industry is not a pure meritocracy (nothing is), the engineers with high potential are easy to recognize and they tend to reach their potential very early.

Let me guess, no humanities degrees? Contrary to what you hear, a lot of companies now are hiring people who studied Classics, Literature, and Social Sciences, just to name a few. The so-called "soft skills" you learn in those disciplines are really in demand right now, employers want people who can analyze things and think creatively, and it's a shame people don't hear about that more.
@Seth4All
@Seth4All 6 жыл бұрын
Whether or not humanities majors can actually analyze in a meaningful way for the business world is beyond me to say, but as someone who interviews and hires people, I'd much rather have analysis come from a business major, accountant, economist, mathematician, statistician, science major, etc. rather than a history major or sociology major.
@Meow-meow-Ima-kitty

That's a valid point, but what I'm saying is that companies today want their employees to have a diverse range of skills and points of view, so they look for people who have backgrounds that aren't necessarily what you'd expect someone in the business world to have. For example, a lot of tech companies hire Art and English majors, because even though they need people who understand computers and such, they also understand that that is only one aspect of what they do - albeit the most important one - and that they need workers who are creative, and understand how to appeal to people outside the tech world.

But also as someone with that job, aren't there more factors to it than what you majored in? like resumes, internships, letters of recommendation, academic history etc. I think that factors like those should be taken in consideration besides majors as you can have a person that had a 4.0, great letters of rec, really good internships etc and be a history major then have a 3.3 GPA student with no internships who was a business major. Would you really hire that person just because they were a business major as opposed to the highly qualified person who was a history major? IMO I don't think the major really matters (unless they are very far off) just as long as that person is committed and motivated to do the job.

These majors are great, but they are just that: majors. They are tools that hopefully will help you get well-paying jobs and job satisfaction. What this video failed to mention is that majors a sliver of the equation. Even if you have a highly sought after major, if you don’t use the knowledge you gained to get experience, you’ve just got a piece of paper. I can speak from experience of being in my field for over a decade. What I do at my job (web development), I have zero formal education for. My major was in journalism. But I had the passion and interest in the web to explore development on my own. What’s better is for you to learn some soft skills and the ability to market yourself. I know of many friends who has majors but aren’t using them at all. So it really comes down to you: how much you’re willing to learn and presevere, how much you can use your experience to foresight the possibilities, and getting some actual experience in what you’re good at. If you’re passionate about something, it’ll serve you well to continue the fight when life gets hard.

I’m applying to be a communications major... I’m so looking forward to unemployment 😍
@RadioLaPrincess
@RadioLaPrincess 5 жыл бұрын
My undergrad is communications, minor in marketing and I wish I had just gotten a marketing degree. I've always gotten more jobs because of marketing. Communications is junk, most of my classmates ended up returning to school. As it turned out I went for a masters in communications and instructional design and get more jobs in instructional design and am almost done with a masters in addictions counseling. There are many jobs in addictions counseling but the majority don't pay well so not sure if I will stay or return to marketing or instructional design.

A few of these could've been listed under Communication 🤷🏾‍♂️ communication is looked at as the "lazy way out," but it has a ton of job opportunities and the good thing is jobs will always be available

@SpringAngel103
@SpringAngel103 3 жыл бұрын
@@esther3396 I wouldn't say that it has been easy to find a job because depending on where you live, there's not a whole lot of companies looking for Graphic Designers. You would have to look really hard to find jobs that would consider you with a handful of skills, mostly photoshop, illustrator, design ux etc. You might be able to find a good job where you can work from home due to Covid, or you can go the route I'm going for and start your own business and worrying about school later. I hope this helps ☺

I’m honestly thinking of just doing like finance or accounting cause I like math to a certain extent and I don’t rly like sciences in particular. Try picking a major that has your strengths and are somewhat interested in and see where you’ll go from there.

@@halogod5702 I'm a 4th year but I'm barely half way to graduating. I have been taking only my GE classes and have just finished them after this semester. So I will pick my major by the end of the semester and then will only have 2 more years left for my degree. I'm honestly was just going to do what you said. I feel you, I am on my 3rd year at uni, i study economics and I HATE IT! i don't wanna be an economist and I don't wanna pursue career in that field at all, when I was 18 I did not know what I wanted to do with my life and I just chose this major that everyone recommended and I got in one of the best universities in my country, I was really excited, but after few months I really hated every subject that I was studying. I wanted to change major but I was afraid that I would end up hating other major as well, next year, I may be moving to usa and I am thinking about going to college there, but I have no idea what I wanna study.
